welcome to a new year of youth ministry for the teens of st mark parish youth nights are held in the st mark parish center about the program we are a catholic family being called by god to grow in faith to make a difference by uniting the youth of the church and the community and to help carry out his plan for us as disciples in christ a typical youth night games praise worship food prayer large group discussion friends break out sessions fun laughter fall kick-off youth masses high school gravy bowl winter camp county wide retreats rallies archdiocese youth pilgrimage easter egg hunt fundraisers god camp annual activities page 3

be involved your participation in youth ministry is very important to the success of the program and importantly to your teens spiritual development you are welcome to come and join the fun and find ways to in which to help volunteers can commit to the entire year of gatherings or for specific events become a youth minister is god calling you to lead young people then youth ministry can use your talents you could be a small group leader helping behind the scenes putting your tech savvy skills to work or making sure our teens are safe contact mariah harris for more information 541.689.1054 supplies fundraisers pay for basic supplies needed in the program as our program evolves we will have times when we require certain items families will be asked to donate items when needed and donations of basic supplies are always welcome plenty of notice will be given snack shack parents and teens are asked to bring snacks to stock-up the snack shack feel free to donate snacks during any youth night thank you for providing healthy and nutritious snacks fundraisers the youth ministry program is run on a self-supporting budget what we earn is what we can spend please support your teen and the youth ministry program by planning organizing working and participating in all fundraisers new ideas are always welcome please contact mariah harris if you have an idea to share page 4

communication in an effort to reduce paper waste information will primarily be shared through emails the guardian and our parish website www.saintmarkeugene.org the guardian for weekly faith formation youth ministry news every week you can find it in the bulletin on the parish website or sign up to receive it by email when you fill out your registration forms please leave a legable email address keeping our teens safe behavior expectations all teens are expected to do their best be respectful of themselves others and the facility work as a team glorify god in their words and actions if a teen persists in not adhering to the expectations youth ministry volunteers will first speak with the teen and work together to develop an action plan for behavior improvement parents will be notified about this plan and asked to participate called to protecttm we can t be with our children at all times but we can learn ways to help keep them safe when we re not there we invite you to join us for the educational session called to protecttm for parents and families the 1.5 hour program will teach parents and family members how to help prevent child sexual abuse called to protect tm was written and developed for the church by praesidium the national leader in abuse risk management if you are a parent grandparent aunt uncle or godparent we encourage you to attend the session you ll learn facts and myths about child sexual abuse how offenders gain access to children warning signs to look for in children or adults actions to take when you notice warning signs we also provide educational sessions for elementary youth teens and catechists the archdiocese of portland requires us to educate as many people young and old as we can if you do not want your child or teen to participate in these sessions you need to contact mariah harris for further information the schedule for all sessions will be provided in the fall page 5

confirmation sacramental preparation for all high school students who are wanting to receive the sacrament of confirmation confirmation preparation is offered every other year classes will begin in the fall of 2011 with confirmation being held in spring of 2012 program requirements family must be registered in the parish a roman catholic baptismal certificate the child has celebrated the sacraments of penance and eucharist full participation in the sacramental preparation process attend youth nights and any other youth ministry meetings or events attend all required confirmation meetings attend the confirmation retreat choose a confirmation sponsor a sponsor must be a confirmed practicing catholic over the age of 16 a parent cannot be a sponsor for his or her own child weekend mass attendance is required become more involved in the st mark parish community research a saint and write a report on that saint all confirmation students are required to complete 15 service hours service hours may be done for the church community an organization etc page 6

these are all the necessary forms you must fill out to register your teen youth ministry registration form one per each youth please make sure to fill out each part of the form student/youth emergency information and procedure form for each teen in the family each year the archdiocese requires that one form be submitted for each child parent info form we ask that parents get involved in the parish by lending your time and talents where you feel called by the spirit to serve photo permission slip we are able to post photos of our youth on the st mark website www.saintmarkeugene.org but we need parental permission to do so sacramental prep form confirmation for your high school teen who is wanting to receive the sacrament of confirmation classes will begin in the fall of 2011 parish registration form please fill out if you are not a registered member of st mark page 8
