russ ueeck president of gator alley chapter of abate of florida hey y all by the time that everyone reads this many people will have already heard about the motorcycle accident that our brother wylie was in last week thank god he is doing way better than expected is now at home recovering i have seen the outpouring of support to wylie his wife susan the entire family again it is just one of the many reasons that it makes me proud to be a member of this chapter while i know there are many of us going to tally for the run to the state capital it would be awesome to see even a larger showing of support this will be the first year for michele i we cannot wait to experience this event don t forget that we have the casino run coming up on april 19th it will promise to be a blast as usual the event ends at the casino in immokalee where i am positive i will lose whatever money that michele sets aside like always i really want a strong showing of support for this run by all of us coming up on may 1st 2nd is mash bash things are pretty much done we only have a few things left to do now when you get a chance thank your committee members without their time energy effort nothing would be possible or happen on a parting note keep in mind that chapter elections are coming around the bend give a thought about taking on a position it can be a pain at times but it will be one of the most rewarding things you can do what you get is directly related to what you put into it as the saying goes don t be a part of the problem be a part of the solution till next month ride safe ride free but most of all ride russ here s to a speedy recovery captain wylie lynn and fred corr abate of fla inc gator alley chapter page 5

hey ya ll no report for this month next state meeting will be april 12th in tally at 2:00 p.m we re getting excited about going to tally in a few weeks i hope we see alot of gator alley members going the ride to the capitol is april 13th the thrill you get when you see the capital in that long line of bikes is something you will never forget so let s make gator alley proud when we go in and talk to our legislators representatives and their aids don t forget the casino run on april 19th then mash bash on may 1st 2nd til next time i hope all is safe ride on rick loy state delegate #1 gator alley chapter ride baby ride tina loy state delegate #2 chapter historian elections report as per the request of the chapter i am currently working on getting the bod s position descriptions ready for print in the newsletter the problem i brought to the bod s attention at the last meeting was the fact that the state s descriptions are 12 pages long and the gator alley descriptions of the bod positions is 7 pages long so in order to save space and cost in the newsletter the descriptions will be condensed as much as they can be and still describe the duties my personal thought for anyone interested in a position is that if you are serious about stepping up you should be at both the bod meetings and the chapter meetings to fully understand how things are run also talk to the current bod or past bod members and figure out which position you can honestly and realistically commit to before you are nominated it is your responsibility to follow through i have 5 copies of the state bylaws with me today but i can no longer make copies at work so only take one if you are really interested in a position or do one step better print out your own copy from the website the nomination process starts next month i am asking you in advance do not nominate people who do not wish to be nominated it is just a waste of time and space in the report if you are truly interested then do your part and fully understand the words volunteer and commitment i am pretty sure next year s bod is already sitting in this room because if you are here at the monthly meetings you obviously want to be a part of this chapter i believe that it s everybody s job to do the work no matter how long you have been in this group if you are still a member and you want your opinion heard and validated in the proper channels be a part of the bod and make things happen a strong board with participating members is the only way that we will continue to move forward with our goals and directives everyone needs to be a part of that if you have any questions for me please feel free to call or email me respectfully submitted margo dugan abate of fla inc gator alley chapter page 6

important stuff march legislative report hey everyone we are now in the time when the legislative season starts to heat up things will be happening fast and we will need to be able to respond quickly with a string and clear voice the post cards have gone along way to help give the gator a voice the purchase of the post cards was a great investment in the future of gator alley and i thank you for that trust at the february chapter meeting we sent out a second batch of post cards aimed directly at our state senators enlisting their support of sb 968 which is the stiffer penalties bill for hitting a motorcyclist here is a few of the highlights of the bill a person who is convicted of a moving violation that causes serious bodily injury to a person riding on a motorcycle commits a misdemeanor of the second degree shall pay a fine of not less than $500 serve a minimum of 30 days of incarceration and attend a driver improvement course the court shall also revoke the person s driver s license for not less than 30 days a person who is convicted of a moving violation that causes or contributes to causing the death of a person riding on a motorcycle commits a misdemeanor of the first degree and shall pay a fine of not less than $1,000 serve a minimum of 90 days of incarceration and attend an advanced driver improvement course the court shall also revoke the person s driver s license for not less than 1 year there have also been three cell phone restriction bills filed in the senate this year last year none of the cell phone bills went very far but we will still keep an eye on these on of the bills sb 112 that prohibits the use of cell phones while driving in a school zone was introduced by sen bullard who represents eastern collier county so maybe we can show her support for her bill and she will be more willing to help support abate of florida on a bill that we need passed another interesting bill is sb 262 this bill will require a law enforcement officer who has a reasonable suspicion that a person was driving or in actual physical control of a motor vehicle when it was involved in an accident the accident may have caused or contributed to the death of a human being to require that the person submit to a blood test to determine the alcoholic content thereof or the presence of specified substances etc in order to keep up to date with all the action i implore you to go to www.floridaabate.com and sign-up to get the e-mail up-dates as soon as they happen see ya darrin scribe brooks abate of fla inc gator alley chapter page 7
