OVERVIEW OF THE RUSSIAN INDUSTRY OF GOODS FOR CHILDREN The industry of goods for children comprises the sector connected with manufacture and sale of children and maternity goods as well as with 15 related sectors of economy such as textile, leather, woodworking, food, etc. Over6,500companiesoperateintheRussianindustryofgoodsforchildrenamongthem1,245manufacturers located in 75 regions of Russia. The industry employs more than 300,000 people. The global market of goods for children amounts to $430 billion; the Russian market is $11.2 billion. The largest segment of the market of goods for children is clothing which occupies 32% of the market. The Russian market of children’s clothing accounts for over $3.5 billion. Children’s footwear amounts to 10% of the total childrenswear market. The market review shows that the share of Russian-made goods for children is about 20%. Depending on the commodity group, Russian-made products occupy from 9 to 39% of the market (footwear, about 10%; clothing, about 15–17%; games and toys, about 20%; baby food, about 37–38%, etc.).

TRADE SHOWS OF GOODS FOR CHILDREN Today, the Mir Detstva (World of Childhood) International Exhibition for Goods and Services for Children and Teenagers, New Educational and Personality Development Programmes is an absolute leader among Russian trade shows of children goods and services. Mir Detstva is an effective platform to provide the Russian market with quality children goods, promote new educational programmes, and support families, maternity and childhood. Mir Detstva is supported by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade providing an opportunity to have an active dialogue with experts, industry professionals and government officials when discussing some aspects of the children’s industry. The Mir Detstva international trade show is a key event in the industry of goods for children. According to the Russian National Exhibition Rating, Mir Detstva was recognized Russia’s best 2015–2016 trade show in the category ‘Goods for Children’. For over two decades the Mir Detstva international trade show has been a milestone for Russian and international companies in the industry of goods and services for children. The show was first held in 1994. More than 500 companies from 28 countries annually participate in the trade show. In 2007 the specialized salon of children clothing, footwear and accessories, which had successfully developed over the past years within the Mir Detstva exhibition, became a stand-alone trade show CJF – Child and Junior Fashion. CJF – Child and Junior Fashion. Maternity Wear is an effective networking tool for professionals in the child fashion industry worldwide. The trade show strengthens existing relations with partners and promotes signing of product delivery contracts. The market research testifies to buyers’ keen interest in the development of a trade show of child and junior clothing and maternity wear. The show runs biannually: in February and September in compliance with the time of wholesale purchases in this market segment. Over 300 companies from 21 countries showcase their products. Every year over 30,000 industry experts attend the trade shows of goods for children held at Expocentre Fairgrounds. The CJF Children’s Catwalk project, carried out at the trade show, enables companies to demonstrate their collections of children’s clothes and accessories thus increasing the number of orders and making participation in the trade show more effective.
