page 2 paw prints april 2011 states continued from p 1 the technology student association is a longstanding tradition in quakertown providing students all skills needed to succeed in a technology-related career in the future every year students end up on stage accepting trophies for events that showed the hard work put into them the state conference is also a place for students to let loose and enjoy themselves new friends are made friendships are strengthened and you barely sleep as sophomore tori feldemeier said my favorite part is making new friends tori continues we met people at regionals and at states they remembered us and we got to hang out again with 37 high school and freshman center students drama can be expected surprisingly the 2011 state conference provided little drama instead everyone seemed willing to get along and help one another for example in the middle of the frantic flux before events a competitor realized that her laptop was not recognizing the software needed to hand in an event a quakertown sophomore came to the rescue loaning her own laptop to the friendly opponent while quakertown didn t receive as many trophies as hoped the students all came out of the conference with smiles clutching trophies and ribbons as if they were holding charlie bucket s golden ticket the 2011-2012 tsa year is looking promising as new students will move up from the freshman center and not many students will be leaving for college to quote the outgoing tsa state president katherine chen strive for excellence and enjoy the journey the quakertown chapter certainly did just that coming away with one fourth place one fifth place three sixth places one ninth place and one tenth place a bright promising future awaits these tsa participants quakertown s quest for qualification the competitors seniors jordan besch nick johnson cat zylstra claire bimes juniors ryan cosgrove josh lapinski sarah schlicher akhil adla kelsey johnson sophomores janine berkezchuk brianna chicarelli kelsey farell victoria feldemeier brooke whitmire shelby van den burg michelle cowan leah kaighn hannah swearingen rebecca waddell brent leatherman cole audesirk kush patel derrick dieso tyler bartholomew evan soskin eric ott freshmen bradley davco stephen shelly evan cosgrove aubrey schoen samantha brown and how they sum up states in 3 words tori feldemeier you barely sleep shelby van den burg i over packed stephen shelly the food s amazing cole audesirk expect the unexpected brianna chicarelli dramatic fun tiring leah kaighn you got food stephanie waddell middle school fun food arcade photo courtesy tori feldemeier four of the quakertown sophomores before an awards assembly from left brianna chicarelli brooke whitmire kelsey farrell and tori feldemeier.

april 2011 paw prints page 3 pa-tsa meet your new state officers becca waddell paw prints reporter candidates immediately began distributing business cards and poster spreading the word and gaining support on friday night eight new officers stood on stage before their peers among them were three quakertown students ready to take their oath and prepare for their terms while the newly elected officers will not officially begin their terms until the summer they are spending weeks getting ready while the hard work of campaigning has paid off more hard work is yet to come with organizing the regional and state conferences and ensuring yet another entertaining year after two intense days of campaigning delegates from every school at the pa-tsa state conference gathered to hear speeches from candidates hoping to be the 2011-2012 pennsylvania state officers with eight positions available quakertown was well represented with three candidates for different offices alliances had also been made to elect candidates befriended at the conference kelsey johnson a quakertown junior is currently finishing her term as the state reporter for the photo courtesy rebecca waddell the pa-tsa 2010-2011 state officers stand at the annual business meeting from left emily beiber jacob ross kelsey johnson rachel newell katherine chen liza 2010-2011 school year while serving on the chapter team kelsey befriended liza atillasoy and dhruv pillai this friendship resulted in quakertown agreeing to support atillasoy and pillai both from harriton high school in the quest to become state officers again besides kelsey johnson s campaign for secretary quakertown sophomore matthew basile and senior akhil adla campaigned for the offices of sergeant at arms and treasurer respectively with just 48 hours to campaign the photo courtesy matt basile photo courtesy kelsey johnson photo courtesy akhil adla quakertown sophomore matt basile delivers his candidacy speech for the state office of sergeant at arms quakertown junior kelsey johnson delivers her candidacy speech for the state office of secretary quakertown junior akhil adla delivers his candidacy speech for the state office of treasurer quakertown s results category chapter team finish 6th place students akhil adla matt basile claire bimes kelsey johnson ryan cosgrove sarah schlicher future technology teacher scivis structural engineering technology problem solving pa-material process chapter team-written 5th place 10th place 6th place 4th place 9th place 6th place shelby van den burg sarah schlicher jordan besch leah kaighn hannah swearingen eric ott evan soskin eric ott claire bimes
