The idea „It is not possible „not to do washing. Even if we want to save resources, economise sustainably, buy ecologically, there is still the knowledge: our actions have consequences. Those who do washing, therefore accept a certain environmental impact. However, there are various possibilities, even for washing, to act ecologically, and therefore live up to our responsibilities. More than 30 years ago, we decided to take care of this world, and produce products, that protect our environment. Everyone can have a positive effect through their actions. We firmly believe that! We ensure high quality and ecological products, and you a consciously efficient usage. This means that together, we can successfully wash ecologically and intelligently. Nature gives us so much, let’s give a little bit of sense back! 04 Washing process How does washing work? Washing laundry is a complex process, which should remove dirt from the laundry, and hygienically wash it clean, without damaging the textiles. If you don’t want to wonder about the results of your own washing any more in future, you can analyse yourself how the washing result can be optimised. Sinner’s washing cycle clarifies the dependencies of the factors. Detergent Time Detergent Time Mechanism Temperature M90° Mechanism Temperature M60° If the share of one of the factors is decreased, e.g. the temperature is lower, then the share of one of the other factors has to be increased, to achieve the same washing result: lower washing temperatures mean e.g. longer washing times and more mechanism. New machines are already optimally set, thanks to special washing cycles such as eco, wool and sport programmes, or specially for dark clothes or jeans. Act in cycles. Clean alternatives 05 Our ecological detergents are manufactured using a soap base. To this end, we saponify plant oils and fats in a low temperature process. We process raw materials from renewable resources. Therefore, we comply with our principle of thinking and acting in cycles. When the soap enters the waste water, soap scum and fatty acids occur straight away, as a result of the reactions with existing salts and acids. Later, a disintegration process occurs through the microorganisms living in the waste water, i.e. total degradation or complete mineralization. The disintegration process of the soap leaves no residue. Therefore, it is possible to relieve the strain on the environment and the sewage treatment plants, by using ecological detergents. 06 Ecological action 1t0hagtrweeonrkrufolerspperoopdluecwtsho care Test yourself to see how effectively you are already washing! There are lots of small details, that allow intelligent and ecological washing. 1. Always wash white and coloured washing separately 2. Adhere to washing instruction in the textiles 3. Pretreat stains with stain soap or stain gel immediately 4. Fill washing machine optimally (see: tip page 9) 5. Choose a detergent suitable for the type of washing (see: table page 8-11) 6. Adhere to detergent dosage instructions exactly 7. Select washing programme up to max. 60°C 8. Dry washing in the fresh air 9. Spin washing that will be dried in the dryer, at a higher speed 10. Dry residual moisture from washing to be ironed – makes ironing easier Source in accordance with IKW (German Industry Association for Personal Hygiene and Washing Agents) | about 4: in the case of easy care, delicates and wool washes, place a very reduced load into the drum. | About 8: Washing that is dried on the line, should not be spun at a high speed, as otherwise it will crease a lot. We recommend maximum 1200 S/min | About 9: washing, that is dried in the dryer, should be spun at 1400 – 1600 S/min. This reduces the drying time. Easy care, delicates and wool washing are of course exempt.

Small symbol dictionary Keep labels 07 Washing This symbol shows, that the piece of clothing can be washed normally in the machine. As a rule, the washing temperature is on the label. Hand wash only. This belongs in the wash basin, at max. 40°C. Don’t wring or rub it. Treat washing with a line below the washing symbol with the greatest of care. Choose the delicates washing cycle. Washing with this symbol must not be washed by hand or in the machine. It must be dry cleaned. Cleaning If there is an A in a circle, the material can tolerate all chemical substances. P stands for chemical cleaning with perchloroethylene. The item of clothing must under no circumstances be chemically cleaned. Drying The piece of laundry can be dried in the dryer. Washing with this symbol should be laid out to dry. Please hang washing on the line to dry, after a short spin. The piece of laundry must not be dried in the dryer. Ironing An iron on the label means that the item of clothing can not only be ironed, but also warm mangled. Two dots on the iron correspond to a temperature of 150°C. One dot or approx. 110°C is sufficient for ironing or mangling silk and nylon. An item of clothing with this symbol must not be ironed or mangled.

The bleach and stain removal salt in our all-purpose detergent, prevents greying of washing, and eliminates stains. SODASAN Color detergent contains no visual brighteners, and is particularly suited to coloured textiles. Tip In the case of severe soiling, leave washing to soak in the machine overnight. In the case of severe soiling, or stains on white or colourfast coloured washing, you can add SODASAN bleach & stain removal salt to the detergent. SOFTENER By using SODASAN softener, the quantity of detergent in medium to hard water (hardness range 2-4), can be reduced to the minimum required quantity for soft water (hardness range 1). SODASAN Color detergent contains no visual brighteners, and is particularly suited to coloured textiles. In the case of severe soiling, or stains on white or colourfast coloured washing, you can add SODASAN bleach & stain removal salt to the detergent.

Tips from customer service 13 Before the washing cycle It is best to remove stains straight away. If it is too late for this: soak textiles with severe soiling and/or yellowed textiles, or tea or coffee stains overnight. This works wonders! For colourfast or white textiles, use SODASAN bleach & stain removal salt, which achieves a particularly good effect at high temperatures. This means that pre-washing is unnecessary. During the washing cycle To avoid incorrect dosages, it is advisable to take heed of the dosage instructions. In addition, you should know what level of hardness the water has. As with the modular principle, you can then add water softener, bleach or fabric conditioner, to achieve a better washing result. Please note: powder detergent only dissolves at 40°C. So, it is better to use liquid detergent when washing at cold temperatures up to 30°C! Every all-purpose detergent contains bleach. Take care with non-colourfast textiles! For white washing and colourfast coloured washing, an allpurpose detergent is excellently suited, because it removes bleachable stains, and makes white whiter. After the washing cycle The washing line is the best dryer. The washing becomes soft by moving through the air. If you use the dryer, you should spin the washing at a higher speed, to save energy when drying. You should also ensure hygiene inside the washing machine! Therefore, wash at 60°C 1-2 times per month. To ventilate the machine, leave the machine door open, and open the dosage drawer.

14 That’s better Practical knowledge. Washing machines eat socks They actually do! Due to a gap between the drum and the rubber seal, small items often end up in the inner workings of the machine. This is best avoided by placing these items in a washing bag beforehand. Hard washing How hard or soft your washing is, is primarily determined by how it is dried. Textiles, that are dried with high air movement (e.g. wind or even in the tumble dryer), are very soft. When drying without air movement (e.g. boiler room), the washing will feel hard. Greying of washing Poor detergents, or too low doses, only insufficiently retain removed dirt in the suds. This means that the dirt can soak back into the textile fibres, instead of draining away with the rinsing water. The more dirt is stored on whites, little by little, the greyer they turn. So use heavy duty laundry detergents, and do not underdose! In extreme cases: leave greyed white washing to soak overnight in hot water (even in the washing machine), with SODASAN bleach & stain removal salt.

This can have various causes: the washing temperature is too low, or the washing programme is too short. The remedy is a higher washing temperature, a longer washing programme, an additional rinse cycle or an acid rinse with our SODASAN fabric conditioner. White marks on dark washing In particular, users of ecological detergents tend to overload the machine. This means that detergent residues are found on the washing. The only thing that helps here is putting in less washing. Or you can use our SODASAN fabric conditioner, which doesn’t coat the fibres like a classic fabric softener, but rather removes the alkaline detergent residues, allergen free, as an acid rinse, and leaves behind a discreet peach fragrance.
