Dear Citizens, Thank you for reading the Winter/Spring 2018 edition of the Belvidere Township Park District’s Go Guide. We are excited about our third winter of operating the Riverside Ice Arena at Doty Park and encourage all residents to utilize this terrific facility that is in our own backyards. Once again we will have available public skating, skating lessons, hockey lessons and leagues, private rentals and the home ice of the Belvidere Fury Hockey Team. Additionally, we will be providing the programs and services that the community has come to count on over the years and you can find those in this brochure. We have opened up a new park site called Glenn Green Open Space and this is located at 8484 Distillery Road. This site provides 22 acres of restored native Illinois prairie land and over a mile of walking trails. The William Grady Pool continues to be a topic of discussion as we move forward to try and determine the right decisions in regards to aquatic recreation provided by the Park District. Currently on our website is a timeline that will keep the public up to date on the status of the process and any current decisions or scheduled meetings/public hearings. The Board of Commissioners has decided to investigate the possibility of replacing the main vessel filter this off-season and if the project moves forward we should be able to open the pool with little risk of immediate service disruption. Again we will communicate and inform the public on our website as things progress. I look forward to seeing all of you out in the parks this winter. Reforestation Program 1006 W. Lincoln Avenue Belvidere, IL 61008 Help Plant a Tree for Life! During the past three years, the Belvidere Township Park District has lost a significantly large number of trees to the Emerald Ash Borer, storms, and hot dry weather. In an effort to keep the parks green, the Belvidere Park District started a memorial tree program in 1999 which has successfully added over 100 trees to the parks. The district has allocated funds each year to planting new trees. Unfortunately, during the past two years we have had to use those funds to remove dead and dangerous trees from the parks instead of planting new ones. The Belvidere Township Park District is launching a new reforestation program to plant trees in our parks. The district will now be accepting donations of any amount to assist with our tree program. If you would like to contribute financially to planting new trees in Belvidere Parks, but can not afford to purchase a memorial tree, then you can give a donation of your liking such as $5.00, $20.00, or $100.00. Your donation will be placed into a tree fund along with other donations and will be used to buy as many trees as possible for planting in the parks most in need of new trees. The donors will be recognized in the Go Guide and thanked for their donations. Reforestation Program To contribute to this fund, stop by the Belvidere Township Park District Administration Office at 1006 West Lincoln Avenue or the Rivers Edge Recreation Center, 1151 West Locust Street, to fill out a tree donation form. You can also print the tree donation form from our website and mail it along with your donation to the Belvidere Township Park District, 1006 West Lincoln Avenue, Belvidere, Illinois 61008.
