t2 wk 10 6 july 2011 from debbie hi everyone we are underway with the life education programme don t forget to ask your children what they have been learning with harold i am looking forward to our red socks day this friday it will be good to have some fun at this end of the term when everyone is feeling a bit weary of course the children will have heaps of energy and enthusiasm for the te kawau netball disco later on friday afternoon/early evening what a great way to finish the week new junior playground thank you to the many families who have got back to us about the working bee for the junior playground at this stage i am also working on seeing if we can get some help from the community services teams so i will be able to get back to you shortly about times and days ict student-led conference last friday we had four of our students who presented at an ict conference for children the event was held at lytton st school and was attended by students from schools in feilding and palmerston north the conference is about giving children the opportunity to share what they are doing with ict in their classrooms and an opportunity to teach others how to use specific learning tools special thanks to annalyse and daphne who presented movie maker and to grace and logan who presented artisancam comics the school was presented with a digital camera as a thank-you for having the children present 31 ways to change the world by 4386 children recycle your toys there are lots of forgotten toys in new zealand unused unloved under the be it doesn t have to be this way give them away swap them love your toys and when you re done lovin set them free.

from the children from awesome aces what is photosynthesis did you know photosynthesis is probably the most important process in the world and it happens every day have you ever wondered how it actually happens well firstly the process requires water carbon dioxide and sunlight secondly the water is collected in the plant through the roots thirdly the carbon dioxide [co2 enters through tiny pores on the plant called stomata fourthly the sun is absorbed in the chloroplasts by the chlorophyll so it can mix with the water and oxygen once these are mixed together it produces glucose which is sugar you use this to make starch and proteins it also makes water and oxygen humans and animals are dependent on photosynthesis as it provides oxygen for us to breath photosynthesis is also dependent on us as we breathe out carbon dioxide up coming events wednesday 6 july thur 7 july life ed van no assembly this week mon 4 8 july red socks week thurs 14 july bot meeting friday 15 july assembly 2.30 friday 15 july term ends 1 august term 2 starts te kawau netball disco rongotea memorial hall friday 8 july 2011 starting at 5.30pm till 8.30 pm cost is $2.00 per child for all saturday morning rugby and netball players and also school children from years 1-8 chips and drinks will be on sale for enquiries phone catherine maxwell 3248812 brayden how does a bike work the bike is the most efficient way of transport ever invented it transforms your energy into movement but how does it work your feet push the pedals around the chain which makes it go round the chain turns the back wheel the back wheel makes the bike go and the handlebars steer the front wheel the parts of a bike are seat back wheel spokes chain pedals frame handlebars brakes tyres wheel bikes are cool fun they re quicker than walking you can go a long way before you get tired on a bike making a bike a cheap form of transport tasmin bikes bikes are pretty cool vehicles you might not think of them as vehicles but just like car and trucks and planes they transport people from one place to another the really cool thing is that they are entirely people powered they don t use gas or electricity if you use the pedals you can go there is a seat to sit on and there is a body frame for all the parts to go on to stop you have brakes you have back brakes the back brakes are on the back wheel the back wheel makes the bike move and the handlebars steer the front wheel biking is something you and your family can do together it s good exercise ethan community notices help child care needed for our 6 year old boy for wednesdays and thursdays afterschool until 5pm he normally travels on the bus but will need to be collected from school if not on the bus run contact alice 3248 377 page 2 red socks leadership day friday 8 july is red socks day rongotea school will be participating in red socks day by holding a range of leadership discussions across the school the theme of red socks day is based on sir peter blake s idea that wearing red socks was good luck during the america s cup challenge of 1995 so we are taking the opportunity to have a wear red mufti day and talk leadership please dig deep into wardrobes as rongotea school goes red for the day.
