reconstruction issues shenandoah valley high school has already undergone many alterations recently the abrupt adjustment of the schedules to ensure that every day consists of an advisory period the revising of our once lenient dress code to a rather small strict list of permitted clothes and the start of requiring students to participate in random drug tests in order to join any extracurricular activities now the students have been sent a letter addressing yet another sudden large change the school is undergoing a huge reconstruction project this project will cause complications we need to acknowledge pact involves the overall high school remodeling due to this particular project occuring in the first week of school all high school students will have to attend to their classes in the elementary school building this is the longest change that will be occuring it will take up at least 90 days no estimated date has been given as to when we will return to the regular school a letter will be mailed to students informing them of the locations another issue will be for all of the band students in elementary and high of their scheduled classes but again school in order to improve the condi no estimated date has been given as to tions of the library lobby music suite when we will receive this letter and auditorium the project requires all of these facilities to not be in use from these changes especially the last one june 2nd to late august thus all band may be hard to adjust to for a while procedures that occur this summer will the school asks for our patience and be relocated to the garage storage area we have no choice but to provide it so firstly this change is hopefully for the better have hope the school will be upthis proand by the beginning of the school graded and improved to the point ject year there should have a much better where this sacrifice will be worth it in will cause band room to come back to theory at least if you can t put up the tempowith it regardless just remember the rary clos one last final but quite large detail issues are temporary ing of the included in the project s letter of imgym until june 30th when the planned upgrades and repairs are complete nobody may go into the school s gymnasium this means no indoor gym classes sports practices or games this is a small inconvience however considering not many students will even be in the school during the period in which we undergo this prom 2011 prom was an exciting time for everyone that attended the junior senior prom was held at the beautiful hillcrest located in minersville promenade was at four o clock sharp everyone that attended was fortunate enough to see the beautiful dresses and handsome tuxedos as everyone made their way to hillcrest for pictures provide by studio l you were seated for wonderful oeuvres dinner consisted of either turkey or pasta with sauce and meatballs for desert chocolate moose topped with whipped cream was served eventually during the night the announcement for king queen prince and princess was announced the king tyler craig and queen samantha sensenbach were crowned for the class of 2011 prince john szczyglak and princess tori dziedziak took the title for the juniors prom 2011 was just an overall amazing time i thank the seniors for creating a beautiful night and a gorgeous prom.

baseball the baseball team didn t know what to expect going into the season the first game was against north schuylkill and they didn t play that bad even though they lost they were thinking that the season was going to be a good one they had rough outings in the next two games of the season but in the fourth game they played weatherly and won 12-4 and they were back on track with a 1-1 record in the league the next game was for first place in the league and they suffered a loss to nativity after that game the season went downhill from there they lost one of their main pitchers tyler craig he suffered an injury to his shoulder that put him out of pitching for the year they won 3 more games after that beating mahanoy area weatherly again and lourdes the rest of the games they lost they got killed with errors and not hitting the ball when they needed to they were a young team with only 4 seniors on the field they had a rough year going 4-16 they hope to build with the kids coming back next year and have a picture thanks to http djray.com page 3

drama club chicago last weekend april 29-may 1 the shenandoah valley drama club put on quite a show one of the best in years according to reviews it s likely they will score some awards for this excellent performance however it s important to know all of the toil and effort that went into making this play possible the musical production of the famous movie chicago wasn t was the club had their hearts set on at first they went through a few ideas for plays including hair and les miserables it wasn t necessarily indecisiveness play writers have lately been very possessive of their plays and calling out copyright infringement thus we finally decided on the play chicago not that it was an easy one to snag either just to purchase the rights to the play drained us of around $3,000 buying permission was just the start of the problems they came across for five months the cast worked from three to five then six to nine occasionally eleven at night to perfect all of the difficult dance steps and the high notes in all of the songs each member also had the responsibility of selling one hundred and twenty five worth of drama ads each being that it was the only means of any financial support to save money an ambitious science teacher mrs shumack had to create custommade costumes the worst ordeal may have been the complaints of the raised entry fee this year from $3 a student and $5 an adult to $5 a student and $8 per adult the higher prices were absolutely necessary but the fear of nobody showing up made everyone involved in the project wary fortunately the outcome didn t disappoint all three nights the place was packed and the performance blew everyone away i ve never heard such tremendous singing out of our students or seen them look so vibrant and beautiful i feel this play was a perfect blend of snarkiness humor and emotion for shenandoah valley students to be able to put it on so well it really brought out our personality questions remain as to whether or not anyone made out financially but the play has been considered a great success otherwise i see in our future many slews of awards and even more spenldid reviews and of course more amazing performances for the years to comes pictu to:ht 11/r ecology club shenandoah valley has had an ecology club for a few years now but only recently has their been this much activity we can thank our newest math teacher mr matunis for this little burst of progress a little more than a month and a half ago he increased the club s publicity with announcements and embraced all of its members now that it s more well-known there are more members and thus much more productivity what exactly however do all of these students intend to do to encourage recycling they make slogans crafts and posters relevant to the activity and post them all over the school we want to make our school more environmentally friendly and efficient says shaina graff and one way to do this is to make use of everything including our waste you can find all of the vibrant hand crafted projects on every floor of the school ited to the removal of recycable trash into proper containers planting of flowers around the school and possibly the clean-up of local parks the industrious students involved envision not just accomplishing these goals but anything the future withholds we don t want just our school to be cleaner says member mike mourer we want people to recognize the imporof course this is not the only matter they tance of the environment overall plan to cover mr matunis states we d like to improve our community that there will be many other projects in as it turns out their main goal for now is the future these include but are not limpage 4 theto rc h

red riding hood set in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf valerie is torn between two men she is in love with an outsider peter but valerie s family has arranged for her to marry wealthy henry peter and valerie not wanting to lose each other are planning to run away together but then they learn that valerie s sister has been killed by the werewolf they had kept a truce with the beast for years but under the red moon the wolf wants human blood wanting revenge the villagers ask help from father solomon famed werewolf hunter but as soon as solomon arrives the death toll rises with each rise of the moon this movie is a must see it s packed with adventure mystery and romance everything that makes a great and thrilling movie red riding hood will have you twisting and turning in your seat you question every person as you try to figure out who the werewolf is it s just one of those movies you must see to understand by victoria and jessica gottshall ure thanks ttp www.impawards.com/20 red_riding_hood_ver2.html dodge ball tournament were determined by the best of three games advancing deeper into the tournament games went to the best of five and the championship being best of seven the championship was battled between team macker adam macker jordan mays tyler savakinis zack levis chris palubinsky molly carduff elysha bolschi and savanna major and the averages joes blaise breslosky tyler craig colin karahuta brandon cooney nicky merva ahna huss ali semanchik and ms buriak each team battled back and forth in an exciting battle of true dodgeballers but with the average joes coming out on top to win the whole tournament the first shenandoah valley dodgeball tournament was a huge success and hopefully will be played in future years so that future students are able to enjoy this fun event a dodgeball tournament was held on thursday april 21st in the high school gym the tournament featured teams made up of five guys and three girls all teams donated $24 $3 a person in order to play in the tournament the tournament was a smashing success raising money for the school and giving students a little bit of fun before the easter break hosted by blaise breslosky adam macker and zach lewis teams had a lot of competition to deal with early in the bracket style schedule games video games bethesda software is coming out with the elder scrolls 5 skyrim wich the story takes 200 years after the previous game oblivion in oblivion the main goal was to shut down the oblivion gates that were popping up in skyrim the main goal is to kill the dragon s god because it is your destiny in oblivion the fighting was kind of boring because there were 4 different types of fighting moves you could do with each type of weapon but in skyrim the combat is supposed to be more tactical because the developers have worked on improving the combat and weaponry oblivion was a good game but the caves and forts and stuff were all basically the same layout just different things were in them but in skyrim it is said that there will be a lot of uniqueness in everything in skyrim the people will act like they would in real life what i mean by that is in oblivion when you talk to someone they would stop doing what the are doing and talk to you but in skyrim they walk around with you as you talk to them and if they are doing something then they will talk to you and work on what they are working on page 5
