Information is power and those who have access to it are powerful. This ancient adage is extremely topical in modern times. Mankind has started a new phase of development referred to as the information society. Thanks to modern means of communication, borders between countries disappear and the best ideas, coming from the minds of creative people from different countries, cultures and continents, can become the property of all mankind. Thanks to projects and programmes of international cooperation and the intellectual elite, businessmen and scientists can collectively accept the challenge of our times: the elimination of the consequences of technological catastrophes, overcoming the problems of hunger and poor quality of life in developing countries, fighting fatal diseases, improving equipment all contribute to the development of science and culture. Nowadays, the collaboration of national elites and progressive thinking citizens is extremely important for peace initiatives, social progress and the wellbeing of every inhabitant on the planet. The Editorial Board of the Socrates Almanac works with the Europe Business Assembly- an international organization working towards building the bridge between business and education worldwide. EBA conferences include a multitude of wonderful people, who represent science, education, medicine and business as well as the creative circles of their countries. They happily share their ideas and best practice in their professional fields. These ideas are supported by investment funds, private investors and have the potential to become specific business projects. The Editorial Board of the Socrates Almanac - the official publication of the EBA – have decided to create a platform, not only for its main audience- scientists and researchers - but also for authors of innovations, inventions and technologies; thus arose the project ‘Almanac "Innovative jump into the future"’, which we present to our readers today.

EBA World John W.A. Netting Director General Europe Business Assembly Dear colleagues, partners and friends! Let me once again welcome you to the pages of the Socrates Almanac- the official fifth publication of the Europe Business Assembly. I am happy to inform everybody that EBA continues to improve and develop. Thanks to close cooperation with the best thinkers from different countries and public associations, we have initiated new long-term projects; primarily the Oxford Academic Union and The Prime Business Destination. At the same time our time tested ongoing programmes: the organization of international forums and conferences; publishing projects; international ratings and professional competitions; and honoring the leaders of Modern Age, are still going strong. For the last six months many of you have been taking part in the representative summits of the Europe Business Assembly in Oxford, Vienna and London, as well as in many regional forums, business meetings and conferences, which are all held under the auspices of our organization. In all our endeavors, we have always felt your support and, in turn, tried to do everything possible to improve the success of your business by bringing it to the attention of interesting investors and partners. Together, we promote the efforts of scientists, doctors, industrialists and entrepreneur from around the world in order to solve global problems of humanity by participating in charitable and social programs. Today I would like to invite you to the world of EBA 2015, the world of success, recognition and excellence Socrates Almanac ‘Innovative Jump into the Future’ 7

EBA World It is incredible to realize that EBA has been in existence now for 15 years. Who of us would ever have imagined that, in those early days, we would have grown as strongly and as globally as we have done? Our growth, and the direction of that growth, has been completely determined by the interests of those who have participated in our events over the years. Who would have thought, for instance, that an initial conference held in 2004 specifically for university rectors would have developed into a dedicated division of EBA attracting membership from a multitude of international university leaders? Or that an early focus on health and wellness tourism would have grown into an annual event based in the Alpine regions of either Montreux in Switzerland, Stressa in Italy or the Mediterranean jewel of Malta? Along the way we have also occupied some truly prestigious locations such as the Lividia Palace at Yalta, in the very rooms that Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill debated the future of Europe during their 1945 conference. Equally awe inspiring was an event held at Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow, or, on a regular annual basis, our spring conferences held in the former London palace of the Duke of Wellington, hero of the battle against Napoleon at Waterloo. Of course, we cannot forget the city of our birth, Oxford, a city in which we have occupied many prestigious buildings, including the Town Hall, St. John’s College, and the Oxford Union debating hall. From small beginnings we have grown into a multi dimensional organisation with specialist focuses in economic issues, education, and leadership development. Our congregation has grown from one initially drawn from within central and east European countries to one that now represents the whole world, each of our events include representatives from more than 40 countries. What, you may ask, of the future? Well, that, we assume, will follow a pattern similar to the past in that it will be dictated by our members and attendees and the nature of their particular interests. One thing is certain, however, in following our members’ interests we will also be following them to their particular parts of the world and holding events in ever more exotic locations. I am looking forward to seeing you there – wherever “there” may be! Socrates Almanac ‘Innovative Jump into the Future’ 9
