arena animation academic department head office objective of the competition to focus on improvise the professional skill sets of students required in today s animation industry professional skill set will basically include originality originality is the aspect of created or invented works by as being new or novel creativity creativity or creativeness is a mental process involving the generation of new ideas or concepts or new associations between existing ideas or concepts technical proficiency technical knowledge this competition will work to enhance student s skills not only in terms of technical but also his ability to do some research and development for brand marketing structure of the competition categories 1 cartooning the word cartoon has various meanings based on several very different forms of visual art and illustration the term has evolved over time the original meaning was in fine art and there cartoon meant preparatory drawing for a piece of art such as a painting or tapestry 2 stop motion stop motion or frame-by-frame is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own the object is moved by small amounts between individually photographed frames creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames are played as a continuous sequence 3 2d short film animation a short animation film based on a concept story and script where the animation is hand drawn 2d classical or 2d digital 4 3d short film animation a short animation film based on a story script where the characters are 3d animation digital models which are textured rigged animated lighted rendered and edited adding sound background score sound effects and dialogues 5 3d character modeling is the process of developing a three dimensional character model using 3d software 6 live action in film video and other media the term live action refers to cinematography not produced using animation 7 motion graphics titling motion graphics are used in things such as commercials title sequences and other forms of animation using motion can bring a piece of art or text to life stud-comp 2011

arena animation academic department head office details of the categories 1 cartooning only 1 students allowed create a cartoon on any social message e.g climate change deforestation child labour educate girl child save girl child /current affairs with having minimum 1 character any tools or software/s can be used to create the cartoon the cartooning has to be a .jpg image 2 stop motion stop motion or frame-by-frame group work/individual can also participate create a stop motion animation based on a short story concept gag or any social message any tool/s or software/s can be used to create the stop motion animation film file formats avi/mpg/mp4/quick time should play on all the medias storyboard required 3 2d short film animation group work/individual can also participate create a 2d short film based on a short story or social message any tool/s or software/s can be used to create the 2d short film file formats avi/mpg/mp4/quick time should play on all the medias storyboard required 4 3d short film animation group work/individual can also participate create a 3d short film based on a short story or social message any tool/s or software/s can be used to create the 3d short film file formats avi/mpg/mp4/quick time should play on all the medias storyboard required 5 3d character modeling only 1 student allowed create a video showcasing any one character model which can be human animal alien fantasy or mechanical the video of the character turnarounds should showcase the development process wire mesh grey scale and texture mapping of the 3d character model a final look of the character model turnarounds which is textured and lighted should be showcased in the video entry the video should demonstrate and mention the poly counts low poly or high poly and detailing of the character model you can also include the concept art of the character sketches in the video any 3d or digital sculpting tool or software can be used the video compilation can be done in any editing software the use of audio or music is at the discretion of the student/s and would have no effect on the evaluation stud-comp 2011

arena animation academic department head office file formats avi/mpg/mp4/quick time should play on all the medias 6 live action short film group work/individual can also participate create a live action short film based on short story or social message any tool/s or software/s can be used to create the live action short film file formats avi/mpg/mp4/quick time should play on all the medias storyboard required 7 motion graphics titling only 1 student create a short film sequence using motion graphics text images illustration art and videos in motion based on logo title animation of a company brand or product any tool/s or software/s can be used to create the motion graphics title sequence file formats avi/mpg/mp4/quick time should play on all the medias the maximum duration of the title sequence should not exceed 30 seconds excluding the credits guidelines 1 any software of aaip/amsp/aaasp/dae course can be used 2 the final works cd/dvd of students will have to be submitted to head office on or before 1st november 2011 3 the students project work has to be in a single cd/dvd evaluation of the project a unlimited work can be submitted ho b we will do a primary selection and select the best work to get displayed in the competition day for final evaluation by the jury members please note here again we have no limit of work from a particular centre example from 1 centre total 20 work can be selected and from 1 centre no work could get selected for final evaluation c final selection will be done centre wise for which the dates will be informed to each centre it will be based on the nominations received from the centre d we will declare the final participants name on the day of the evaluation e students work selected for the final evaluation of a centre in each category will participate in the inter-centre competition f winners in category 2,3,4 and 6 will receive only 1 trophy g all final participants in the inter-centre competition the selected work which will be displayed will receive a certificate of participation from aptech ho stud-comp 2011
