well done st the mufti day on friday 1 april raised $481.40 for the music room public health message for christchurch school students who are sick need to stay at home and be encouraged to visit the doctors particularly if they are exhibiting signs of gastroenteritis i.e diarrhoea and vomiting boil all drinking water bringing water to the boil is sufficient to kill bugs or add 1 teaspoon of household bleach per 10 litres of water and leave for 30 minutes ensure water used in food preparation is bottled boiled or treated wash hands with soap or use hand sanitiser often particularly after going to the toilet and before and after eating keep away from silt dust and all open water treat all silt rivers ponds puddles or other surface water as contaminated if people have to work with silt they should wear waterproof gloves gumboots and a dust mask shower or wash immediately afterwards and wash clothes separately water thank you to everyone as you continue to provide your child with enough water for the day and continuing to boil it at the community meeting on friday night they also emphasized the need to use boiled water when brushing your teeth they suggested having a drinking bottle of boiled water in the bathroom for everyone in the household to use drinking fountains we have turned off all of our drinking fountains that can be isolated unfortunately some of our new ones can not be turned off so we have covered them to ensure students do not have access to the water welcome to new students we welcome these students who have started at oaklands since our last newsletter:nicholas keenan sophie lewis amelia scott taylajade tiplady-prasad seth whale in rm 20 we welcome the return of wariesha khan in rm 23 dates for international competitions and assessment for schools icas exams for 2011 yrs 4-8 the icas are an assessment programme delivered to over 20 countries and they provide parents and school with comprehensive reports about how your child has done in comparison to students from new zealand and australasia a notice will go out for each exam closer to the date th computer skills ­ tuesday 24 may cost $7.50 th science ­ wednesday 8 june cost $7.50 st spelling ­ tuesday 21 june $9.50 st writing ­ tuesday 21 june cost $17.50 nd english ­ tuesday 2 august cost $7.50 th mathematics ­ tuesday 16 august cost $7.50 sporting success at oaklands school we love to celebrate sporting excellence here at oaklands school and we are aware that there are many students achieving great things outside of our school sports programme if your child has achieved in sports outside of school please let us know by emailing mr brown on bryan.brown@oaklands.school.nz public health nurse we are pleased to advise our school community our new public health nurse is liz hampton parents are welcome to contact her if they have any health concerns or questions about their children liz can be contacted on 383 6877 ext 99615 school information please be aware you can get up to date information on school trips sports etc by phoning the school on 322 8735 and pressing the number 3 option sun hats a reminder that sun hats are compulsory in terms 4 and 1 thank you for all your efforts in ensuring that your children have their sun hats please make sure they are named school gate for the safety of your children we are closing the school gates before and after school if you have a disability or need to collect an injured child please ask the duty teacher at the gate to let you through school banking thursday is banking day at oaklands school the drop off box is in the office term 1 promotion each week a deposit is made through the asb school banking programme each child is automatically in the draw to win 25 prizes of $50 we are now banking with asb and the new bank account number is 123153 0098196 00 absentees we are now required to make daily contact for all absences unless previously advised to the teacher or school office you can phone these absences into 322 8735 picking the 2 option and leaving your child s name room number and a brief explanation for their absences alternately parents who only have cell phones can text absences to the school s cell phone 021 126 3058 school uniform suppliers as part of the board of trustees review of the school uniform we have another supplier for the trousers if you are wanting a different style and material the supplier is mainland uniforms 511 wairakei road phone 360 3037 donations the school donation for 2011 is again $80.00 per family per or $20.00 per term a reminder that this is now due a big thank you to the 210 families who have paid their donation school canteen lunches the canteen is open wednesdays and fridays a reminder that if you wish to have this facility it is important that it is supported more over
