OVERVIEW OF THE RUSSIAN CHEMICAL INDUSTRY The chemical industry supplies many other industries with technology, materials and consumer goods. It has a great impact on construction, machinery manufacturing, textile industry, agriculture, pharmacy, science and education, and influences the development of the national economy to a large extent. The chemical sector occupies 6.9% of Russia’s manufacturing industry and refers to a basic sector of the heavy industry. The chemical industry produces acids, alkali, fertilizers, polymers, colorants, household chemicals, paints and coatings, rubber-asbestos, photochemical, chemical and pharmaceutical, and other products.
