history ambar what about the fgm adhesive here it is four years ago fgm launched the composite resin opallis and with this release many professionals began to ask us and what about the fgm adhesive when will it come we continued with the development of dental products in the field of dental materials and in 2007 we launched the resin cement allcem again this led the professionals customers and partners to question us again and the fgm adhesive we need it fgm knew that such development would be complex and of great responsibility as this material connects the tooth structure to all other light-curing resin materials and this link could not fail the bonding to the dentin substrate is one of the biggest challenges existing in the restorative procedures in dentistry we need to bond a hydrophobic mixture of monomers with a porous water-filled dentin substrate for such aim a mixture of monomers dissolved in solvents is used and this should subsequently produce a polymer with good mechanical properties and chemical stability to reach a stable and long-lasting restoration it is really a challenge finding hydrophilic monomers capable to penetrate in the collagen network mesh and subsequently generate a high quality polymer was not an easy task the fgm faced the inefficient polymerization of monomers in the dentin moist substrate and searched chemical solutions to work around this problem and ensure quality of the formed polymer to reach this aim we have studied the solubility parameters of raw materials in various combinations as well as various fgm decided to wait until gathering knowledge maturity for the development of a material with desired success and the wait was worth the adhesive ambar surprised us with its excellent properties the release of the composite resin opallis was a landmark for fgm in terms of gathering knowledge and technology in the field of light-cured composites from the beginning we aimed to produce an adhesive system however as the latter is a product of high complexity the fgm decided to wait until gather enough knowledge so that the product would reach the desired success and the wait was worth it the adhesive ambar surprised us with its excellent properties we have determined as an aim that the adhesive to be developed would have properties comparable to the best adhesive systems in the market produced with our own technology and launched with an appropriate price for the brazilian market the adhesive to be developed should have had comparable properties to the best adhesive systems on the market be manufactured with our own technology and have an adequate price for the brazilian market 14 fgmnews magazine edition 3 january 2011

history ambar different solvents for the adhesive which allowed us to conclude that the widely-used ethanol works well in the dentin bonding formulations fgm searched for substances capable of producing a high level of crosslinking and strength to the adhesive film and for that fgm have entered in the world of nanoparticles rescuing the fgm experience with the nanoparticles of opallis but new questions arose how to make these nanoparticles compatible with the adhesive formulation how to quantify their benefit these questions guided the fgm to try out various nanoparticles as well as surface treatments the solution for these problems made it possible to produce a stable and high cross-linked polymer with ambar although all positive results obtained in our internal laboratory have been confirmed by tests at the state university of ponta grossa and the university of minnesota fgm has also attempted to clinically validate ambar the product was sent to several dental clinicians in brazil and latin america and they have reported clinical success and lack of postoperative sensitivity parallel to that ambar was evaluated clinically under a detailed longitudinal clinical study as can be seen on the following pages the results speak for themselves the clinical evidence proves and several dentists who have used ambar certify the fgm and confirm that the work of the adhesive development for the demanding dental market was well done fgm believes that its reward will be the satisfaction of several customers and partners when achieving a high-quality restoration using an adhesive system developed with genuinely brazilian technology laboratory results speak for themselves clinical evidence proves and several dentists who have used ambar confirm and certify the fgm work several laboratory methods were used during the development of ambar throughout this process we have employed microshear and microtensile tests degree of conversion and thermogravimetric analysis degree of conversion by infra-red spectroscopy ftir methods to determine the quality of the polymer such as microhardness and ultimate tensile strength marginal microleakage nanoleakage and several other chemical methods special attention was given to the evaluation of the stability of the polymer produced with ambar we have used aging methods to accelerate the degradation of the polymer film such as thermocycling and chemical degradation methods fgmnews magazine edition 3 january 2011 15
