the reiner news january/february 2010 victorian reining horse association member newsletter president s message peter tjepkema by the time this newsletter reaches our members most of you will have heard of the sad passing of fellow victorian reiner michelle halliwell michelle was a highly respected member of the vrha and a very popular competitor at the vrha shows and had made many friends not only within the reining industry but also with her numerous business dealings with her husband cameron who can forget michelle s great win at the 2009 reining australia national show becoming the limited non pro champion aboard her much loved palomino mare op finally dunit although her popularity and great nature was well known in the reining fraternity it was certainly proven by the number of people who attended her memorial service and the many testimonials given by her family and friends to cameron son billy and michelle s family i would like to express the sympathy of the vrha committee and members and offer them every possible support our 2009/10 show season has well and truly started and the vrha buckle series is proving to be a great drawcard for our members and a significant purse should be accumulated by the time this series comes to a close later this year after a successful show held at glenbrae wandin nth last october to give reiners from the western districts area of victoria an opportunity to compete in the series the vrha have arranged to run the three buckle series classes at the wdqha and bdqha aa show at geelong on saturday 20th february 2010 this is a chance for competitors to gain some extra points check the vrha website for details the next show on our calendar is the vrha derby state championship show 26th 27th february 2010 traditionally this is victoria s major annual reining show and also an opportunity for competitors to qualify for the continental affiliate championships at tamworth in august so far this season our show attendances have been a credit to our members and i am sure this will continue for our derby state championship show along with some interstate competitors making the trip to compete we have some good prize money on offer and a great trophy saddle to be won let us all work towards a very successful 2010 season see you at the show 2009 2010 committee president peter tjepkema 0418 321 289 vice president gary browne secretary/treasurer wendy o sullivan 0419 139 066 assistant treasurer kristy hobson general committee paul barratt 0418 534 544 sandy dods 0400 424 298 katelyn barratt youth memberships 2009 2010 membership forms are available to download from the website www.vrha.com.au alternatively contact the secretary to obtain a copy your membership will assist and support reining in victoria welcome to the following new vrha members julie quinn kay couch katie blair alan berry suzanne sims russell matthews rebecca quinn carla sorenson hayley crossingham deborah holderness peter tjepkema
