personal prayer before worship heavenly father i have come to worship you draw near to me in your gracious word and assure me of your loving kindness curb my wandering thoughts that with undivided attention i may hear your voice and sing your praise amen welcoming song just as i am verses 1-3 cw 397 3[close]

confession and absolution for our sins admitting our faults and god forgives leader god invites us to come into his presence and worship him with humble and penitent hearts therefore let us acknowledge our sinfulness and ask him to forgive us people holy and merciful father i confess that i am by nature sinful i have disobeyed you in my thoughts words and actions i have done what is evil i have not done what is good for all this i deserve your punishment both now and in eternity but i am truly sorry for my sins and trusting in my savior jesus christ i pray lord have mercy on me a sinner god our heavenly father has been merciful to us and has given us his only son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins therefore as a called servant of christ and by his authority i forgive you all your sins in the name of the father son and holy spirit leader response we sing such curses does the law pronounce against the one who fails but once but in the gospel christ appears he pardons guilt of numerous years to jesus we for refuge flee who from the curse has set us free and humbly worship at his throne saved by his grace through faith alone 4 tune cw 397[close]

we confess what we believe using the apostles creed the apostles creed is a brief statement of gospel truths taught by the apostles christians use it to tell others what they believe and also to confess their faith with one another as they meet for worship i believe in god the father almighty maker of heaven and earth i believe in jesus christ his only son our lord who was conceived by the holy spirit born of the virgin mary suffered under pontius pilate was crucified died and was buried he descended into hell the third day he rose again from the dead he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of god the father almighty from there he will come to judge the living and the dead i believe in the holy spirit the holy christian church the communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting amen 6[close]

instruction in the word psalm 38 the lord provider offerings gathered everything our goods our money our energy our drive our ambition all are gifts from god it is a privilege and a joy to give back to the lord what he has first given to us dear visitors and guests every weeks at good shepherd we return a portion of our livihood as freewill offerings to the lord for our local and worldwide ministries please do not feel that you have to participate in this act of worship we are most thankful the lord jesus brought you to be with us today prayers celebration of the lord s supper songs from the red song books christian worship to use during distribution #579 421 385 368 369 360 if needed today our congregation is celebrating the lord s supper at good shepherd we believe and teach that when we come forward to receive the supper we are publicly stating that we agree with one another on the teachings of the bible visitors before making such a major step we would love the opportunity to share with you what we believe we feel we owe that to you so please refrain from coming forward for the supper today but by all means speak with pastor tullberg about receiving the lord s supper soon so that you can enjoy all the blessings of this meal together with us in the future if you are a member of a sister wels or els congregation we invite you to join us in this statement of faith 8[close]

welcome to good shepherd our mission is simple and bold we seek to grow in faith and knowledge of our savior jesus we want to make him known to others so they too might share in the joy which jesus won for them we are so thankful you are here today in worship we tell and re-tell in ritual and song the history of salvation we establish our identity as part of god s family and see our place in the long history of god s people to gather in worship is important and both a duty and great delight if this is your first time here we re honored that you chose to worship with us please sign our guest register as you exit the church we would like the opportunity to get to know you better if you have visited before welcome back it s great to see you again we pray that your worship with us will be meaningful and worthwhile if you have any questions about what you heard in church today please ask we would be happy to share with you what we believe and why god s love and forgiveness is for everyone feel free to talk with pastor about setting up a special one-on-one bible study to learn about god s love for you and why you need him in your life we look forward to helping people find a spiritual home and family 10[close]

what s in a name lutheran martin luther was a man who in the late early 1500s challenged the church only one at that time that christians could purchase forgiveness from god based on the truths that god revealed to this man through the bible a division in the church began the group of christians that followed luther s teachings called themselves lutherans the important thing is not the name lutheran or even christian but what we believe and teach that is the content of what is revealed in the bible for us all what we believe here at good shepherd sola scriptura by scriptures alone we believe that the bible alone is the ultimate source of true teaching other sources of doctrines teachings such as human and church traditions supposed additional revelations and human reason are not supported among us when other writings repeat and accurately set forth bible truths we find them useful sola gratia by grace alone we believe that we sinners are justified declared not guilty pronounced forgiven 100 by god s underserved love for us his grace sola fida solo christo by faith alone christ alone this free forgiveness is received 100 through the gift of faith or trust in jesus christ alone so we reject human merit contributing good works or human cooperation with god in conversion and salvation as false ideas it s not what we have done but what christ did for us soli deo gloria glory to god alone we believe that god creates maintains and strengthens this saving faith reliance on christ in us through the gospel good news centered in jesus christ this gospel is given by god to us through his word and the sacraments of baptism and the lord s supper these are his chosen means of grace and no one can have or maintain faith unless god brings this about through his word and sacraments as tools he uses to bless us 11[close]
