st teresa s rc primary school newsletter october 2011 the newsletter is also available to view on the school website www.stteresasprimary.org.uk attendance last year rose to 93.5 though this improvement is very pleasing93.5 is still below both local and national average for attendance and below the government s expected target of 95 please remember that school advises against any holidays in term time applications must be made in advance and will only be granted in special circumstances which includes the pupil having at least 95 attendance unauthorised absences which include non approved holidays may lead to a £50 fine if this reaches 10 days a year lack of attendance damages the chances of pupils reaching their potential we have recently spent a lot of money on the purchase of new reading books which your child may bring home please help your child to look after their books and reading records and encourage them to read on a regular basis sats week 2012 please note that sats week for year 6 is 14th 22nd may it is crucial that the children are in school during this week no holiday requests please as no holidays will be authorised a yr6 sats information evening is to be held on 2nd november at 6pm in the school hall yr 6 transition days are 28th and29th june 2012 advance notice open evening monday 14th november 2-6pm further details to follow on thursday 20th october at 9.30am in church classes 7 8 9 will be celebrating mass this mass will be led by class 9 on the theme of homes and families our current re topic parents carers and parishioners are most welcome to attend a year 2 sats information session is to be held on school on wednesday 19th october at 3.30pm change to school meals in future during week 3 thursday and friday meal options will be swapped salmon fish cakes will be served on friday and chicken pie on thursday every school day counts out of the 365 days in a year schools are open to pupils for 190 days that leaves 175 days when pupils are not in school 175 days for holidays appointments shopping etc the target set for attendance is 95 190 days in school 100 attendance 180 days in school 10 days lost 95 attendance every school day counts fancy dress disco thursday 20th october nursery classes 1-4 4.30-5.30pm classes 5-9 5.45-6.45pm due to health and safety considerations please note that the disco is only open to pupils of st teresa s school and nursery.

dinner money can we remind parents that dinner money must be paid on monday mornings in an envelope clearly marked with your child s name you may be entitled to claim free school meals for your child please see the office for further information if you are in receipt of child tax credit not working tax credit income based job seekers allowance income support etc the new autumn/winter menu will be sent home shortly and children in classes 2-9 can choose to have a packed lunch or school meal each day please note if opting for this choice school must be informed on a monday morning which days a school meal is to be taken if you wish to pay per month or term please write this on the envelope punctuality it is very important that children are in school on time each day all children must be in the yard by 8.50am ready for the bell at 8.55am punctuality is important so that lessons can begin without interruption doors are closed once all the children are in from the yard thereafter children should come into school via the main entrance attendance and punctuality is monitored closely by the education welfare officers recycling uk thanks to your support 333.6kg was collected for recycling raising £185.13 towards the cost of the shade shelter jewellery recycling thank you for the 34 bags that were collected we will have a total balance by the end of the month run a mile many thanks for supporting this sponsored run to date we have raised £1239.63 towards the cost of a shade shelter please bring any remaining sponsor money to school by friday 14th october school bank ran on behalf of darlington credit union a savings club operates every monday morning parents and children are very welcome to join you can save as little or as much as you wish withdrawals require 1 week s notice application forms are available from reception wear what you want friday 21st october we are offering children the chance to wear what they want for the day £1.00 per child juice and biscuits will be on sale at break time for 25p all money raised will be given to cafod our school prayer this is our school may we all live here happily together may our school be full of joy may love dwell here among us everyday we are still recycling school will receive 2p for every used pen felt tip and marker that we can collect no matter what the condition broken and un-used mobile phones empty original printer or toner cartridges please note we cannot accept brother or epson love of one another love of all people everywhere love of life itself and love of god let us all remember that as many hands build a house so every child can make this school a lovely place amen school breaks up on friday 21st october and the children return to school on tuesday 1st november.
