Travel Tips VISAS In general, New Zealand Passport holders will be issued a 90 day tourist visa upon arrival in Japan. In most cases obtaining a visa prior to departure is not required. If you are travelling on a non-New Zealand Passport please check with JTB, a licensed Travel Agent, or the Japanese Consulate. Japanese immigration procedures now require all visitors to be electronically finger printed and photographed upon arrival. VACCINATIONS As at February 2017, no inoculations are required for entering Japan from anywhere around the world. As situations may change, please check with either JTB or your local travel agent before travelling. Japan Rail Passes JPY(¥)=Japanese Yen. HOW THE PASSES WORK Japan Rail Passes are available to travellers visiting Japan with tourist (temporary visitor) visas. The pass is not available for working, working holiday or student visa holders. Japan has one of the world’s most convenient and efficient railway networks. Travelling by train is the ideal way to see Japan. The trains are comfortable, clean and easy to ride. JAPAN RAIL PASS This pass covers the entire Japan Railway JR system including some buses and ferries. You are able to travel everywhere in Japan with this pass. It comes with 7, 14 and 21 consecutive days. Each of these passes are available in Economy (Ordinary) and Green (Executive) Class. Luggage can be sent from hotel to hotel, to and from the airport, or even from a convenience store. Many people send one suitcase ahead of time and take a smaller one with them on the train.
