unh manchester s female a cappella group milling around presents an a cappella competition concert and educational clinics for new hampshire middle and high school students voices of 603 it is our hope that by providing this opportunity to the choruses across the state the love for vocal music will flourish the day-long program provides opportunities for performance and networking between students teachers and schools our goals for voices of 603 are to · provide college scholarships with funding raised through concert ticket sales · raise awareness of vocal and a cappella music in the state · connect and showcase the talented musicians throughout the state and · provide alternative ways to foster a lifelong passion in music without necessarily majoring in music the program consists of two segments the first part of the day was at the university of new hampshire at manchester located in manchester s historic millyard at the unh manchester campus we hosted clinics for the students and their teachers on the topics of beatboxing presented by charles marlowe not too sharp alum and rehearsal techniques and stage presence presented by nate altimari firedrill musical director and founder we are pleased to have had dr andrew spector from ear nose and throat specialists of southern new hampshire who presented a session on the keys to great vocal health the second part of the program along with the students teachers and presenters moved to the historic palace theatre for the remainder of the day at the palace the only surviving theater from manchester s great white way the students will be performing in a public concert where a 2010 voices of the 603 state champion will be recognized and provided with many performance opportunities lined up across the state such as national anthem opportunities and other media appearances about voices of the 603 we hope you enjoy the show www.voicesofthe603.com page 1

performing groups biographies prospect mountain high school ahwooh capella ahwooh capella is made up of the 15 members of the select chorus at prospect mountain high school the chorus is six years in the making starting with only 5 singers last year at the music showcase festival at busch gardens va they won the grand sweepstakes award for choral performance directed by jamie bolduc winnacunnet high school chamber singers the winnacunnet chambers singers is a select group of vocalists in grades 10-12 auditioned from the membership of the whs chorus the group sings a variety of a cappella repertoire from madrigals to jazz and pop music the singers perform at many community and school functions including singing the national anthem at sporting events entertaining at dinners parties and holiday events with one of the highlights being their performance at the timberland factory employee holiday party last year along with the whs chorus the group was one of 12 nh choirs featured on new hampshire public television with the tim janis ensemble the chamber singers have consistently earned excellent and superior ratings at invitational music festivals in new york city philadelphia and williamsburg this spring the group will be traveling with the winnacunnet jazz band to a music festival in toronto canada directed by patrick moore unh manchester milling around milling around was founded by jamie in the fall of 2009 with eight members in the ensemble this group currently has 17 members and meets two hours a week this group in its first semester raised over $500 at the first concert for the animal rescue league of new hampshire in the spring semester of 2010 this group raised funds for the ywca of new hampshire sang for commencement performed at concord high school s benefit for haiti and won the president s leadership award milling around is the only collegiate a cappella group in manchester the largest college city in nh with over 16,000 college students in the area directed by jamie saucier student directed by fotini palogaris www.voicesofthe603.com page 2

berlin high school shockapella shockapella was formed in 2007 as a casual afterschool activity since then the group has become a highly in demand performing group our favorite performances include the nh executive counsel singing for governor john lynch and syfy s ghost hunters this year the singers will tour england scotland and ireland directed by kristen bushway manchester west high school chamber singers directed by susan wilkes the manchester high school west chamber choir is made up of auditioned singers in grades 10-12 singing repertoire that is challenging and diverse this ensemble performs at school and community functions as well as in concerts with other vocal and instrumental groups from west former members of the chamber choir have performed at carnegie hall and in nh all state festivals along with 12 other choirs from nh the west chamber choir performed with tim janis in the celebrate america project featured on new hampshire public television the ensemble has annually received high scores and recommendations from clinicians at manchester s queen city festival members of this group are also actively involved with their school by participating in the orchestra band and jazz band as well as athletic teams nhs theater knights and student council in december the group will also be performing in a collaborative concert with the manchester choral society unh durham off the clef directed by phoebe bonaparte-krogh ast directed by sarah goudreault off the clef began its formation in the fall of 2009 fueled by phoebe bonaparte-krogh and will ford by rounding up many friends the group commenced their journey and started rehearsing music in the basement of jessie doe hall at unh later the group dormhopped moved to serc b and has finally made a home in the upper quad in march 2010 off the clef became a newly recognized organization at the university of new hampshire this makes it the 6th a cappella group at unh durham and the 2nd coed group the members of off the clef would like to thank all supporters of this new coed a cappella group and encourages them to attend any upcoming performances www.voicesofthe603.com page 3

special guests biographies heather bishop emcee wzid personality born and raised in upstate ny my husband brian and i moved out to nh over 10 years ago and we never want to move again we love it here we have a young son who is in grade school and loves music as much as his mom i commute every day to work so if you see a crazy woman on 93 singing at the top of her lungs in her car chances are good you have found me when i m not driving working or hanging out with the boys i m on the internet reading or watching tv i m addicted to hbo s rome can t wait till they make the movie showtime s the tudors grey s desperate housewives house and most reality shows right now i m really into true blood on hbo but i don t have hbo so don t tell me what is going on i want to be surprised when i watch my friend s dvr of it one of my coworkers once said that i am the queen of pop trivia if you ever need to know the name of a song or the artist chances are good i can help just email heather@wzid.com listen to heather bishop middays 10am-3pm on wzid.com 95.7 dr andrew spector presenter proper vocal heath dr andrew spector was born and raised in akron ohio before attending and graduating from tulane university he obtained a bachelor of arts in byzantine history before attending the ohio state university college of medicine he graduated cum laude from medical school in 2000 dr spector then completed his formal training in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery in 2005 at thomas jefferson university hospital in philadelphia pennsylvania dr spector s expertise encompasses the full scope of medical and surgical care of disorders of the ear nose and throat he enjoys caring for pediatric adult and elderly patients dr spector also has particular interest in several areas in which he has received outstanding training these include medical and surgical management of voice and swallowing dysfunction sinus disorders thyroid and parathyroid abnormalities salivary gland tumors problems with smell taste and hearing as well as cancers of the head and neck when he is not taking care of patients dr spector enjoys hiking camping cooking and spending time with his family http www.entspecialistsnh.com www.voicesofthe603.com page 8

nathan altimarti presenter stage presence rehearsal techniques nathan altimari has been a part of the a cappella community at large for nearly 15 years he attended the university of massachusetts at amherst where he was a pivotal member of the umass doo-wop shop during the summers he joined hyannis sound a professional a cappella group located on cape cod in 1998 he co-founded jyde a short-lived but much-loved vocal band located on st thomas in the virgin islands since those days nathan has been a member of many semi-professional and professional a cappella groups across the country including four shadow out of mn jigsaw groove the soar throtes and the sea sharps out of boston and mutual x out of the usa most notably nathan founded firedrill in 2004 the group formed solely to compete in the harmony sweepstakes competition later after winning regionals losing the finals and disbanding favorite artist martin sexton called having heard their rendition of can t stop thinking about you he invited them to open his new year s eve show and to sing can t stop with him in the show after this show the members of firedrill realized that they had something special they decided to put together an album and were approached by sojam to come and perform with moosebutter in 2006 firedrill s first full-length album sings without music vol ii won a cara contemporary a cappella recording award in 2009 for best pop/rock album and were included on several compilations and awards nathan lives in albany ny with his wife georgette he is a clinician arranger vocal coach and educator for hire charles marlowe presenter beatboxing charles graduated from the university of new hampshire in 2009 with a ba in political science and minors in sociology and business administration he is currently employed in the electronics manufacturing field while preparing to pursue officer candidacy in the us navy while at unh he auditioned and spent the next four years with the all-male a cappella group not too sharp during his tenure charles was introduced to the art of vocal percussion and became one of the group s staple percussionists for the years to come while he is well-aware that vocal percussion requires very little special training he takes pride in conveying the importance of vocal percussion and the role it plays in completing the sound of contemporary a cappella groups charles work can be heard on two of not too sharp s most recent studio albums the self-titled album not too sharp from 2006 and on their 2009 release shifting gears www.voicesofthe603.com page 9
