whats in the newsletter this week parkland website parkland cross-country inter-schools cross-country school bike raffle teacher only day fundamental skills programme queens birthday sport parkland uniform parkland stars super sport thursdays plant to plate programme parkland pride puzzler from the pta disco dear parents the new website is now up and running have you checked it out yet www.parkland.school.nz thanks to those that have provided feedback we would encourage everyone to get into the habit of using the hub as the school will certainly be using it to make messages and information available to parents over time some of the material we would normally place in this newsletter will be placed directly into the hub instead this means you will see all the photos etc in colour it is a great place to see a range of photos about recent school activities and find out what your childs class is really doing the entire newsletter itself is now available online at present there are three competitions running where children need to use the hub to find their answers there is a large colourful box in the foyer where all entries can be placed access to other class pages will be restricted in time so we would encourage you to make the most of the open access that is available now www.parkland.school.nz

www.parkland.school.nz school raffle time is running out for you to purchase tickets for either of the fabulous bikes being raffled at present see barb or kath in the office or you can buy before school from one of the prefects outside the front office bring $2 to the disco and buy your ticket then!

teacher only day tomorrow parents are asked to note that the school will be closed on friday june 3rd tomorrow so that we can hold a professional development day for teachers this coincides with queens birthday weekend the school will be closed on monday june 6 also fundamental skills junior team junior classes have been extremely fortunate to have been able to participate in this programme run by sport manawatu the weather has been relatively kind as well children have developed a range of skills across a broad range of sports through their involvement queens birthday sport parents should note that there is no hockey or netball this weekend as it is queen`s birthday parkland school uniform next week teachers have been asked to check that uniform items being worn to school are appropriate we will be looking particularly at socks and shoes next week if you receive a uniform slip please help out by considering the uniform item in question remember black socks and black shoes

parkland stars we have a range of parkland stars this week room 6 children have been sharing their incredible homework books room 14 modelled their awesome sports research others have been showing me their fantastic writing abilities.

super sport thursdays tackle rugby for seniors many thanks to mr edwards who has been taking tackle rugby during super sport thursdays recently obviously enjoyed by those participating great to see the change of clothes being worn by players as well plant to plate programme miss gonzales and room 12 have had a wonderful time being involved in this fantastic programme the three introductory sessions concluded on thursday with a banquet of healthy proportions i must say however that not all the boys were used to eating their vegetables parkland school is very appreciative of the support offered by the volunteers and organisers we now have two very healthy raised planter boxes and two active compost bins room 13 can look forward to being involved later in the year.

from the pta support our outstanding teachers parkland school hall friday 10 june parkland school pupils only entry $2 our school has been invited to submit nominations for the neita 2011 national excellence in teaching and leadership awards the awards programme provides a rare opportunity to publically recognise and encourage our outstanding teachers and leaders and give them a welldeserved pat on the back it s the only national awards programme where individuals bots and ptas can nominate teachers and leaders who contribute excellence nominated teachers and leaders receive a congratulatory neita certificate of registration and become candidates for neita awards its easy to nominate forms are available from the school office or local libraries forms can also be downloaded or completed online at www.neita.co.nz or requested from the neita administrator by phoning 09 308 0576 nominations close on 31 august 2011 times junior 5.30-6.15pm senior 6.30 7.30pm middle team children can choose all children must be collected from outside the hall at the conclusion of each disco the disco will be well supervised by pta parents staff parents are welcome to have a cuppa and a chat in room 14 during the discos flashing necklaces and rings will be on sale for $2 each glow wrist bands 2 for $1
