week 4 term 3 wednesday 24th august 2011 www.isleworth.school.nz information from the ministry of health measles symptoms 26 aug 12 sept 28-30 sep 6 oct 7 oct 25 oct 4 nov 15 dec what s happening 2011 daffodil day cultural concert year 5/6 camp school photos term 3 ends term 4 begins disco term 4 ends measles is a highly infectious disease and is more serious than many people realise symptoms include fever cough red eyes and a runny nose and then a rash which develops after about three days complications can include middle ear infections pneumonia and more rarely encephalitis or brain inflammation about one in ten people infected need to be hospitalised the best measles prevention is the measles mumps and rubella mmr vaccine which is free for all new zealand children .l oohcshtrow el si t a e mit l uf rednowaevah ll auoyepoh 1 moorot dr appehsdnalordna 3 moor ot r a gl abocaj 8 moor ot noswapa ki readnadrappehsog ai t 0 1 moor ot eohonod y r ett alfyebbadnaeel ei t a k 2 1 moor ot samohtnedy ar bdnatnargbokaj rekrapn ylt i a k r e ti urocram e m o cl ewew what schools can do prevent measles from spreading by 1 telling staff parents and caregivers about the measles outbreaks and that measles may spread to other parts of the country 2 updating your immunisation register all primary schools must keep an immunisation register under the health immunisation regulations 1995 this means you can quickly identify unimmunised children who have been in contact with someone with measles and help reduce the risk of measles spreading 3 ask parents and caregivers to make sure that their children s immunisations are up-to-date staff born during or after 1969 should also be vaccinated for measles 4 for school teams attending tournament week aug 22-26 all students and adults attending should check their measles immunisation status if they are not fully vaccinated ie 2 mmr vaccinations and are born after 1969 they should see their doctor or nurse to get immunised as soon as possible before the event unimmunised students who were exposed to measles in the two weeks prior to the event should not attend people with measles must stay home next pta fundraiser spring is coming time to have that big clear out and make some money at our school car boot sale which will be held in november sites will cost $15 per car more information to follow any student or teacher with measles must stay away from school for seven days from the appearance of the rash and until recovery depending on the advice of the medical officer of health unimmunised students or those with no immunity to measles who have been in close contact with a measles case during the infectious stages should stay away from school for 14 days from their last contact this requirement is under the health infectious and notifiable diseases regulations 1966 regulation 14 these exclusions also apply to students taking part in sporting events please follow the advice of the medical officer of health for more information visit the ministry of health website http www.moh.govt.nz or the immunisation advisory centre website http www.immune.org.nz you can also phone the immunisation advisory centre toll-free line 0800 immune 0800 466 863 for advice.

daffodil day friday 26th august this friday isleworth school will be supporting the day with a yellow and green mufti day gold coin donation in addition to the mufti day there will be daffodil badges for sale senior students from room 1 will visit each class on thursday and friday to give the children the opportunity to purchase these the cost of these is a gold coin there are also daffodil badges for sale in the school office this is an important charity as 1 in 3 people are affected by cancer in new zealand cultural festival aurora centre burnside high school monday 12th september at 7pm the isleworth school choir and kapa haka group will be performing at the cultural concert on 12 september tickets will be available to purchase for $5 at the school office but these tickets are limited so they will be sold on a first in basis in addition to this concert the choir and kapa haka will be putting on a mini performance on friday 9 september 11.30 in the school hall reminder for school resource fee and donation a number of term 1/2 resource fees are still outstanding could these be paid to the office as soon as possible resource fee is compulsory 70.00 per child per year or $17.50 per child per term this pays for all the pens pencils etc and any trips children go on as well as entertainers who come to school the donation is $40.00 per family for the year while this is a donation payment would be appreciated as this funds all the little extras that the ministry of education doesn t provide in our operational grant catch the latest news on our news blog www.isleworthschoolnews.blogspot.com
