taking part in discussions about ways we can improve the way we get and use feed back from our school community see last week s newsletter for details this will be a relatively informal discussion seeking your ideas about ways we can move forward in this area basketball milson had another excellent win against college street tigers 32 4 with an incredible first quarter milson shot out to a big lead early and controlled the game from there jacob smiler picked up player of the day for the second time this year with some excellent shooting and defence jayden taylor was also player of the day from the previous weeks win against linton 24 -12 milson remains undefeated after nine games and continues to lead the competition with only two teams they have yet to face over the last couple of weeks room 6 and 10 have been focusing on mori culture so here is a summary of what we did and learnt when we visited woodville marae first four people had to do a karanga/call after the call whaea maryann invited us into the wharenui when we walked in whaea told us different stories about carvings and tokutoku panels just before we were

next week tuesday 12th weather permitting will be winter tournament for kauri team pupils we will be travelling by bus and the cost for this is being covered from school funds a separate notice came home about this recently however we are short of parent helpers to act as team managers in particular we need another manager for each of these sports netball soccer touch and miniball we also have some volunteers who can t make the postponement date thursday 14th so if some could offer for that day that would also be helpful if you can assist please let katrina know on friday or you could email her also on kmollet@milson.school.nz without this assistance our school participation might not be possible as many will be aware we currently have lots of pupils with various sicknesses the following are things we need to have happen:a please ensure the school knows before 9 am that your child is going to be away you can either phone the school office 3585204 or txt on 027 362 5008 because we try to contact all families when children are absent without any notification this can mean a lot of time by office staff ringing parents b please note however that if we don t get hold of you we are still required to record why a child is absent so if your child is away for any reason and you have been unable to let the school know then on the first day your child returns to school they need to bring a note explaining the reason for the absence c in future a letter will be sent home asking for an explanation if this note is not received at present if no explanation is given the child is eventually marked down as being truant over time

this could lead to the involvement of the truancy service to find out why a child has not been attending please help us keep the records correct that we have at school by letting us know the reasons for any time your child is absent you may wonder why i have listed a meeting in coming events for room 7 parents a number of parents from room 7 have volunteered to trial the use of our new web site and give us feedback about it as well as highlighting any glitches before we go out to the wider parent community next term we will be making the new site public but we hope to smooth out the wrinkles before making parts of it more widely available we aim to give all parents the opportunity to be aboard nearer the end of term 3 asb banking just a reminder that deposits will now be made on thursdays and not wednesdays as it has been in the past faber-castell colouring contest we have run out of the colouring contest forms but if your child would like to participate a form can be downloaded from www.faber-castell.co.nz/downloads completed forms get sent directly to faber castell box 58 574 botany auckland 2163.
