welcome message from the earcos board president dear delegates welcome to the 2010 earcos leadership conference beautiful kota kinabalu malaysia beckons us to gather together for a few days pausing amidst our busy school schedules for that all-too-rare opportunity to learn from and with one another our intrepid earcos office crew led by our dynamic ceo dick krajczar has done a wonderful job arranging this event as a result i think we are in for another earcos treat asia continues to be a booming region and is certainly an exciting place to be in 2010 the eyes of the world are increasingly upon us as the locus of economic power shifts to our host continent despite a global recession our schools are mostly thriving with a rising number of families seeking an international education the schools in our membership and the enrollment of students that we serve are on the rise all of this underscores our need to be wise stewards of the resources that we manage and the communities that we lead the earcos board once again listened to our membership and discovered that a mounting dialogue is happening about the future of education as the volume of information that can be learned increases dramatically and the tools that we have to access it become more powerful we are rightly questioning what our schools should be doing differently both now and in the future the earcos leadership conference theme a place called school in 2030 frames our desire to have important conversations about how we might envision the future needs of our students two decades from now if our global society and the planet that houses it continues to change at its current rate it is safe to assume that our schools will need to dramatically adapt perhaps unrecognizably from what they are right now with the impressive slate of keynote speakers and workshop leaders that dick and bill have assembled we think we have ample leadership for some fascinating conversations about what schools of 2030 might be yong zhao allan odden and charlotte danielson have provided insightful leadership for educators in the past and we think they will help set the stage for our thinking about the future as always your colleagues will then help you to integrate and apply these ideas so that you can go back and enhance the learning in your schools so let s all embrace this opportunity soak in the beauty of our conference setting and let it all inspire us to have some potentially transformational conversations together warmly president earcos board jakarta international school tim carr dear delegates tim carr president earcos board welcome to the earcos leadership conference elc 2010 and the sutera harbour resort the theme a place called school in 2030 will be a major discussion point in
