MORNING ARRIVAL PROCEDURES….. Walkers coming from the walking path west of the school must follow the path around the back of the building to the playground area when arriving prior to 7:45 a.m. Walkers arriving from the neighborhoods to the east should proceed directly to the playground using the paths on the east side of the building, and walkers should use the pathways on the west side of the building. Bike riders must dismount their bicycles once reaching school grounds and walk their bicycles to the racks either in front of or behind the building to be secured in the bike racks closest to their route home. Classes begin at 7:55 a.m. at Glen Grove. Students may not arrive at school prior to 7:35 a.m. There is no supervision before this time. At 7:35 a.m. Glen Grove Staff will supervise children on the playground. Children should be dressed appropriately to be outside if the wind chill is above 0° F. Starting time at all intermediate schools is 7:55 a.m, students arriving after 7:55 will be considered tardy. That means that the buses will arrive at school, for the most part, by 7:45 at which time the bells ring and students will enter classes. Morning announcements are made daily at this time about events during the day, etc. It is very important for students to be on time to facilitate the start of the day with the knowledge and information to be successful. PARENT-TEACHER ASSOCIATION….. The Westbrook/Glen Grove Parent Teacher Association is a very active group of volunteers, whose service is essential to the success of the schools. In addition to providing ongoing support to school improvement efforts, the PTA sponsors school assemblies, Ice Cream Socials, book fairs, and many other worth while events. All parents are urged to take an active role in this organization. Meetings will be held at Glen Grove School from 9:15 - 10:45 on the following dates: April 19th, and May 17th.

P.E. NEWS….. Welcome back Glen Grove students and families! We hope everyone enjoyed their Spring Break. We are in the final trimester of another amazing year in PE! Before the break, 4th and 5th grade students were given the opportunity to climb the balance beam. Students climbed up a ladder onto the platform of the balance beam which is about 25 feet off the floor. They walked across the balance beam and then back down the ladder. A fantastic experience for them! Along with climbing, students engaged in cooperative, low organized games. After Spring Break, students will be participating in the bowling and dance units. Students will be taught bowling etiquette, the proper approach, and releasing with the opposite foot in front. All students are given the opportunity to bowl, be a pin setter, and a scorekeeper. We finish the bowling unit with an activity called Bowling Bingo. During the dance unit, students will be participating in various line dances. We will end the dance unit with the Cupid Shuffle, Cha-Cha Slide, and Cotton Eyed Joe. These are some of the students’ favorite dances! Next up somewhat depends on the weather. Students need to finish their fitness testing which includes the mile run, sit ups, push ups, and the sit and reach. Students will set goals for these fitness tests in hopes they can improve before the end of the school year. Once all the tests are finished, we will be sending home a Fitness Report that show all of your student’s fitness scores for each of the tests. On the horizon is the golf, floor hockey, track and field, and softball/kickball units. During the golf unit, students learn how to drive, chip, and putt. In floor hockey, students will learn hand placement, practice puck handling skills, wrist shots, and passing to moving targets. During track and field, students will perform the 40 yard dash, relay races, standing long jump, hurdles, and the javelin throw. During the softball/kickball unit, students will learn different field positions, softball/baseball terminology, hand placement on the bat, and rules of the game.
