our students and staff 8 our students and staff our students are from diverse cultural backgrounds and all age groups many come straight from school others choose to study here after working in the creative industries or opting to change career path the careers of our graduates are as varied as their backgrounds the creative industries form one of the uk economy s fastest growing sectors artists designers and performers are at the centre of the entertainment fashion and communication worlds as well as our permanent staff all of them practising artists designers or performers we employ a large body of visiting practitioners who are professional artists designers performers and communicators student projects are often set by outside companies and frequently enjoy a practical outcome through exhibitions designs that go into manufacture and national or international competitions central saint martins is an international environment that reflects the global professions our graduates enter more than 40 per cent of our students come from outside the uk and there are opportunities for experiences in other countries on many of our courses csm cross-college electives programme the electives programme is integral to all degree courses at central saint martins and offers opportunities for stage two undergraduate students to reflect critically on issues and debates in art design performing arts and popular culture with their peers from across the college currently elective seminars are offered in art and design history and theory film studies media studies cultural and literary theory scriptwriting creative writing and architectural history while promoting critical reflection on art and design practices the programme is a forum for debate which explores transformations in culture.
