November | 2015 New Child Immunization Laws in 2016 SB 277: Senate Bill 277 removes all exemptions to vaccine requirements for school entry except those medically indicated. Regardless of their parents' personal or religious beliefs, almost all California children who attend private or public child care centers, preschools, elementary schools and secondary schools will be required to be fully vaccinated for 10 diseases: diphtheria, Haemophilus influenzae type b (bacterial meningitis), measles, mumps, pertussis (whooping cough), polio, rubella, tetanus, hepatitis B and chicken pox. Unvaccinated children can attend these schools only if they obtain a medical exemption from a doctor. (Effective January 1, 2016) More information: http://edsource.org/2015/ what-schools-and-parents-need-toknow-about-the-new-vaccinationlaw/82242 SB 792: Licensed child care centers and family day care homes will have to maintain vaccination records for all employees and volunteers for influenza, pertussis, and measles. CCCC Highlights Gratitude in November Gratitude receives a lot of attention this time of year. We all want our children to be appreciative, but did you know that an attitude of gratitude helps children thrive? Studies have shown that children, regardless of age, who practice grateful thinking are more likely to show more positive attitudes toward school, family, and life in general. Grateful children also are less likely to report feelings of depression and have challenging behaviors. This November, follow CCCC on Facebook to learn some ways to get children (and yourself) thinking about what to be thankful for all year round! Follow us on Facebook during November at www.facebook.com/kernchildcare and look for the hashtag #gratitude! R&R Corner Fall is a good time to remind parents of your illness policy to prevent the spread of cold & flu germs in your day care or center. Now, you can print your own CCCC's "Keep Me Home" poster guide in both English and Spanish at www.kernchildcare.org/healthsafety and give it to parents in your program. Also, put them in your enrollment packets for the new year and welcoming new families. A program operated by the Superintendent of Schools Office, Christine Lizardi Frazier, Superintendent
