subject codes to use for entering marks and comments the following subject codes appear in the list on the mark entry screen and are used for entering marks and comments grades 1 to 6 esis code subject eng16 fsl16 mat16 sci16 soc16 phe16 music visual arts drama and dance media literacy optional box subject english french as a second language mathematics science and technology social studies physical health education esis code mus16 vis16 dra16 med16 opt16 subject english french as a second l mathematics science and technology history geography grades 7 and 8 esis code subject eng78 fsl78 mat78 sci78 his78 geo78 physical health education music visual arts drama and dance media literacy optional box esis code phe78 mus78 vis78 dra78 med78 opt78 note in primary grades the english teacher can enter the fsl16 subject to select the na box the english teacher can also use the fsl16 box to enter additional english comments subject codes to avoid the following subject codes should never be used when entering marks and comments art16 this is just a placeholder for the arts report card box which contains visual arts music and drama/dance use vis16 or mus16 or dra16 instead for entering marks and comments this is just a placeholder for the arts report card box which contains visual arts music and drama/dance use vis78 or mus78 or dra78 instead for entering marks and comments gr1to6 gr7to8 note homeroom teachers should access art16 or art78 to fill in the esl ell iep or french box for the arts art78 these are placeholders telling esis which version of the report card to use they are not used for mark or comment entry 6 visit techtalk.ddsbschools.ca for video tutorials and other esis report card support materials email questions to reportcards_support@durham.edu.on.ca

entering marks learning skills entered here do not appear on the report card they are only to assist the homeroom teacher marks are entered one student at a time keyboard arrow keys can be used to move down the student list 1 if you teach a split grade choose the correct grade from the drop down box beside grade 2 click on a student name keyboard arrow keys may be used to navigate up and down the student list 3 click into the desired mark box and enter the mark enter marks in the current marking period box 4 when entering the grade use numeric grades e.g 60 70 80 etc or letter grades e.g a a a r etc a drop down menu of grade choices can be accessed by clicking in a mark box and pressing f9 on the keyboard 5 the shift key is not required to create capital letters when entering letter grades the tab key may be used to move from strand to strand or shifttab to go backwards 6 check off applicable additional information boxes e.g esl esd french etc 7 rotary teachers may choose to fill in the learning skills for each subject area these will not appear on the report card but will appear for the homeroom teacher to assist in assigning the final learning skills values 8 click save every time you finish a comment or leave the computer 7 visit techtalk.ddsbschools.ca for video tutorials and other esis report card support materials email questions to reportcards_support@durham.edu.on.ca

entering comments for individual students to get to this screen choose mark entry click ok select subject click students 1 click the student s name 2 click comment book 3 click district comments 4 use the 3 pulldown menus to isolate desired comments by · · · category grade subject all elementary subjects begin with elem level 5 click query to open the window that appears on the next page · comment lists can be narrowed further by querying a specific word for example press f7 enter %measur then press f8 to only show comments containing the words measure measuring measurement measured etc cursor keys on the keyboard allow scrolling through the whole comment the home key takes you to beginning of the comment the end key takes you to the end of the comment some district comments are split into two parts these are identified at the beginning with the curriculum expectation number · · 8 visit techtalk.ddsbschools.ca for video tutorials and other esis report card support materials email questions to reportcards_support@durham.edu.on.ca

preview window 6 click select to enter a highlighted comment into the preview window click inside the preview window and press enter this will take you to the next line now enter another comment from the top window if you wish by clicking on it and clicking on select you may enter as many comments as needed into this preview window space permitting each additional comment will append itself to the end of the previous comment you can also edit the comments or type directly into the preview window 7 click the clear button to eliminate the whole comment 8 click transferappend to add the comment from the preview window to the end of any existing comments already entered in that subject 9 only use transferoverwrite to replace all comments already entered for that subject with the comment that appears in the preview window use with caution 10 click save on the mark entry screen for all teachers when all marks and comments have been entered check the `mark entry is complete box for primary teachers to open the french language box for additional english comments 1 select the french subject and check off the n/a box 2 enter the additional english comments in this space do not enter a grade 9 visit techtalk.ddsbschools.ca for video tutorials and other esis report card support materials email questions to reportcards_support@durham.edu.on.ca

querying to apply the same comment to multiple students 1 save before doing a new query 2 click in the mark box of the subject for flagging hit f7 to begin a query the screen will go blank at this point 3 enter the mark range for the desired query by using as a wild card two examples follow · enter b to query all students with b b and b · enter 7 to query for all students with marks from 70 to 79 the screen will go blank when f7 is used to begin a query this is normal e nter the query then press f8 4 hit f8 to execute the query and show all students with that mark 5 click the all checkbox to select all the listed students 6 click comment book and follow the steps from pages 910 of this manual to create preview comment 7 click transferappend to apply the comment from the preview window to all the flagged students 8 only use transferoverwrite to replace all comments already entered for that subject with the comment that appears in the preview window use with caution important notes about querying · two queries will be needed for intermediate teachers to assign comments to all level 4 students ­ one for 8 to flag students with 8089 and one for 9 to flag students with 9099 deselect the list of students by checking off the all button to restore the original full class list of students hit f7 and then f8 it is possible to query more specifically ie enter b instead of b to flag students more precisely · · · 10 visit techtalk.ddsbschools.ca for video tutorials and other esis report card support materials email questions to reportcards_support@durham.edu.on.ca

entering learning skills values 1 from the mark entry screen select the correct reporting period and click learning skills note learning skills must be entered one student at a time querying is not possible 2 select the correct reporting period 3 select your homeroom the student list will populate when a homeroom is selected 4 select the grade with split grades each grade will need to be selected separately learning skills entered in a specific subject by a rotary teacher will appear here for the homeroom teacher s reference only 5 click the first student and enter their term learning skills e.g e g s or n click the tab key to apply the first learning skill mark entered to all boxes if you do not wish to have the same letter populate all boxes start from the right and work backwards towards to the left the learning skills appear in the following order code iw in hc ui co cr cp ps gs learning skill independent work initiative homework completion use of information cooperation with others conflict resolution class participation problem solving goal setting to improve work 11 visit techtalk.ddsbschools.ca for video tutorials and other esis report card support materials email questions to reportcards_support@durham.edu.on.ca

3 click on my comments option and ensure all choices are selected 4 click on my comments 5 click on add to enter comments wild card symbols will enter the students name and apply correct pronouns 6 enter a chronological number into the code field press the tab key to enter the description field which is the actual comment enter the comment by typing or pasting from another source ie a previous eteacher comment bank into the description field press the tab key to move into the report card field it may be useful in this field to enter the grade level for the comment being created press the tab key to move into the subject field select the applicable subject elementary code from the drop down menu press the tab key to move into the level field select the appropriate level from the drop down press the f10 key to save the comment or click on the save button 7 click on the add button to add a new comment proceed in this manner until a complete comment bank has been created 14 visit techtalk.ddsbschools.ca for video tutorials and other esis report card support materials email questions to reportcards_support@durham.edu.on.ca
