what s in the newsletter this week staffing changes literacy support programmes the hub calendar news parkland stars of the week assembly roster term 3 secondhand uniforms parent/family e mail addresses swimming stp conferences reports punctuality netball tournament whanau/family support meeting scooters at school parent help required parkland pride puzzler dear parents welcome back to term 3 doesn t two weeks zip by our school roll has now reached over 300 we have places available for ten out of zone students at present however staffing changes a due to our new entrant roll we have been able to open room 1 mrs angela mckinnon will teach in room 1 until the end of this year all new entrants who start school between now and the end of the year will begin in room 1 b towards the end of the term miss cravino will leave to have her baby mrs bridget higson will then take over in room 10 until the end of the year c mrs anna ousey will act as the junior team leader until the end of this year when miss cravino finishes d jenny humphreys in the library has extended her leave and helen willacy has kindly agreed to continue relieving in this part time position until the end of this year peter barnett principal

literacy support programmes any additional learning support programmes are reliant on the school having sufficient additional staffing to run them this term we have been able to introduce the following support programmes 1 junior literacy support programme focusing mainly on year 2 students this will operate three days each week and will provide additional reading support for these children rainbow reading has now been extended to the senior school for this term only lexia reading will now operate in the afternoons as well on mon-thurs this will be run by volunteer parents many thanks to those that are giving up their valuable time 2 3 the hub www.parkland.school.nz to find 1 the term calendar on the home page go down the menu to `what s happening go across to `term calendar 2 important notices on the home page just below the parkland school name is a heading called `news centre click on this to read any important or last minute notices cancellations etc

parkland stars of the week congratulations to jenna shapleski from room 4 who did extremely well over the holidays at the manawatu performing arts competition jenna gained a second place in the character recital and a very highly commended in the poem assembly roster term 3 throughout the course of the year all classes are provided with an opportunity to host our school assembly the roster for this term is week 2 week 4 week 6 room 14 room 9 room 5 week 8 week 10 room 2 room 6 school uniforms second hand there is a selection of uniform items for sale go to the school s website www.parkland.school.nz on the home page go down the menu on the left hand side to `parent information go across and down the sub menu until you get to `second hand uniforms please remember that school shoes need to be black parent/family e mail addresses now that the `parkland hub is up and running we would like to update our e mail address records we do not have email addresses for quite a number of our families could you please complete the tear-off below or email office@parkland.school.nz with your child s name in the subject line family e mail address child/children e mail address :

swimming we are currently organising 2011 swimming our school swimming programme begins on monday september 5th enclosed with this newsletter is a `parent swimming survey that will enable you to provide us with valuable information about the swimming capabilities of your child/ren these need to be returned by monday so that staff can place your child/ren in an appropriate group each group will then be taken by a qualified swimming instructor at the freyberg pool the cost of swimming this year will be notified in the next newsletter but there will be an increase in cost this year stp conferences mid year reports thank you to everyone who was able to attend the stp conferences at the end of term 2 91 of our families participated which is very pleasing teachers will be following up with anyone who could not attend on either of the nights available we would be interested in gaining feedback from parents on the mid year reports any comments or suggestions can be emailed to principal@parkland.school.nz it is more than likely that these will continue to evolve as we always want to improve what we do does the report tell you in plain english where your child is and what they need to do in order to move to the next level are you aware of things you can do at home to help this learning punctuality school begins at 8.50am a reminder that every child should be `ready for learning by 8.50am each school day anyone not present as the bell rings is marked either absent or late at the moment we have too many junior children who are arriving after the bell.

netball tournament lets hope the weather stays fine for sunday august 7th we have three teams entered in the future ferns tournament whanau/family support meeting we will be holding a whanau family support meeting at school on thursday august 25th at 7pm the purpose of this meeting is to explore the level of interest amongst parents for parkland school to establish a whanau/family support group all parkland families are most welcome to attend there will be a video operating for children if parents wish to bring them scooters at school the pe shed will no longer be available for children to leave their scooters in these need to be left tidily in the bike racks outside room 4 on the grass they are not to be left in cloak bays or backrooms please we are investigating a scooter rack where children can lock their scooters if they wish all scooters must be named please parent help required term 3 monday tuesday wednesday thursday afternoons from 2pm 2.45pm to supervise children two at a time on an online junior literacy programme training will be given volunteer for a set day or days or on a casual basis your contribution could help a child learn to read contact lyn white in room 2 or l.white@parkland.school.nz parkland pride puzzler question what form does every person need to complete and return to school by monday answer clue might have something to do with h2o name room:
