Private Lessons - All Ages Private Lessons All Ages June 20 - September 2 Summer is a great time for students to build on their current music studies or explore a new instrument through private lessons, making leaps and bounds provided by the focus and individual attention of one-on-one instruction. Get a jump start on your school ensemble-playing or prepare for auditions and Royal Conservatory Music Development Program assessments by taking private lessons during the summer! The Performing Arts School offers private lessons in all instruments and voice. Performing Arts School Student Services staff work with you to determine the best fit between student and teacher, and are happy to answer all of your questions or assist with registration by phone at 908-790-0700. Children experience different cultures through interactive musical games, stories, arts and crafts, food, and musical instruments. Children travel the world in this multi-cultural camp experience. *For a Full Day option, add Intro to Musical Theatre Arts Camp in the afternoon. Summer heats up when campers come together to learn to play instruments including Drums, Piano, Violin and Ukulele. Students will rotate in small groups to explore these and other instruments, as well as learn musical concepts, terminology, and note reading by playing games and enjoying group activities. Campers bring a bag lunch and will get to stretch out in the sunshine. This is an excellent way for children to explore many different instruments and discover what they might like to play as they are growing up. Orchestral Camp includes chamber music, camp orchestra, and camp chorus. Music theory and instrument doubling are explored as well as fun physical activities and games! Orchestral Camp is held at 570 Central Avenue in New Providence. Performance Ensembles: • Camp Orchestra – All campers perform alongside Orchestral Camp staff • Chamber Orchestra – Intermediate to Advanced Strings • Cadet Orchestra – Beginning to Intermediate Strings • Wind Ensemble – Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion • Camp Chorus – All campers develop musical and ensemble skills • Chamber Music – Campers rehearse daily in small ensembles and perform in a special Chamber Music Concert on July 7 & 8. Music Theory: Learn to identify intervals, chords and rhythms as well as key signatures and musical terms. Students are placed in appropriate class levels. Instrument Doubling Program: Campers take introductory classes on bass, viola, bassoon, oboe, trombone or tuba. This two-week camp is designed to unleash the artist within! Classes include dance, movement, acting, improvisation, and set and costume design. Campers work one-on-one with professionals in each specialized area and prepare a production of a one-act play, performed with costumes, scenery, and lights! Junior Winds Camp Tuition at Early Registration: $385 Grade: Entering 5th-7th Grade Camp Dates: 7/25-7/29 Demonstration: 7/29 Tuition After Early Registration: $410 Times: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Directors: Diana Charos Reilly, Bryan Rudderow Junior Winds Camp focuses on fundamentals and strengthening of wind and brass skills as well as offering campers a chance to perform. Students work on two instruments – their “major” instrument which they have experience playing and a “minor” wind or brass instrument of their choosing. Secondary instruments will be provided. The day starts with sectionals and technical fundamentals. After a snack and recreational time playing games including musical Jeopardy, campers wrap up their day with a full ensemble rehearsal. Junior Winds Camp is held at 570 Central Avenue in New Providence. What did you like most about Summer at Wharton? “Playing challenging music with other talented musicians who are also serious about music. My son LOVES this camp.” Recreation: Recreational activities will be provided daily during the first week of camp. Training in acting, improvisation, scene study, and character development are explored. Camp culminates with a Hairspray-themed production on August 26. *Tap, jazz, and ballet shoes required. Students are challenged to go beyond the fundamentals of singing to performance with artistic flair. Learn how to sing a diverse range of vocal styles, including contemporary musical theatre, pop, alternative, jazz and blues, classical and opera, cabaret, and a cappella. Each student is assigned 2-3 songs to master. The camp culminates in a cabaret-style Performer’s Showcase on July 9. Rotate from class to class learning different song repertoire in rock, blues, jazz, and classical. Learn the applied theory for the style of music you want to play. Experience the art of playing in a band and how to participate in a jam session. The last day of camp features a performance by ensemble members. Minimum of 6 months of study required.
