To celebrate the occasion, an extravagant event “i11-11 Years of transforming 200000 Lives and A Celebration of One Million Smiles” was organized by Aide et Action in Jaipur. The occasion was an opportunity to unveil the talents of our iLEAD programme team, project staff and trainees. We hope that the programme will reach many more milestones in the coming days and transform the lives of many disadvantaged youth. We hope the information in the news letter is inspiring. AEAI SA NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 2017 3 Sumit Soni Programme Manager, Livelihood Education sumit.soni@aide-etaction.org “One Million Smiles” celebrated in Jaipur The Livelihood Education intervention - Initiative for Livelihood Education and Development (iLEAD) has completed 11 years and reached out to more than 200,000 deprived youth. To celebrate the success and express our gratitude to all those who stood by us, Aide et Action South Asia organized “ i11-11 Years of transforming 200000 Lives and A Celebration of One Million Smiles” on 31st January 2017 at Birla Auditorium, Jaipur, India Miss India (Sriya finalist) - Savita, Miss Rajwada - Jyoti Saini, Face of Jaipur 2016 & Jaipur Ikon 2015 - Anu Sharma and many more renowned models walked the ramp along with - Mona, Aparna, Dimple, Bhawna, Radhika, Pinky, Kalpana, Chetna, Reena, Meera, Nisha, Dharmishtha, Neeta and many girls who are part of the iLEAD programme of Aide et Action. The apparal for the show were designed by our fashion trainers from different cities & towns across India under the iLEAD programme supported by Accenture. The highlight of the programme was the music launch of iLEAD theme song by renowned bollywood signer Ravindra Upadhyaya (Channel V Super Singer) and upcoming singer Shikha Mathur. The event also saw the lauch of eModules on Digital Literacy in different languages. The iLEAD centers - Shillong, Pratapnagar, Dharampur, Sundergarh, Trivandrum, Paharganj, and Malad were awarding for their remarkable contribution in enhancing the quality of skill development programmes in iLEAD. Our partners - Microsoft, Accenture, HCL Foundation, BRLPS, RSLDC, Himayat, DSAG, GUDM, Tata Trusts and Tata Power were felicitated during the event for their valuable contribution and support in Aide et Action’s iLEAD Programme.

AEAI SA NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 2017 4 Donation on wheels organized in Bhopal Mohit Chandrasekhar Programme Officer, Bhopal Regional Office mohit.chandrasekhar@aide-et -action.org The AEAI SA Bhopal Regional Office team came out with an innovative concept to pool resources for the welfare of the young migrants living in the construction sites. Aptly named “Donation on Wheels” which perfectly syncs with the communities who are on the move, the drive mobilized resources to provide early child care & education to the young migrants. We thank the people who have come forward to pledge their support for the cause of young migrants. Arunmani Sheryll, Programme Officer, Chennai Regional Office arulmani.sheryll@aide-et- action.org Peers mentor Enlight project children Peers can be positive role models who can bring desired behavior changes through education and social learning. With this objective, Aide et Action has introduced a new concept ‘Kutty Teacher’ in the Enlight project operational in Salem, Trichy, Chennai and Bangalore. The girl child/children who have secured ‘A’ grade in the Child Competency Assessment (CCA) conducted by the Enlight volunteers will be helping 2-3 girls in their studies. The kutty teacher will be mentored individually by the Enlight volunteers on leadership, health, hygiene, environmental cleanliness etc. Through the ‘kutty teachers’, the center volunteers are able to see improvement in the children in their writing, reading and arithmetic skills.

AEAI SA NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 2017 5 Satyadeep Pati, Programme Manager, Patna Regional Office satyadeep.pati@aide-et- action.org Child Cabinet meets Panchayat & School Management Committee It was a great moment for the children to interact with the members of School Management Committee and Panchayati Raj Institutions and discuss the issues of children at the school as well as community. The interaction was part of the ‘Child Cabinet” organized by Patna Regional Office in the last week of January 2017. The children from more than 45 primary schools under the AEA’s ‘Back to Basics’ programme took part in the child cabinet. The meeting was followed by the formation of human chain by 5000 children in support of prohibiting alcohol consumption in the state of Bihar. Sai Yashwanth Programme Officer Hyderabad Regional Office Sai.yashwanth@aide-et- action.org Aide et Action to support Telangana government to educate Odia children Last month 300 children were rescued from brick kilns in villages of newly formed Yadadri district in Telangana as part of ‘Operation Smile’ by Department of Labor, Telangana Government. These children, mostly from Odisha, are now enrolled in local government primary schools. However, one of the primary challenge faced by the government is to provide Odia speaking teachers to teach these children. To address this issue, Aide et Action has facilitated in getting two teachers from Odisha to teach 30 children enrolled at Kanchal Thanda Primary School, Bommalaramaram. Discussions are on to bring in more teachers from Odisha. Mr Mahesh M Bhagath, IPS, Commissioner of Police interacting with teachers in one of the villages. AEAI SA NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 2017 6 Bala Satkurunathan Programme Manager—IP bala.satkurunathan@aide-et- action.org AEAI Sri Lanka to partner with US Embassy AEAI Sri Lanka to partner with US Embassy in Colombo (PAS-Department of State) for a project “Developing employability and entrepreneurship skills for marginalized youth of Jaffna district of Sri Lanka” under “Youth Empowerment Grants Program” which begins its implementation in Jaffna district of Sri Lanka from Jan 2017 – Dec 2017. AEA represents at IWRM 2017 Aide et Action took part in the International Workshop on Resource Mobilisation (IWRM) 2017 organized at SurajKhund, Delhi from 19-21 Jan 2017. The workshop was organised by Resource Alliance India. The workshop was a platform to share our work, learn new ideas/solutions to fundraising through online, institutional, face-to-face, etc. and build visibility.
