Saturday 11th June Evening Carmel Bird Carmel first trod the boards at Altrincham Garrick over 40 years ago and has since been involved in many theatrical projects all over the North West. She studied Drama as a mature student at Chester University, working with all aspects of practical theatre and went on to perform with a professional theatre company, her favourite production being an avant-garde adaptation of Strindberg’s ‘Miss Julie’. She subsequently toured Northern universities with a Liverpool-based theatre company, performing and leading workshops and then went on to teach A’ Level Drama at Xaverian College in Manchester. Carmel has always had a strong commitment to youth drama and has directed and choreographed 17 college productions, mainly popular musicals and Shakespeare plays. She has also worked for local and national drama schools and now runs the Carmel Bird Theatre School in Cheadle Hulme. Throughout all this Carmel has maintained her involvement in amateur theatre and has acted in over 50 productions and directed for several groups. She is delighted to be adjudicating the GMDF One Act Festival again and is looking forward to seeing a variety of genres and styles. Players Dramatic The Last Panto in Little Grimley By David Tristram Gordon Margaret Bernard Joyce JOHN PRICE ANGELA DUNN CHRIS JORGENSSON AMANDA PIERCE Directed by John Price Scene: A village hall Entered in Section C After this play’s adjudication there will be a short interval followed by presentation of the awards listed overleaf. The Greater Manchester Drama Federation (GMDF) is recognised as one of the leading associations representing amateur theatre in the North West of England. The GMDF's affiliated network alone makes it one of the largest regional organisations of its type and its Full Length Festival is probably the largest drama festival to be held in Europe. As you are reading this, you will already know that we also hold a prestigious, long established, annual, week long, One Act Festival. The Board of Management comprises some 10 people, all of whom give their services free of charge to the Federation and through a network of society liaison officers provide advice and assistance regarding all aspects of amateur theatre.
