jhs 185q mr dilallo dear parent/guardian and student i would like to introduce myself as the science teacher who will be responsible for your child s continual educational growth here at jhs 185q enclosed you will find an overview of course content expectations grading system and code of conduct communication is essential between the home and the classroom in order to ensure optimal academic and personal growth for every student so please feel free to contact me at anytime as i hope you would allow me to do the same thank you course the following is a brief outline of what this course entails students will be expected to demonstrate a firm grasp of this knowledge through written and oral assessments as well as hands-on laboratory exercises 6th grade scientific method simple complex machines weather diversity of life 7th grade scientific method geology interaction between matter and energy dynamic equilibrium the human anatomy dynamic equilibrium other organisms 8th grade scientific method reproduction heredity and evolution forces and motion on earth earth sun moon system interdependence humans in their environment materials thin 3-ring binder #2 pencil and a blue or black ink pen folder loose leaf paper grading tests 40 quizzes 20 homeworks 20 class participation behavior 10 labs 10 quizzes every week there will be at least one quiz given in place of the do now it may be announced or given as a pop quiz homework homework is assigned at least four times a week homework assignments may be one of the following 1 reading/written assignment from text or notes 2 project 3 study for test or quiz 4 complete class work 5 outside reading homework is collected randomly they are graded on a scale of zero to four.

attendance i strongly urge all students not to miss class but as life would have it we all get sick and have serious personal matters in an effort not to have any students falling behind if a student is to be out for an extended period of time please call me so alternative arrangements can be made all homework assignments can be viewed for the week by logging onto www.jhs185.org homework may not be made up unless the child is ill or unless i am notified about a personal matter it will be due on the day they return from class missed tests/quizzes will also be given on the day a child returns to class all students are responsible for missed notes but missed worksheets/handouts will be provided code of conduct i expect all students to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner anything less will be unacceptable the following outlines appropriate behaviors and the classroom rules act in an appropriate manner no calling out no excessive talking no gum chewing no leaving your seat w/o permission no eating or drinking in class no verbal abuse always be prepared enter and leave quietly be on time if you repeatedly come late to class your parent or guardian will be notified along with the school administration sit only in assigned seats immediately begin working on the do now when entering class if one is presented when handing in assignments always list your name date and section no passes will be given unless it is an emergency no hats bandanas or hoods will be worn at any time in school no unauthorized electronics such as ipods gaming devices and cell phones are permitted if i see it i will take it it s that simple contact info for any concerns and/or questions please contact me though school email at www.jhs185.org or leave a message through the school s main office at 718 445-3232 sincerely joseph a dilallo cut along dotted line please fill out the slip below and return it back to class name of student print name of parent/guardian print work/daytime phone number signature of parent/guardian
