Bolivar Road School “The Address for Success” March 2018 Principal’s Monthly Message I hope all our scholars and families enjoyed the winter break. As we settle into the third marking period, our scholars and educators are working diligently to accomplish all the goals that we set out to accomplish back in September. Many great projects and activities are happening throughout the building. Please remember to ask your child what they are learning about each day. Thank you to our PTA for funding so many of our PARP activities throughout the month of February, as well as to all our educators who made it a huge success. Our team worked diligently to transform our school into different habitats and truly created a culture where our scholars were “Wild About Reading.” During the month of March, we will focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and PAMP (Pick A Math Partner). Please plan on joining us on March 8 from 6-7:30 p.m. for STEM Night. Please take a few minutes to remind your child(ren) about the importance of washing their hands and covering their mouth when coughing during this increased illness season. If your child is sick, please refrain from sending them to school and call the main office to inform us each day your child is out. Our custodial team in the Chittenango School District is exceptional, and they have been working diligently to sanitize all the surfaces in the building nightly. Also, if you could be sure to send your child(ren) to school each day with a snack, we would greatly appreciate it. Ms. Burgess Bolivar B.E.A.R.S. The character trait for March and April is: COURAGE The character trait for all year is: CITIZENSHIP (Please go to the Bolivar Webpage to find out more information.) State Testing Schedule Mark your calendars! The following tests will be administered in April, May, and June: Grades 3-4 NYS ELA Tests — April 11 & 12 Grades 3-4 NYS Math Tests — May 1 & 2 Grade 4 NYS Science Tests — May 23 & 24 and June 4 Please encourage good attendance on these dates. It is important that your child is well rested, eats a good breakfast, and is on time. Thank you!

Dear Family & Friends of Bolivar Road, Believe it or not, but spring will soon be in the air along with lots of fun activities at the school. Coming up on March 8 we have the STEM Night where there are always fun activities to help support the science, technology, engineering, and math education in the school. April 5 is our spring Fitness Night. This is an interactive night for the whole family containing many stations throughout the school with fun activities to encourage physical fitness and healthy eating. If you know anyone with a fitness or nutrition speciality that might be willing to donate some time that evening, please e-mail us at bolivarpta@gmail.com. Or if you are willing to help hand out snacks or help coordinate activities that night, please e-mail us as well. At our February meeting we discussed a lot of great ideas for fundraisers to help raise money for the new playground. We will be working towards having a family photo shoot sometime this spring. Stay on the lookout for more information in the weeks to come! Lastly, there are a number of classrooms who have children that do not have snack provided from home. While the PTA has been helping out, many classrooms are still running low on snacks. If you are able to send in any extra allergen friendly snacks (i.e., peanut and tree nut free) to the office or send in money marked PTA snack fund, we could use your help keeping classrooms stocked with healthy snacks for those in need.
