general information moberly area technical center matc is located in moberly missouri it is operated as an extension of the moberly public schools and serves secondary students from nine high schools as well as opens its doors to adult students adult students are accepted into some training programs on a space available basis after meeting specific qualifying standards all programs at matc have an active advisory committee made up of business and industry leaders that are employed in areas relating to matc s instructional programs instructors in all programs have work experience relating to the area they instruct compliancestatement the moberly public schools does not discriminate on the basis of race color national origin sex age or handicap in admission or access to or treatment or employment in its programs and activities if you have any questions regarding compliance with title vi title ix or section 504 please contact the superintendent of schools or the director of special education 926 kwix road moberly missouri 65270 660 269-2600 accreditation all programs at moberly area technical center are accredited by the missouri department of elementary and secondary education dese and the north central association of colleges and secondary schools casi matc has also received certification for our school to participate in the american welding society welding certification curriculum of study for entry-level certified welders and are currently involved with iscet the international society for certified electronics technicians as a teaching and testing facility for cet s documents regarding accreditation can be seen in the office of the matc director accessibility moberly area technical center is accessible to the disabled there is parking space reserved for those with appropriate stickers/hang tags as issued by mo department of revenue every effort is made to accommodate access to the building both for students and community patrons the staff at moberly area technical center

works with students on a case-by-case basis to see that they receive the same access to quality education as other students nondiscriminationpolicy the moberly board of education believes in the right of every student to receive equal opportunities in all educational programs and activities conducted by the school district the board also believes in the right of every qualified individual to expect fair and equal treatment moberly area technical center does not discriminate on the basis of sex race creed color national origin or handicap any person who feels that he/she has been discriminated against in violation of the nondiscriminatory policy shall apply for redress or direct questions to the following title ix section 504 and title vi coordinator assistant superintendent moberly school district 926 kwix road moberly mo65270 660 269-2600 admissionspolicy moberly area technical center provides postsecondary education for adult students through the accredited adult and/or secondary occupational training programs conducted at moberly area technical center all graduates of an accredited high school or individuals presenting a certificate for high school equivalency through the general educational development ged test are eligible for admission admissionprocedures 1 obtain application for admission from moberly area technical center adult education office complete application and return form to the adult education office with a $100.00 deposit fee and a $10.00 background check fee final admission is dependent on a clean background check and space available in the program send official transcripts of high school/college work high school diploma or ged certificate to the moberly area technical center some programs such as the american welding society welding certification program may require additional entrance exams and interviews deadlines all admission applications must be received no later than august 15 due to adult admission being on a first-come first-serve space available 2 3 4.

basis it is best to apply well in advance applications will be accepted at any time after april 15 for the next school year tuitionandfees each of the following daytime programs has a tuition fee of part-time 3 hours per day/522 hours per year $1900.00 full-time 6 hours per day/1044 hours per year $3800.00 these programs include business office technology machine tool technology welding technology computer aided design drafting building technology computer information systems medical technology automotive technology collision repair technology electronics technology accounting parking stickers are free to adult students and issued at the first of the year with proof of insurance and valid drivers license if student loses parking sticker and another is to be issued there is no charge refundpolicy the refund policy which will be applied when a student ceases to be enrolled at moberly area technical center will be either the school policy or the return of title iv funds policy the policy listed below is the school policy institutional refund for a student who officially withdraws for personal or medical reasons or is terminated from the course of study the following schedule will be used to calculate tuition refunds withdrawal before the first day of classes 100 tuition refund excluding deposit withdrawal within the 1st week of classes 90 tuition refund excluding deposit withdrawal within the 2nd week of classes 60 tuition refund excluding deposit withdrawal within the 3rd week of classes 40 tuition refund excluding deposit withdrawal within the 4th week of classes 20 tuition refund excluding deposit withdrawal after the 4th week of classes will receive no refund books tools supplies and commuting allowances are all non-refundable agencies and/or organizations sponsoring the payment of student tuition will be subject to the institutional tuition refund policy they may however replace the dropout with another student at no tuition cost for the duration of the term.

withdrawal a student wishing to withdraw from their program must provide the financial aid office with written withdrawal notification if no notice is obtained from the student and the student has missed 10 or more consecutive days without withdrawal notification the student will automatically be recommended for dismissal from the program and that day will become the official withdrawal date the student will be notified in writing of this action if a student has officially withdrawn and rescinds that decision the student will need to give written notification of that decision to the financial aid office conduct because the adult students are in constant contact with high school age students the rules addressing the high school age population as outlined by the moberly board of education will serve as a rule of thumb the items discussed here are specific causes for dismissal from the moberly area technical center 1 the use or possession of alcohol on school premises 2 the use or possession of any drugs other then over the counter or prescription for the student on school premises 3 any involvement on the part of the adult student in fighting or threats with another student or a staff member 4 deliberate damage destruction or defacing of school property or equipment 5 moberly area technical center promotes a smokefree environment use of tobacco is prohibited 6 any act of fraudulent academic deception in the event that any of the above reasons occur and require dismissal from moberly area technical center the student needs to be aware that funding and/or accrediting agencies will be notified in writing immediately and the student may also have legal action taken against him/her campussecurity moberly area technical center makes every effort to assure the safety of all students and employees although matc has no law enforcement authority any incidents or emergencies will be reported to the appropriate agencies to promote a safe and secure environment the technical center building is locked each evening and outside entrances and parking areas are lighted at night if you must bring valuables to school please keep them with you at all times locked security in a locker or secured in the career center office vehicles parked on campus should be kept locked any criminal actions or other emergencies should be reported to the director s office or the adult education coordinator s office immediately information on specific

statistics of criminal occurrences reported at matc can be obtained from the director s office upon request and will be received at the orientation at the beginning of the school year guidanceandplacement educational vocational career and personal counseling is available to all students individuals desiring an interest and/or aptitude assessment should contact the counseling office a counselor is available five days a week matc provides assistance to students and graduates in finding full or part-time employment the average rate of placement in the past three years has been 100 specific program placement varies and information is available in the counseling center office upon request emphasis is placed on student preparedness to enter the job market resume and interview preparation services are available to all students through the classroom instruction and the counseling center office studentconsumerinformation adultdaytimecareertechnicalprograms moberly area technical center serves both secondary students and adults in most programs each course is designed to provide a basic knowledge of skills required for entry-level employment full-time programs begin each fall courses may be one or two years in length adults receive training generally more advanced than secondary students this advanced level of training is achieved by offering the adult student the opportunity to progress at his or her individual level of independent learning competencies must be mastered at a higher level of mastery for adult students adult students obtaining funding through sources other than title iv such as vocational rehabilitation veterans j.t.p.a and gamm who qualify for mileage reimbursement shall have an agreement between the student and their funding source not the school school policy states the mileage reimbursement for our district is 30 per mile.

availablefundingsources grants pell grant funded through the u.s department of education eligibility based on family or personal financial situation the pell grant could be worth $4310 to students who have full eligibility veterans educational benefits for veterans of the armed forces or dependents of veterans of the armed forces contact veterans administration or adult education coordinator for application and information vocational rehabilitation for persons needing to train or retrain due to a handicapping condition preventing them from having employment success at their current level of training supply/tool lists are available to student if student is eligible to receive supplies at the cost of vocational rehabilitation contact vocational rehabilitation in columbia missouri or offices closer to your area job training partnership act jtpa income eligible persons may receive a grant to supplement that costs of tuition supplies and materials and may receive a needs based payment for living expenses supply/tool lists are available to student if student is eligible to receive supplies at the cost of j.t.p.a to apply contact the gamm project office near you or contact the financial aid office for more details rural missouri inc this program is for seasonal farm workers and their families who have received wages for farmwork orchard or nursery work in the last 2 years to apply contact the financial aid office futures available to persons who receive cash payments from afdc or adc futures may pay some tuition childcare transportation or other expenses to apply contact division of family services in your area new traditions available to help with tuition costs for displaced homemakers females ages 14-25 and single parents needing skills to re-enter into the workforce to apply contact the matc financial aid office gamm available to help with 50 of tuition costs for students in a middle to lowincome bracket applications are available in the financial aid office.

studenteligibilityrequirements student eligibility for financial aid that is available to all students enrolled attending and making satisfactory academic progress sap in a program leading to a certificate the student must also be a citizen sign various statements be registered with the selective service act and submit a financial aid transcript fat from all prior schools attended applying the federal student aid fiscal year begins on july 1 thus all students must apply each spring for the upcoming year utilizing the prior year income tax 1040 and asset information the student must obtain a financial aid packet from theschool financial aid officer the student and parent if dependent will then complete the fafsa free application for federal student aid and mail to address within results of the fafsa will be mailed to the student s home in about three weeks the student spouse or parents will review the results and submit the completed packet to the financial aid office this is called the needs analysis system amount/award of aid the amount of aid a student receives is determined by various indices on the needs analysis report a student s need is determined by subtracting the student/family contribution efc from the student s budget or cost of attendance notificationoffinancialaid the student will receive vocal and written notification of types and amount of aid expected and when it will be disbursed the aid award may be modified based on student file data or other aid received the school must resolve any conflicting data issues prior to the disbursing of financial aid disbursing financial aid federal regulations state that all aid must be disbursed in at least two payments to the school/student the first disbursement is about one month after the first day of class and the second is at the halfway point of the course or at the beginning of the second semester at the time the checks are received the financial aid officer verifies enrollment attendance and academic progress of the student if the student is in good standing the checks are then disbursed students are expected to first pay

school costs the fiscal officer and the financial aid officer work together in disbursing the financial aid award coordination of aid to prevent an overaward or overpayment by law the financial aid office must coordinate all financial aid received regardless of source to prevent an over award or overpayment of funds as the aid office must resolve any conflicting information any unresolved overpayments must be reported to the u.s department of education each financial aid recipient is required to pay back any overpayment of title iv and other financial aid due to dropping out of school prior to completion of training overpayment of funds made by school during the verification process false information and/or changing circumstances during the aid period which would affect eligibility and/or amount to be received dismissal from school due to misconduct suspension poor attendance and/or unsatisfactory academic progress dependent or independent status the reauthorization of the higher education act requires implementation of a new definition of independent student which is in effect for loan periods of enrollment beginning on or after january 1 1987 for 2010-2011 you are automatically considered an independent student if you were born before january 1 1974 is a veteran of the u.s armed forces are an orphan or ward of the court have legal dependents other than a spouse are married are enrolled in a graduate or professional educational program student budgets expected family contributions efc how are the expected family contributions calculated for a student who is dependent upon parents these resources would include the parents contribution and the student s contribution for the independent student the resources would include only the student s contribution and spouse s if any.

financial aid and your academic load during the academic year in which you receive aid your eligibility is governed by your academic load if you are not a full-time student you will not be eligible for the maximum awards for financial aid you must be enrolled at least half-time in order to be considered for any financial aid verification in order to receive financial aid administered through matc a student may be required to furnish documentation for verification of information provided on the financial aid application any student unable to provide this information will not receive financial aid students may be required to provide the financial aid office with copies of their parents 1040 or 1040a which was used to complete the various applications for assistance the student s 1040 or 1040a also must be submitted additional verification may be requested by the financial aid office in order to substantiate other information reported on the application items which are most often subject to verification include social security veterans benefits non-taxable income and interest income and asset amounts students must provide the financial aid office with documentation for verification prior to the disbursement of any title iv award if the student is unable to furnish the financial aid office with the appropriate documentation the application will not be processed if the verification procedure discloses information which will change the award to be received by the applicant the student will be requested to come to the financial aid office for a personal interview at that time the discrepancy will be discussed and the proper steps taken to correct the error if applicable the student will be required to resubmit the pell grant sar for corrections these items are the responsibility of the student not the financial aid office required verification items household size number of persons in the household number enrolled in postsecondary education number of household members attending a postsecondary educational institution at least halftime 6 credit hours for at least one term or 12 clock hours per week

adjusted gross income u.s.income tax paid untaxed income and benefits social security benefits child support untaxed payments to ira foreign income exclusion earned income credit interest on tax-free bonds other untaxed income included on the u.s income tax return required documentation for each of the required verification items specific documentation is acceptable and you will be required to provide such documentation the financial aid officer will determine what documentation is necessary the following items may be needed for verification the school application for enrollment/financial aid a financial aid transcript fat from each school previously attended regardless if aid was received a copy of yours if independent and/or parents if dependent official irs 1040s for current/prior years to prove citizenship a copy of your driver s license social security card and/or birth certificate a signed pell grant student aid report sar stating non-usage/manufacture of drugs not owing a refund of aid to another school not in default of a student loan use of financial aid funds for educational purposes required registration with the selective service agency a verification form completed and signed when pell grant index has an asterisk other information/documentation as requested to verify submitted data all required documentation must be in file prior to awarding and calculating financial aid for example the aid office may need verification of untaxed income or benefits i.e afdc food stamps veterans social security vocational rehabilitation and/or jtpa the agency will issue a computerized statement for your file studentverificationexpectation the law states that each school conduct a process called verification which is to substantiate confirm or to double check the accuracy of information provided to the department of education on the pell grant sar used to obtain indices for student aid funds regulations state that at least 30 of all applicants must be verified this school adheres to that policy and verifies those applicants showing a pgi

verificationprocedures student s whose sar pgi must submit certain information to the school for review and may be as follows completed and signed verification form student/parent signed official irs 1040 current/prior years documentation of untaxed income/benefits i.e afdc va ss any other information as requested time frame to submit information requested information must be submitted to the school s aid officer for review within a thirty 30 day time frame by student/parent request an extension of time will be granted up to six calendar weeks rightsandresponsibilities studentrights you have the right to know what financial aid programs are available at moberly area technical center the deadlines for submitting applications for each of the programs available how your financial need was determined this includes costs for tuition books supplies etc how the matc refund and repayment policies work how the financial aid office determines whether you are making progress and what happens if you are not satisfactory student responsibilities you must complete all applications accurately and submit them on time to the correct office if in doubt contact the adult education coordinator provide correct information in most instances reporting incorrect information on financial aid application forms is a violation of the law and may be considered a criminal offense which could result in indictment under the us criminal code return all additional documentation verification corrections and/or information requested by the matc be responsible for submitting any financial aid applications for corrections if errors exist or if verification discloses any discrepancies.

be responsible for reading and understanding all forms that you are asked to sign and for keeping copies of them accept responsibility for all agreements that you sign make satisfactory progress toward an educational objective notify the financial aid office of any change in address or financial situation selective service registration any student who is required to be registered with selective service and fails to register is ineligible for student financial assistance provided through programs established under title iv of the higher education act satisfactory academic progress satisfactory progress is made up of both doing well in school grades and regular attendance when grades fall below a c unless more rigid standards are specified by the program director the student will be placed on academic probation if the student does not show improvement of their grades within one month the student will be denied payment failure to achieve or maintain minimum academic standards will also result in notification of the federal aid program students who are denied financial aid must immediately set up a payment plan with the adult education coordinator if a student who has been denied payment of financial aid during a semester brings his/her grades up to an acceptable level financial aid will be reinstated the following semester specific procedures for appeal of a determination that a student is not making satisfactory academic progress must be initiated by the student within five working days attendance policy all adult students are expected to be in regular attendance and be on time for class this will promote habits of punctuality self-discipline and responsibility necessary for successful placements after enrollment at matc there is a direct relationship between poor attendance and class failure a copy of the student s attendance record will be maintained and available for inspection to the student and/or the accrediting agency students are subject to the moberly area technical center attendance and tardy policies 1 2 students will be limited to eight 8 absences per semester regardless of reason out-of-school suspension days are not considered part of the policy and will be considered separately.
