www .gatoralley.net whether the attorney general should be an activist oh yes i think the office should be active and go after deceptive and illegal trade practices aronberg said i think the ag should be tough and should be the people s lawyer i think it should be about good public policy rather than political grandstanding the attorney general shouldn t be leading by press conference on the arizona immigration law immigration is a federal matter and although i understand why states are frustrated it is a federal matter that the feds need to address he said on the lawsuit florida joined against the obama health care plan aronberg said there was nothing more political than the state s participation in the lawsuit florida has joined against the obama health care plan i will end the state s participation in that lawsuit he said jeff kottkamp r priorities if elected one would be to carry on gen [bill mccollum s lawsuit to undo obamacare kottkamp said two will be obviously dealing with the aftermath of the oil spill and three would be challenging the epa s imposition of water quality standards that would cause us to more than double our property taxes and those are things that don t happen every year so those are things that would have to be immediate priorities whether the attorney general should be an activist i think that job one of government and job one of the attorney general is to keep the people safe he said it s working with law enforcement working with a statewide view a statewide plan of attack against crime so we re not inefficiently using resources and we re all on the same page when we re going to get rid of pill mills or how we re going to attack cyber crime on the arizona immigration law kottkamp said he supports republican rep will snyder s proposal to craft an arizona-style immigration bill but he noted florida is a very different place than the southwestern state and his approach would be to sue the federal government to recoup costs the state incurs to secure our borders i think that anybody that s critical of arizona doesn t understand arizona he said they don t understand that this very violent drug war has spilled over their borders and innocent people innocent law enforcement officers are being killed and people are afraid to walk on their streets holly benson r priorities if elected carrying on the lawsuit attacking federal health care reform and a lot of people believe because of my experience with health care and as a lawyer that i m the best qualified benson said beyond that is the economy so i d like to use my lawyers to figure out how to reduce the red tape that is stifling entrepreneurs across the state whether the attorney general should be an activist i believe that the most important thing all the lawyers can do well all of state government can do is get our economy back on track i believe the best way you can use your lawyers is to figure out how do you peel back regulation on the arizona immigration law benson said the question she gets most frequently on the campaign trail is whether she supports an arizona-style immigration proposal in florida she does support similar leg slation in flori does legislation florida oe legi and believes it will gain traction in the legislature because most of the people she speaks to on the ca trail ple she speaks t on the campaign t e h eaks say they want a similar law they are frustrated the federal government hasn t bothered to enforce the law she said and beyond that fllor law he said and beyond t a f aw e a d eyon that florida ond has a lot of legal immigrants and they come here because they fled oppressive regimes and they believe the united ive regimes and they believe the unit v e an e e ieve h e states is a nation of laws so if we re not willing to uphold the first law that lets people in how are they supposed to ts people in how are they supposed ple h pl h suppo d upp believe in any other law so i believe that we have to enforce our immigration [laws ion [laws o aws ws on the lawsuit florida joined against the obama health care plan well first it s unconstitutional benson well first it s unconstitutiional bens ell t s unconstit onal constitu al n said it violates the commerce clause and it violates the tenth amendment but equally iimportant it s going to ent ut equally mportant it s going t t qual mportant s ally tant ng wreck our health care system pam bondi r has not responded to an interview request darrin brooks legislative abate of fla inc · gator alley chapter page 11
