rhinelander area summer family fun guide 2011 special events at the rhinelander district library continued tuesday july 26th the great library worm race 1:00 to 2:30 pm at wiggley field the library lawn registration at 1:00 pm with racing beginning at 1:30 pm sign up with a partner by july 22 and coach a worm to the finish line we will supply the worms preschoolers may either be partnered with an adult or by a school-age child capable of reading and following directions sign up immediately limit of 60 teams sponsored by the northwoods lion s club thursday july 28th preschool picnic in the park 10:30 am to noon at pioneer park come and join us at pioneer park for music and fun bring your lunch and we ll provide drinks and a dessert registration required sponsored by the rhinelander district library foundation nicolet college college camp june 13th through june 19th college camp is a five-day experience for students entering grades 6-9 students participate in two classes each day for all five days of camp this experience will enhance your child s awareness of the exciting careers that await him/her in the world of work including a special emphasis on careers involving science technology engineering and math skills each student will gain hands-on experience in two career fields learn about entry-level skills for these career fields and college programs experience a college campus setting and have a great time register at 715 365-4550 by june 6th time 8:00 am ­ 12:15 pm 7:30am start on first day only cost $80 includes t-shirt students with special needs are encouraged to attend this program call 715 365-4580 to let us know how to accommodate your student s special needs lego camp july 11th through july 14th kids will have a blast this summer at lego® camp using unique lego® kits students will creatively build and modify machines while learning basic engineering principals nicolet college has partnered with all about learning to provide this educational opportunity to teach science technology engineering and math stem register at 715 365-4544 by june 17th revised may 26 2011 page 7

rhinelander area summer family fun guide 2011 nicolet college continued junior engineering for students in grades 1-3 teaches the concepts of engineering simple machines forces in motion problem solving and communication 9:00 am ­ 1:00 pm at nicolet college cost $114 includes t-shirt and light snack collision cars for students in grades 4-6 students will learn a variety of concepts including basic engineering principles gearing and gear ratios electric motors and energy problem solving and communication skills time 1:00 ­ 4:00 pm at nicolet college cost $114 includes t-shirt and light snack kids kayak with a twist outdoor adventure series of nicolet college sessions to be held vandercook lake arbor vitae wednesday july 20th a fun afternoon of on the water as we play paddle games swim and laugh the afternoon away with two experienced outdoor adventure kayak instructors and their daughters kids will enjoy kayaking and stand up paddling lessons with all kinds of boats provided create a northwoods memory and learn a life skill at the same time lunch and snacks are provided 9 am ­ noon kids only session ages 7-12 class 10097 fee with rental $25 1 pm ­ 3 pm parents and kids one child only ages 3-6 class #10098 fee with rental $25 early tomahawk ­ revisiting the waters outdoor adventure series of nicolet college tuesday august 16th from 3:00 to 7:00 pm meet at sara park in tomahawk take a historical paddle to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of tomahawk 125 years ago tomahawk was the end of the railroad and travelers continued their journeys along the river often by barge or rowboat people are invited to join us for an educational paddle along the same riverbanks while listening to local tales a founders feast featuring a turn of the century favorites menu will be created at the park where the bradley boat train landed all canoes and kayaks are welcome and may carry children at no additional charge limited spots will also be available in the lead barge pontoon for those unable to paddle revised may 26 2011 page 8
