Do you know what the gospel is? ... brethren, I DECLARE TO YOU THE GOSPEL which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, By which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that (1) CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS according to the Scriptures, And that (2) HE WAS BURIED, and that (3) HE ROSE AGAIN THE THIRD DAY according to the Scriptures ... (1 Cor 15:1-4) Do you know how the gospel can be received? “REPENT, and LET EVERY ONE OF YOU BE BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS; and YOU SHALL RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.” (Acts 2:38) Albert L. Oberdorfer (Mag.phil.) is an Austrian-born teacher who currently teaches English at Chiang Mai University. Albert’s beloved wife, Associate Professor Dr. Peninnah Oberdorfer (M.D., Ph.D.) is a pediatrician and lecturer in pediatric infectious diseases at the same university.

THANK YOU Thank you my darling for your faithful love and companionship. Thank you Papa Leif for taking us under your wings in our journey of learning how to love. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity (love), I am nothing. ―1 Cor 13:2

The Wonder of the Cross 1 Oh, precious sight, my Savior stands Dying for me with outstretched hands Oh, precious sight, I love to gaze Remembering salvation's day Remembering salvation's day Though my eyes linger on this scene May passing time and years not steal The power with which it impacts me The freshness of it's mystery The freshness of it's mystery May I never lose the wonder The wonder of the cross May I see it like the first time Standing as a sinner lost Undone by mercy and left speechless Watching wide eyed at the cost May I never lose the wonder The wonder of the cross Behold the God man crucified The perfect sinless sacrifice 1 Lyrics by Bethany Dillon and Matt Hammitt

PREFACE he Kingdom of God is God’s rule and reign. Wherever the Kingdom of God is manifested, it reveals God’s glorious character and His matchless attribute. John, a disciples of Jesus knew God intimately. Describing what God and people who know Him are like, John said He that loveth not knoweth not God; for GOD IS LOVE. ―1 Jn 4:8 T Paul then tells us what God’s love is like concrete terms in this marvelous thirteenth chapter of Corinthians. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,   Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;   Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

2 WHAT IS THE GOSPEL AND HOW CAN IT BE RECEIVED? Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.  Charity never faileth ... ―1 Cor 13:4-8 This is what God is truly like. Before Jesus came, people were confused about the true nature of God. So Jesus said to them, “He that hath seen me, hath seen the Father” (Jn 14:9). In other words, Jesus said, “If you want to know what the Father is like, look at me. I am exactly like the Father.” Now Jesus came to restore fallen humanity back to this Father that He came to reveal. He came to bring them into His Father’s house. People can can experience the Kingdom of God without having come to the Father. But the Father wants more than that. He wants humanity to come home. He wants sons and daughters. Yet because of what Adam did, we can’t just walk in to the Kingdom of God. The glorious gospel of Jesus Christ is the key to the Kingdom of God. We can enter the Kingdom of God only one way. We can’t just walk right in. The only way to get into the

PREFACE 3 Kingdom of God is to be birthed into it (born again) through the gospel. Paul said to the Corinthians, “in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel” (1 Cor 4:15). Paul could say that because it was he who brought them to Christ through the gospel. Paul later wrote a letter to them to remind them what the gospel is. He said, ... brethren, I declare to you THE GOSPEL which I PREACHED to you, which also YOU RECEIVED and in which you stand, BY WHICH ALSO YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you— unless you BELIEVED in vain. ―1 Cor 15:1-2 So Paul said to the Corinthians, • I preached this gospel to you, • You believed and received it. • By it you are saved, if you hold fast to that word that I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.
