2 new vege garden justin elliott iraia connors and joshua larnach have done a great job in restoring our vegetable garden the boys have revitalised the soil with loads of organic fertiliser and compost to promote gardening in schools the coffs harbour garden club has introduced a bean growing contest as part of their annual garden club competition the magic beans were delivered last week and the boys had lots of fun germinating and planting the seeds bulletin assembly class awards kg/l hayley duck elke bowles caleb rhodes zoe wilson 1d lucy kacsics gabby sullivan 1/2c isaac kelly joshua marsden 2m freya lindsay bree lily pickering 3/4m shyanne woodward ethan cooper 3ts rowan campbell jaydyn hoskins 4b luke condliffe caitlin reynolds 4/5jp melanie hughes angus dam isaac adams courtney miley 5/6f taylah hoskins mackie sonter-payne 6h samantha marr david schutt 3/4m won the harvey award tidy classroom was won by 6h environmental award went to 3/4m congratulations award winners you can almost hear the seeds growing well done boys seedlings were also planted this week the boys will be responsible for the maintenance of the garden during the coming weeks as part of their class project work we look forward to harvest time and sharing the produce with the canteen assembly item by 1d clarence valley interschool equestrian challenge hosted by grafton pony club if there are any interested riders you must have your own horse who would like to compete for boambee public school in the interschool equestrian challenge at hawthorne park minden street south grafton on 17,18 19 september 2011 please contact naomi thompson on 66584461 we already have 4 students who will be attending closing date for entries is friday 19th august 2011 in class we have been learning about how to be a good friend at assembly our class performed a dance called move your body and sang best friends forever we enjoyed practising our item and learning sign language we hope our performance made our mums and dads smile well done 1d

3 premier s reading challenge the countdown is on only two and a half weeks left before the 2011 premiers reading challenge finishes to be eligible for the official certificate from the nsw premier all reading logs need to be handed in to me by august 31st this week congratulations go to montana anderson ­ kl and clair crampton ­ 1/2c well done girls you will receive your school certificate at next weeks assembly mrs holden bulletin ambulance visit two weeks ago mrs de luca organised for dwayne to bring his ambulance to school to show kindergarten and year 1 we learnt about calling 000 in an emergency we also tried out some of things an ambulance officer might need to do to us if we were a patient so that we would not be scared hayley might need oxygen if she has asthma and is having trouble breathing dwayne checked albys pulse rate by putting a clip on his finger he put a neck brace on in case he had fallen and hurt his neck hockey gala day unfortunately the hockey gala day set down for next week has been cancelled if you have paid refunds have been sent home there may be a twilight competition after school in october for any students interested more information will follow sorry for any inconvenience ms musgrave sport ­ afl on wednesday over 100 students in kindergarten and stage one commenced a six week afl sports program two coaches aaron and rod from afl nsw/act actively involved the students in fun skills based activities involving punting hand passing and catching all students who had returned a permission note participated in the activities if you would like your child to complete the six week program and receive the backpack and ball the option of paying $24 in instalments prior to the completion of the program is still available or student assistance funds can be applied for please contact the office for the form both coaches commented on the excellent behaviour exhibited by our students we bet that liams and lianas mums hope that this never happens jacob and max could stand up in the ambulance declan tried out the heart monitor it goes on with press studs that are stuck to your skin it gave a print out of his heart beat amelia learnt how to make the lights flash and the siren sound maybe she will be an ambulance officer one day thank you dwayne and mrs de luca.

4 book week and book fair book week is during week 6 from the 22nd to the 26th of august with the theme one world many stories at boambee school we will be holding a book fair during that week and on monday 22 august we will be having a mufti day based around the stories children have been examining in class and in the library this term see attached note for all the details thank you mrs thompson librarian bulletin it would be a great help if vouchers could be stapled into lots of 10 a collection box is in the front office so start collecting now this weekend double vouchers apply friday saturday and sunday 2012 kindergarten enrolments being taken now enrolments are now being taken for 2012 kindergarten classes it is important that the school has early information about enrolments to assist with planning and distribution of information regarding kindergarten orientation programs early in term 3 if you are intending to enrol your child or know of families who are considering enrolment please contact the office as soon as possible boambee kindergarten expo a boambee kindergarten expo will be open to 2012 kinder parents on thursday 25th of august this is for parents only providing the time to gather information about getting yourself and your child ready for school this will be followed by two student transition days in term 3 on thursday 1st of september and thursday 15th of september coming events weeks 5 6 please note the coming events on your calendar tuesday 16.8.11 ­ icas mathematics school mini fete and major raffle mini fete change of date friday 11th of november raffle tickets that have been sold can be returned to the office we appreciate your assistance and support in the sale of these tickets as all proceeds raised will go towards improved technology and the purchase of interactive whiteboards for our school 1st prize a brand new madness surfboard valued over $400 2nd prize $100 coles voucher 3rd prize $50 coles voucher all tickets are $1 each and should be returned to school no later than friday 11th november the day of our mini fete thank you michael hepi school mini fete ­ coloured sand if anyone has any glass jars with lids they would like to get rid of please send them in to mrs holden to be used on the coloured sand stall jars need to be clean with labels removed we are looking for all types of jars ­ although no bigger than about 440g as the large ones are harder to fill baby food jars are a great size thank you mrs holden coles sports for schools after our fantastic success last year our school is once again participating in the coles sports for schools promotion all families have to do is collect the vouchers every time they shop at coles for every $10 you spend you receive 1 voucher wednesday 17.8.11 ­ hockey gala day has been cancelled monday 22.8.11 ­ book week begins monday the 22nd is a whole school dress up day information sent home week 4 with newsletter thursday 25.8.11 ­ kinder expo parents information 10.00am friday 26.8.11 ­ north coast athletics carnival special canteen meal deal veggie burger with any salad chilli sauce and/or sour cream optional plus ice cup all for only $3.00 thanks terri canteen roster wed 17august leanne larnach jim gorman vicki totzl thur 18 august lindi styles melissa mcinally fri 19 august susan dean-hickey steve wiggins bingo news every tuesday evening eyes down at 7.30pm coffs ex services club come along and support your school more volunteers desperately needed and always welcome volunteer enquiries karen aranyi 0427098300 16 august team 4 trudy thomson frieda gorman
