the reiner news july august 2009 victorian reining horse association member newsletter website www.vrha.com.au email vrhasecretary@hotmail com outgoing president s message shane bettess dear members firstly i would like to thank each of the vrha committee and members who supported me and the club during my term as president over the past two years i would like to thank our valued sponsors and i would also like to acknowledge and thank those volunteers who gave up their time as gate marshals scribes tractor drivers bbq cooks raffle ticket sellers and the list goes on without your support the running of club events would not be possible it is recognised that the past two years has been a difficult time for the sport of reining the affiliation with nrha america ei rising fuel costs the economic down turn rising costs and limited availability of suitable venues and the tragic bushfires all certainly impacted on participants attending reining events in victoria nevertheless the club forged on and all in all was successful in further promoting reining and introducing new members to this sport which we love so much regardless of the difficulties experienced during this time club membership continued to grow and the committee were able to end the year in a strong financial position during my term as president i have gained a greater understanding of the politics in the sport but more importantly a better insight into what is involved in the everyday running of our club i would encourage each and every one of our members to take up the opportunity to commit themselves to a term on the committee i am certain that you will better understand and appreciate the work and the commitment that our committee make to the club i will be standing down from my position as president and i have absolute confidence that the newly elected president and committee will continue to nurture both the club and the sport into the future i look forward to the new and innovative ideas planned for the upcoming season and am confident that reining will continue to grow in victoria in closing i wish to remind everyone that our club and the sport is only as strong as its members so i encourage you all to renew your club membership and get behind the new committee by supporting each of the scheduled shows and clinics during the new season regards shane bettess ­ outgoing vrha president 2009 2010 committee president peter tjepkema 0418 321 289 vice president gary browne secretary wendy o sullivan 0419 139 066 treasurer kristy hobson general committee paul barratt 0418 534 544 katelyn barratt youth sandy dodds wally ruschin memberships at a recent committee meeting a review of the membership year 1st august to 31st july was discussed a decision was made to bring the annual vrha membership dates in line with reining australia nrha 1st january ­ 31st december the revised membership year will be effective immediately and for this 2009 2010 season vrha membership will consist of an additional five months membership for the period 1st august 2009 to 31st december 2010 there will be no increase in membership fees for the 2009 2010 season 2011 committee elections 2010 agm high point presentations will next be held late november early december 2010 2009 2010 membership invoices have been distributed to all members and a copy of the membership form is available to download from the website alternatively contact the secretary to obtain a copy please ensure your membership is current for insurance purposes.
