Welcome As the winter season approaches we are pleased to introduce the winter and spring recreation guide. We welcome you to participate in or visit the various programs occurring throughout the Town of Essex. The first, and usually the hardest step in leading a more active life is making the decision to get started. It is recommended that a person be active an hour each day. But you do not have to do those 60 minutes all at once. You can add up your activities, 10 minutes at a time to get to the daily total. A stroll through your neighbourhood or on our trails is a great healthy activity! On behalf of the department of Community Services, we wish all residents a healthy and safe winter and spring! All Camp Staff attend pre-camp training sessions, are certified in Standard First Aid, CPR, Automatic External Defibrillation, and HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development. Children should be dropped off at the Essex Recreation Complex gym lobby. In order to ensure maximum safety, sign-in sheets will be provided and it is important that parents or guardians ensure campers are signed in each day. The gym is a camper only zone; parents are to remain in the lobby. Children should be dropped off and picked up in the lobby area. Sign-out sheets will be provided and the Camp Coordinator must receive written consent from parents/guardians should a child need to be released into the care of an adult other than the parent/caregiver. Parents/guardians picking up children must present valid photo identification to the camp staff prior to a child being released into their care. Please ensure campers are signed out each day. Campers should bring the following with them every day: swimsuit and towel, water bottle, weather appropriate clothing and hat, sunscreen, running shoes, bagged lunch with two snacks and a drink. The sun doesn’t have to be shining to have a good time at camp! All Camp programs will continue during inclement weather. Please dress your child appropriately. Health and safety are the Town’s top priorities. Please ensure your child’s information is accurate by completing the medical information portion on your Camper Information Form, and include a small picture of your child. Medication must be prescribed by a physician, stored in original containers only and will be kept in a locked box. If your child develops a communicable disease during Camp (e.g. pink eye), we ask that you inform staff immediately. This will allow the Town to inform other participants and allow them to take the necessary precautions. Regular Camp day is from 8:30am – 5:00pm. Early drop-off and late pick-up are available at no extra charge. We will provide additional activities before camp between 7:00am-8:30am, and 5:00pm-6:00pm. Sign up at the front desk by 4:30pm on the day before the trip and fill out a permission form to ensure your child has a place on the bus. Trips but may be subject to change.
