page 3 of 8 school happenings school community council meeting the next council meeting will be held on tuesday march 23rd at 7:00 pm in the board room everyone is welcome recreation coordinator ms whitmore will be away the week of march 8th to the 12th there will be gym night as usual but her other programs will be cancelled on the move we will be hosting a workshop on thursday march 18th with an instructor from la ronge this program increases opportunities for inactive girls and young women in physical activity and sport if you are interested in attending this workshop call courtney at 688 -7409 for information all parents and youth are welcome for information on this visit www.caaws.ca persephone theatre presents two shows for our students on monday march 22nd lig bittle will be at 9:10 am for the k to grade 6 students at 10:40 they will present the shape of a girl for the grade 7 to 12 students parents are welcome to come and join the audience for what is always a great show chilly willy festival mark this date on your calendar and come out to the chilly willy festival saturday march the 20th a wide variety of activities will be happening in the sportex for your entire family the action begins at 3:00 pm child care for teacher parent interviews child care will be available in the gym for the teacher /parent interviews on march 25th and 26th march is nutrition month and we are having a contest each day the students need to complete a simple assignment from the canada food guide and they could help win points for their class the top class will receive a subway party some of these duties need to be completed at home then your child can inform his/her teacher the next day if the task was completed the jobs are as follows 1st 6-8 cups of water 2nd a fruit for lunch 3rd whole grain pasta or rice today school for more information 688-3300 quebec trip march 2010 a group of 9 students from grades 9-11 will be enjoying la belle province at the end of march this year these students will be touring montreal and quebec city and enjoying the local entertainment cuisine and scenery they are leaving on march 28th and returning april 3rd i m 4th recommended milk servings 5th bunny hop for 2 minutes 8th have a meat or meat alternative for breakfast 9th whole grain item for the food bank bread is needed 10th have a yogurt 11th have a green and orange veggie today 12th walk around the school 15th have a 100 juice box 16th march for 2 minutes 17th have a serving of cheese 18th have a serving of salad 19th have a serving of cereal for breakfast 22nd have a whole grain sandwich today 23rd try the snack today if you have any questions please call and i will be glad to help you -robertine elliott sure there will be many pictures and stories to share upon their return come on out and support these students by attending their fundraiser on saturday march 6th from 1:00 p.m to 3:00 p.m there will be a meat draw penny parade some home business and lots of fun activities back by popular demand will be delicious poutine hope to see you there video contest the local suicide prevention committee is having a video contest for students in grade 7-12 students in flin flon creighton cranberry and surrounding area are welcome to submit a public service announcement video approximately 3-5 minutes that sends a strong message and grabs attention topics can include abuse drugs and alcohol domestic violence bullying peer pressure and many more videos must be submitted by march 24 2010 to your school guidance counselor an awards evening will be held at the creighton community school gymnasium and two grand prizes of $600 will be awarded contact wendy vipond school counselor creighton[close]

page 4 of 8 congrats to the senior girls basketball team for a great season so far to date the girls finished 3rd in nipawin 2nd in their home tournament and 3rd in la ronge in their last tournament the kodiaks traveled to warmen to play against many of the top teams in the province the girls had a fantastic weekend losing a close game in the b-side final against number three ranked dalmeny next up the kodiaks will travel to play against many of their conference rivals in the p.a.c.i invitational tournament the following weekend they will face off against la ronge nipawin prince albert collegiate institute and prince albert rivier for the conference championships good luck girls the rest of the way basketball lexi blouin alesha bullee faryn johnsgaard marley williamson jessie manns megan dubinak morganna senyk kristal kawa sara hydamaka sara kozak lia nasselquist melissa bolme maureen jobes morgan grant lynette macfarlane mr trumbley coach crystal springer asst coach good luck to the senior boys basketball and senior girls basketball teams as they travel to meath park and prince albert for the conference championships this weekend the boys are ranked number one out of four teams and will face off against wadena in their first game the girls are ranked second out of five teams and will play nipawin in their first game the teams need to finish in the top two of the tournament to move on to regionals good luck to the wrestling team as they travel to prince albert for the regional wrestling championships.[close]

page 6 of 8 huge congratulations to 3w miss weber s students were the first to completely fill their reado card and celebrated with an ice cream party complete with chocolate or caramel sauce and sprinkles on their cones they enjoyed the reading activities and while some chose quiet reading as their favorite others found it the most challenging other favorites were reading with grade 12 s and reading library news magazines the next few weeks will be busy as other classrooms celebrate filling their reado cards 4h is displaying wonderful pioneer projects in the library and in spite of all the animals and small campfires burning in the yards of the settlers things have been staying neat and tidy dioramas created by the junior spca will be the next display and hopefully those animals will be as well behaved as the pioneer ones our library is so much more than books and provides many exciting ways to learn of course a steady supply of new books is hitting the shelves with titles for all ages march brings us st patrick s day easter and of course spring we have been trying out and we have a great new technology in the selection of seasonal library as we use a camera titles that will be put to and projector to put our good use thank you books onto a big screen for encouraging your students are able to see child to be a responsible the pictures much easier library citizen by as they are giant-sized returning borrowed making it much easier to items on time follow the story and read the pictures happy spring reading 100 day activities[close]

spring break recreation line-up page7 of 8 monday march 29th ukrainian easter egg decorating workshop there is no cost to participate but you must pre-register with either channa 688-8254 or courtney 688-7409 first session runs from 10 am until noon our second session begins at 1 pm until roughly 3 pm tuesday march 30th ski lodge sliding party celebration begins at 1 pm and runs until 4 pm contests coloring and lots and lots of downhill fun wednesday march 31st birchview arcade party doors open at 1 pm and every machine in the arcade turned on for a free two hour gaming session thursday april 1st movie in the library newest kid-friendly release with free popcorn and juice boxes come up to the library at 1 pm spell-a-thon results just over 300 students in k-8 from creighton community school participated in a spell-a-thon in hopes to raise money for the canadian red cross haiti relief the final results are amazing and heart-warming altogether $8 385.41 was brought in each individual student who participated needs a big pat on the back over $25 was brought in from 91 individual students 21 students brought in over $100 each our raffle winners for scoring 100 on their spelling test were casey carriere 2fe and hunter brasch 3h raffle winners for raising a minimum of $25 were derek koivisto 2fo and keenan campbell 2fe our top fundraisers were abbey werbicki grades k-2 $250.00 cally hammond grades 35 $500.00 and brandon ireland grades 6-8 $171.00 wow these three students were treated to a red-carpet day on monday march 1st they were chauffeured to school in the school van greeted with a red carpet the whole staff and paparazzi then they were pampered with a mini-makeover by mrs hovland and her cosmetology students our administration team has graciously agreed to give up their roles of principals to our top earners for the day the new administration team of 6 also went out for lunch together once again thank you to everyone who helped raise this staggering amount for such a worthy cause we are living in a global world and our students have just shown they are setting an example of being terrific global citizens.[close]
