District Update Dear Citizens, Thank you for reading the Fall 2017 edition of the Belvidere Township Park District’s Go Guide. It is my honor to be writing my first public address in my new position as the Executive Director. I have enjoyed the past 9 plus years serving the community as the Superintendent of Parks and the Superintendent of Operations and am very much looking forward to many years to come of continued service at my new post. I want to thank the Board of Commissioners for their support and confidence in my abilities to execute the duties of the position and I very much want to thank Dan Roddewig for his many years of mentoring, leadership and friendship and I wish him many days ahead of catching his limits. There are many things to look forward to as citizens of Belvidere and users of the Park District as we continue to grow and try to meet all of the needs of the community. There are many new faces and many familiar faces on staff that will be collectively working to exceed the standards that all of you are expecting. One item that I want to draw particular attention to is the William Grady Pool. We have begun an evaluation process of the current conditions of the facility and the possible long term decisions that we are facing based on the needs of the community. We are always open to public input and we will be having a few public hearings at our Board Meetings to provide information and to receive feedback. Whatever course is decided on will provide its own challenges and opportunities for continued services. I want to encourage anyone that would like to have a voice on the future of aquatic recreation in Belvidere Township Park District to attend one of these meetings or contact District staff. I look forward to seeing all of you out in the parks this fall. Reforestation Program During the past three years the Belvidere Township Park District has lost a significantly large number of trees to the Emerald Ash Borer, storms, and hot dry weather. In an effort to keep the parks green, the Belvidere Park District started a memorial tree program in 1999 which has been very successful by adding over 100 trees to the parks. The district has allocated funds each year to planting new trees; unfortunately, during the past two years we have had to use those funds to remove dead and dangerous trees from the parks instead of planting new ones. The Belvidere Township Park District is launching a new reforestation program to plant trees in our parks. The district will now be accepting donations of any amount to assist with our tree program. If you would like to contribute financially to planting new trees in Belvidere Parks but do not want to, or can not afford to purchase a memorial tree, then you can give a donation of your liking such as $5.00, $20.00 or $100.00. Your donation will be placed into a tree fund along with other donations and will be used to buy as many trees as possible for planting in parks most in need of new trees. The donors will be recognized in the Winter/Spring Go Guide and thanked for their donations. To contribute to this fund stop by the Belvidere Township Park District Administration Office at 1006 West Lincoln Avenue or the Rivers Edge Recreation Center, 1151 West Locust Street, to fill out a tree donation form. You can also print the tree donation form from our website www.belviderepark.org and mail it along with your donation to the Belvidere Township Park District, 1006 West Lincoln Avenue, Belvidere, Illinois 61008.
