what s in the newsletter this week 2012 class placements new logo explanation www.parkland.school.nz stars of the week females in football pta purchases technology challenge 2011 headlice icas writing ross intermediate 2012 plant to plate school assemblies dear parents due to the last term being only eight weeks long schools throughout the country have already begun work on their planning for 2012 we will begin looking at classes for 2012 in the next few weeks whilst parents obviously can not choose which class your child is placed in it does help if we are aware of any special circumstances when we make those placement decisions if any parent has `special circumstances that need to be considered when we place your child you are advised to call in and see me personally before the end of september you could also email me principal@parkland.school.nz if that is easier we make no promises apart from assuring you that the special circumstances surrounding the placement of your child will be considered when this process is undertaken we are sorry to be saying farewell to tasha cravino next week who is leaving to have her baby tasha has done an excellent job as the acting junior team leader and we wish her the very best her talents were very evident throughout this year s school production mrs bridget higson will be relieving in room 10 and mrs anna ousey room 9 will take over as the acting junior team leader peter barnett principal

the combination of hands reaching upwards is a clear link to the vision statement `rise to the challenge children at parkland school put their hands up they participate in a partnership of learning and they rise to the challenge the hands represent the ideas of growth progression and the learning partnerships between students teachers and parents the hands also represent consideration one of our core values one hand represents consideration for ourselves many hands represent consideration for others the sun like shape formed when the hands come together represent consideration for the different sized hands represent the range of partnerships our environment throughout the school adults supporting children and as a community we consider and support each other a vibrant colour palette ranging from blue through to gold and pink adds a sense of fun and represents the spectrum of exciting and challenging learning opportunities available to students the combination of the hands in this identity and the curve at the base of the arms hints at and links to the image of the sun present in our current logo and our `r.i.s.e inquiry model the four main colours represent the four areas of the `rise acronym with blue for `ready green for `i wonder gold for `searching and pink for `effect the tall typeface of parkland reiterates the idea of rising up and standing tall while the bolder typeface selected for `rise to the challenge contributes strength and confidence which goes hand in hand with learning at parkland school.

females in football week last week we were very fortunate to have anna green future fern footballer and three staff from sport manawatu visit central football organised a skills and football festival just for girls one on one coaching junior girls `protect their goal pta purchases our thanks to the parkland pta for purchasing new digital cameras each class now has one to use whenever they are needed technology challenge 2011 congratulations to the following children who have earnt the right to represent parkland school at the bp technology challenge by `winning their team challenges year 3 4 sophie bayliss naomi bell molly taylor-brock and shanee simpson room 2 year 5 6 mya charlton breana maniapoto-erickson victoria holmes maddie smith room 13 headlice please check your child s hair and treat if necessary if headlice are found at school it is our policy to send children home until treated it is important that all cases are treated to avoid this problem continually recurring.

icas writing achievements our classroom focus this year on developing the deeper features of writing was certainly reflected in the icas writing results for 2011 congratulations to the following year 4 jackson head credit danielle holmes liana thompson distinction year 5 sophie banks distinction aimee harper high distinction year 6 victoria holmes lea muetzel credit james harper distinction ross intermediate 2012 ross currently only have 50 spaces for their 2012 intake and we are aware there are still in zone people not yet enrolled if you are one of those who have not yet enrolled and intend sending your child to ross intermediate please contact the school urgently plant to plate harvest the wait is over and room 12 have begun to harvest their crops from the `plant to plate programme school assemblies when your child s class is presenting assembly we welcome parents and families of that class however please understand that children cannot be released early after assembly school closes at 2.55pm for all children if parents need to wait they are welcome to checkout the latest on the hub using the library computers.
