· official greeting ladies and gentlemen we are glad to welcome all the participants of the 10th anniversary azerbaijan international travel and tourism fair today we can say with the utmost certainty that azerbaijan has managed to occupy a strong position in the world tourism industry by 2011 more and more major international organisations are increasing their interest in our country each year this is made clear by the numerous international events successfully organised in our capital and other regions by tourism agencies from turkey russia germany the united states and other cis oic and eu member countries these achievements have been made possible thanks to president ilham aliyev s attention to the tourism industry and his efforts to make this sector a priority direction of development our head of state s commitment has furthered the successful implementation of our state program on tourism development and the state program on regional social-economic development for the years 2009-2013 these state programs helped to attract leading investment companies from across the world developed entrepreneurship thanks to wise credit policies and assisted private firms in the tourism sector to build high-class tourist facilities via financial support at the meeting of the cabinet of ministers dedicated to the outcomes of social-economic development of 2010 and the main directions of the country s development in 2011 his excellency president ilham aliyev declared the year of 2011 the year of tourism in azerbaijan we must try to bolster the development of tourism in 2011 we must do everything we can to achieve great results in this area to achieve this we must all work hard to further augment the power of our country and confidently take azerbaijan forward as a unwto member since 2001 azerbaijan has participated in numerous events held by this competent international organisation these events have in turn helped the ministry of culture and tourism and leading tourist agencies to expand their business contacts with field-specific organisations globally and to increase the flow of tourists into the country our country s participation in world tourism exhibitions and fairs and international conferences and festivals has played a major role in promoting our tourism potential abroad and of course the aitf plays a significant role in creating an attractive tourism image of azerbaijan in certain ways this fair contributes to developing various types of tourism and also activates small and medium entrepreneurship in the sector by gathering under one roof many representatives of the global tourism industry the fair also demonstrates the achievements of modern tourism infrastructure in azerbaijan by attracting a wide range of experts seeking to enhance their professional relations and by giving them the chance to exchange experiences and take part in joint projects the fair also creates a media space for advertising and commercial activities all these increase its influence as a tourism event over the entire caucasus region while at the same time attracting the interests of foreign investors and tourist business representatives to our country i wish every success to the participants of this event in developing friendly ties and establishing new business contacts to jointly realise future ideas abulfas garayev minister of culture and tourism of the republic of azerbaijan 28-30 april 2011-baku azerbaijan 7
