Primary Years We build confident, happy students, preparing them to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives and supporting them in making a strong and positive contribution to society. Our curriculum gives students the skills and knowledge they will need as they progress through their school journey with our overriding aim to ensure that every child develops at the pace that is right for them. We support this by choosing topics that catch the interest of young minds in a fun and stimulating way: Our primary scientists benefit from the equipment used higher up the school to refine their experiments Our mathematicians enter local and international competitions We invite artists from all disciplines to visit the school to work with our students We have a great programme of musical and dramatic performances Key Stage 1 – Years 1 & 2 The Key Stage 1 curriculum is designed to keep students interested and engaged in their learning and to ensure that there is continuation and progression from the EYFS years. The broad and balanced UK curriculum is enhanced with trips, visitors, art projects, theme weeks and specialist teaching. Key Stage 2 – Years 3 to 6 Key Stage 2 is an enjoyable time for students as they begin to acquire more knowledge and skills such as independent learning, reflection and self assessment. Our students in these years learn the full range of subjects within the UK curriculum and children start to make more use of specialist facilities and subject areas such as languages, science and arts. We love to involve parents in their children’s learning wherever possible. 10

IB Diploma Programme The IB Diploma Programme is a comprehensive, two-year course with a rigorous academic programme for students aged 16 to 19. It is a unique and deliberate balance between the breadth and the specialisation which is required by some countries’ national systems. Perhaps more significantly, the qualification that students get at the end of the course is a prestigious and internationally recognised one. Most importantly, it is respected and highly valued by leading universities around the world. Through the IB, students develop the skills to live and work in an international context, essential for life in the 21st century. It provides a balanced education for the ‘whole’ student and provides excellent preparation for both university and adult life. Universities prefer IB students because the IB curriculum develops a balanced variety of skills. IB graduates, with the range of subjects they have studied, have a greater choice of undergraduate programmes. As an international student, it’s essential that my path to further education opens up a global passport for my future. The IB Diploma Programme that I’m studying at The British International School Abu Dhabi ticks all of the boxes for me; it is recognised internationally giving me the freedom to choose where in the world I would like to continue my studies. Employers, too, are increasingly looking for flexibility and adaptability, which is something all IB students are able to o er. Jessica Low IB student 1217

From IB to University University of Oxford IB Diploma holders gain admission to selective universities throughout the world. These include well-known European and American institutions such as Oxford, Yale and the Sorbonne in addition to prestigious centres in Latin America and the Asia/Pacific region. Formal agreements exist between the IBO and many ministries of education and private institutions. Some colleges and universities may o er advanced standing or course credit to students with strong IB examination results. It is important that individual students ascertain precisely the requirements of their chosen university with regard to the IB Diploma as soon as appropriate. Subject choice and level of study may need to be selected with university requirements in mind. Students studying the IB from Nord Anglia Education schools have been accepted into the following universities, amongst many others: Cambridge University Princeton University Imperial College University of Warwick Colgate University McGill University, Canada University of British Columbia, Canada University of Bristol The London School of Economics Tilburg University Utrecht University Royal Holloway University University of Exeter University of Manchester University of Nottingham The University of Warsaw 13 13

The Juilliard Curriculum From September 2016 our students will benefit from an enhanced performing arts curriculum. The British International School Abu Dhabi will become one of the first schools in the world to benefit from an innovative new collaboration between Nord Anglia Education and The Juilliard School in New York. Our students will follow a high quality Performing Arts curriculum developed by specialists from Juilliard, along with continued support from, and engagement with, Juilliard alumni and a iliated artists. The collaboration is designed to enhance our performing arts o ering by incorporating a set of teaching resources into our existing curriculum across the school through its innovative structure, design and approach. The enhanced arts curriculum, which focuses first on music, was developed by curriculum and music experts at both Juilliard and Nord Anglia Education. The music curriculum is designed for all students, not just those who are serious about learning an instrument or musical performance. It is based around a repertoire of 12 core works of Music covering a wide range of cultures, genres and historical periods, each of which has been carefully chosen by Juilliard to open the door to categories of music and fundamentals essential for all young people to know and experience. 14
