Reports Beverly Anderson’s Report (Previous Chair) This report will not be very long. I mentioned in my last annual report that I had had my knee replacement surgery and I really did expect to be much fitter by now. But things have not gone as I thought they would, and I am still having tests for various things. The staff at CCH have been very busy and I thought doing a great job. They were also mindful of me and helpful when I needed help. It is wonderful to see our newly redone works in the O’Kane Wing and I am sure she would have been delighted. There is a few bits and pieces to do, but it is certainly operational now. Well done to all concerned including those who usually use the space and had to find other spaces in the interim. I fully intend to be helpful when I can. That is all I wish to say just one except a BIG thank you to all at the CCH for the work they do and wish them well in the future. I am now handing this report over to the Acting Chairperson for her to add some other events from the last while. Bev Anderson Acting Chairperson’s Report 2015 A very busy ten months since our last AGM, with so much happening! I’ll try to run you through the sequence of events as they unfolded. The Governor’s visit was a highlight with Jean and Ruth ensuring all was in order and they were suitably impressed. Sally as always has been busy and relatively successful with many grants, particularly a Capacity grant, which allowed for a project to identify and build on the houses strengths and skills. Pat Grosse was enlisted to write this report, which will have ongoing benefits. Grants were also received for new doors and floor coverings for the Anderson Wing. We also completed the works around the refurbishment of the O’Kane Wing, which again will become our community hub, for all things with a community support focus. I wish to acknowledge the support of both the Moira Shire and the CCE in the project. Tegan and Nicholas were married! Many changes were then put in place, with a combination of Bev’s ill health and the worrying financial down turn being experienced, which has had flow on effects to not just our house, but many other houses. Bev resigned from her position in March, ongoing funding cuts and financial concerns including the loss of emergency relief funding caused us to have to make Troy’s position redundant and all staff hours were cut. Paula Hansen, Christine and Kellie’s positions also made redundant, but we still have them as trainers and 5 Annual Report 2013-2014| Cobram Community House

on committee. I also wish to acknowledge the great work each of these three did for the organization. Due to Bev’s resignation, a new executive was formed; Acting chair- Kerry Murray Public relations – Ruth Ritchie Secretary – Ruth Ritchie, Fiona Luke & Kellie Butler Treasurer – Paula Walin-Bates On a positive note Gail, Jo and Kellie joined the committee, although Fiona, Jo, Cam, Terry and Rob later resigned, all having had valuable contributions, both in short term and particularly Cam’s long term commitment, which will be missed. Jo supported the Committee enormously with her wealth of knowledge around her previous training experiences. While the house was having it’s struggles, the regional support group, GNEAC were also having to look at a redevelopment, which probably impacted on the difficulties Cobram Community House was having. Through the hard work of committee, particularly Paula and the ongoing supportive staff, who have endured hard decisions and the worry of possible closure, along with service providers, specifically Moira Shire and Department Health and Human services (DHHS) ongoing funding has been approved. Several meetings have been called and funding sort to closer look at the alliance with Moira ACE, to better support training through RTO’s Digital literacy for Seniors and Family Learning Partnerships funding have more recently been awarded, which will have excellent benefits for seniors and families learning to support their children’s learning. Congratulations to the hard working staff and committee on ensuring the smooth and continued functioning of the CCH. Their dedication and commitment to the organization has been exemplary as without it CCH would not be operating. Looking forward to future success. Acting Treasurer’s Report Whilst I was writing this Troy’s beloved Kellie lost her long battle with her illness and Jack lost his loving Mum. It has been a year of “blood, sweat and tears”. Cobram Community House had a second year of significant operating losses. CCH had a near closure experience, to the point that a liquidator was called in to assess the situation. After 2 years of losses the situation has been turned around. This change came at a high price. A significant amount of work by staff, Committee of Management, its sub-committees, Moira Shire Council and last but not least by Kim Spalding DHHS Team Leader for Community Participation Local Connections Goulburn Area East Division. Significant hours have been spent analysing, planning and reviewing new strategies, to remedy the issue. Besides staff cuts, business processes, reporting and operations have been revised. I would like to point out that care, thought and dedication has been used making these decisions. Good people have sustained changes to their employment situation and some of the service delivery has altered. For instance, we had to reduce Centrelink operating hours to the public to match service delivery times to funding. During the coming year we will strive to reduce grant dependency, work on productivity and processes to achieve healthier ratios. I am sure this can be achieved with dedicated, thorough and diligent work. Current deficit was due to a combination of reasons: Grant dependency, overstaffing, for instance skilled people were hired for projects and stayed on past the grant period. On the training side, funding structure changed and CCH did not alter its training delivery. Currently staff is being trained to use the Moodle Blended Delivery Format to reduce training costs and offer more options to the students. With all the work being done to turn CCH financial situation around and ongoing efforts; in twelve months’ time it is expected that CCH will be in a stronger financial position and therefore more able to deliver programs and services that the community desires.
