the earcos board members about earcos the east asia regional council of overseas schools is an organization of 116 member schools in east asia these schools have a total of more than 82,000 pre-k to 12th grade students and over 9,000 teachers and administrators earcos also has 111 associate members textbook and software publishers and distributors universities financial planners architectural firms insurance companies youth organizations etc and over 21 individual members membership in earcos is open to elementary and secondary schools in east asia which offer an educational program using english as the primary language of instruction and to other organizations institutions and individuals interested in the objectives and purposes of the council tim carr president sean o maonaigh vice president general information deidre fischer secretary tom hawkins treasurer ann fowles director at large earcos holds one administrators conference every november and one teachers conference every march.in addition earcos funds several weekend institutes hosted by member schools throughout east asia earcos also organizes a meeting for earcos heads of schools every april earcos publishes its newsletter the earcos triannual which is distributed to its members three times a year and a directory of all of its members objectives and purposes to promote intercultural understanding and international friendship through the activities of member schools to broaden the dimensions of education of all schools involved in the council in the interest of a total program of education to advance the professional growth and welfare of individuals belonging to the educational staff of member schools to facilitate communication and cooperative action between and among all associated schools brent mutsch director at large tom farrell director at large ben norton director at large connie buford regional education officer east asia to cooperate with other organizations and individuals pursuing the same objectives as this council earcos staff dick krajczar executive director bill oldread asst director vitz baltero elaine repatacodo administrative assistant etc conference coordinator eac conference coordinator ver castro membership coordinator it coordinator edzel drilo webmaster/newsletter weekend workshops robert viray accountant

welcome message from the executive director dear etc delegates welcome to the earcos teachers conference etc 2010 at international school manila we would like to thank david toze and the ism staff for the use of their great campus and dick robbins of brent school manila for providing all the bus transportation for our conference it has been a cooperative effort shown by both schools and their leadership and we applaud the effort this is the first time in etc s eight-year history that it is being hosted on a school campus the campus setting has enabled us to provide more intense coverage in specialty areas of physical education art dance technology and counseling we may adjust our future venues to include a campus setting every three years to allow for this kind of coverage to continue with the world economic situation it is prudent that earcos holds cost in check put allows for quality professional development the etc has three excellent keynote presenters with taylor mali alan november and john joseph we have 12 preconference offerings and 116 workshop sessions geared to meet our teachers needs in addition our job-a-like sessions will provide an opportunity for teachers to meet with their colleagues who work in similar areas etc will have a record number of 76 teacher workshop sessions which are always practical and well presented please support your fellow teachers students will again be highlighted with our general sessions having an earcos global citizen student from ism the brent school dance team and the 2009 shanghai/earcos film festival winner earcos has great talent so support our students and be on time for each general session thanks to all our etc teacher representatives who have spent many hours assisting our teachers with workshops registration for the conference and hotel and transportation arrangements without their dedication it would be impossible to host our conference the way we do thanks also to our earcos staff members who have worked endless hours to assist with the many details and logistics the contributions of elaine vitz ver edzel and robert with their attention to detail is commendable our new assistant director bill oldread has been invaluable we know his first etc will be memorable finally it is always my wish for our delegates to make good contacts be challenged by our presenters renew friendships and enjoy our hospitality visit our exhibitors and let them know that we appreciate their sponsorship that helps us provide the best i m proud and happy to be the director of this wonderful organization dick krajczar earcos executive director 2 earcos teachers conference 2010 manila philippines

preconferences thursday 25 march 2010 8:30-16:30 ma eleanor barlongay approach to making a dance strand this workshop will teach a group exercise class by creating choreography developing modifications and variations and breakdown choreography the workshop will begin with a sample class review of basic movements and exploring the different elements of dance please wear comfortable clothing which allows you to move freely megan campisi page to stage turning english and history curriculum into theater strand experience the step-by-step process to transform an historical event and a short story into short ­but rich pieces of theater the devising process activates english and history curriculum while developing skills of ensemble work deep observation constructive feedback and artistic expression leave prepared to guide students through the process lynne coleman teachers as critical friends facilitators leading engaged collaborative groups in focused powerful learning we will look at teachers as stewards of students learning ­ and their own participants will examine the work of both students and teachers to determine how is it that students and adults learn we will further experience how processes and protocols can help support productive and efficient learning in the school and community through the day participants will 1 learn and practice strategies to build and facilitate teams among peers and in classrooms 2 select from among a variety of protocols to design and facilitate effective efficient agendas for team meetings 3 practice ways to put learners students and adults in the center in order to improve the learning of all 4 learn and practice ways of looking at student learning data that provides focus and power to the work of teaching and learning note participants are encouraged to bring an assignment assessment or unit they are working on but have not completed they will have an opportunity to volunteer this real in-progress work for the purpose of tapping the group for ideas and suggestions for further development jennifer delos reyes with mark kucharski and ginny simpson art and social practice strand the main focus of all of my workshops will be how to encourage students and teachers to develop and utilize their artistic skills to engage in society this will all culminate in a public project that i will realize while at the conference that will enact principles from the various workshops john joseph mind your brain a journey into the mechanics of learning mind your brain provides the essential ingredients for developing a fully integrated thematic approach to learning about learning john will demonstrate how to use his remarkable powerpoints available for site license purchase at the conference including numerous brain and neuron animations to switch your students onto learning bill kentta josh reckord toolkit for teacher leaders as part of the collaborative environment of many earcos schools teachers are expected to assume leadership roles for a variety of different groups and teams these include grade level teams subject area departments a variety of curriculum groups parent groups ad hoc committees and as part of the accreditation process this pre-conference will focus on sharing tools for communication group and team building decision-making problem-solving and meeting processes participants will have access to ongoing earcos resources as they are developed and shared 8:30-15:45 kristi mally got purpose strand everything we do in the gymnasium must be grounded in a clear observable measurable purpose everything we do must have value for our students and must take them all to a new level of learning this activity based-session will ask participants to play and then analyze a variety of high-quality versatile activities participants will not only take away ideas but more importantly will gain a renewed commitment to purposeful planning there will be a continuation of this workshop during the main conference ted and carolyn temertzoglou inclusion and differentiated instruction in health and physical education strand the workshops presented by carolyn and ted will give teachers the tools they need to help all students succeed in health and physical education their three active sessions include 1 functional fitness blasts all grades 2 teaching games for understanding all grades and 3 healthy active living a foundation for a healthy school specifically for grades 7 to 10 their fourth session is of particular interest for those teaching ib-sports exercise and health science ism dance studio ism amelita m ramos hall 1125 dusit thani hotel meeting room 2 ism little theater dusit thani hotel boardroom 3 dusit thani hotel boardroom 4 ism hs gym 8:30-15:45 ism hs gym 10 earcos teachers conference 2010 manila philippines
