term 3 week 5 wednesday 31st august 2011 our school vision to provide a platform which launches enables students to make their own limitless choices tena koutou katoa greetings to you all social networking recently it has been brought to my attention that some of our students are being exposed to online abuse via their own home social network some of the material is personally derogatory and whilst you can block users and sites it is imperative that parents and caregivers regularly check these social websites eg facebook chats to ensure you know what is actually happening i would also suggest you check out the form and tone of the language your child is distributing and if it is acceptable to you these are real time conversations between two people right now to have a facebook page you must be thirteen years of age if you as a parent feel it is appropriate for your child to accelerate their age in order to have a facebook page then you must take responsibility to support their social behavior you parent must monitor who their friends are what they are saying and to whom every single day as a basic safety procedure computers should be in a central place for the family to see at all times not in their bedrooms with unlimited access from my observations and experience students don t understand that once any information is recorded on the internet it is there forever and it is accessible by whomever at ohaupo school our monitoring procedures are ohaupo school cyber-safety procedures are applicable to all students students not permitted in computer suite without an adult supervisor an internet filtering system and the ability to monitor sites visited facebook or chat sites not accessible to students at school the internet is a valuable tool when used properly as parents you need to communicate and monitor your online boundaries with your child or children speech evening friday the 9th of september 2011 mrs millington has been extremely busy organising the judges for our speech evening next friday students are busy presenting their speeches in class to see who will be one of the six representatives for their year level year 7 year 8 speeches will be judged this friday by mr ralph murray and myself all year levels will know who their finalists are by monday the 5th of september sue mclocklan principal week 5 friday 26 august school assembly 9am room 5 week 6 friday 9 september 5:30pm ohaupo school speech competition week 7 week 8 more important dates monday 26 sept optional parent interviews weds 5 october ag day thurs 13 oct group day in the school holidays monday 19 sept to monday 12 september gymnastics trip rms 2 3 friday 23 sept swimsafe rms 1 5 6:45pm bot meeting weds 21 sept friday 16 september gymnastics trip rms 1 5 t.a college testing 9am 11am phone 07 823 6736 fax 07 823 6732 email office@ohaupo.school.nz
