Through our exciting curriculum we encourage a ‘thirst for knowledge’ and a love of learning Throughout the school we want our children to enjoy a wide range of experiences which bring the curriculum to life and make learning fun. Their early years are crucial to a child’s development and our Foundation Stage and Key Stage One provision enables pupils to get their school careers off to a flying start. We believe that children learn best when they are actively engaged in their own learning. To this end we have arranged for the subjects of the National Curriculum to be taught in a thematic cross-curricular manner so that learning from one subject can be applied into another. Projects usually begin with a creative ‘hook’ to capture the children’s interest followed by engaging activities based on real life experiences. We find that children are motivated by this creative delivery. ‘A curriculum characterised by vitality, purpose and rich first hand experiences’ L A School Improvement Professional June 2014. ‘Pleased with continuing and growing relationship between the church and school’ Parent ‘Every event fabulous, enjoyable, amusing and well organised’ Parent 4

Classrooms full of achievers We aim to find the uniqueness of every child by getting to know them well. How do they learn best? What motivates them? What do they find challenging? Using all that knowledge we then create activities which suit their learning styles and needs. Mix this with large doses of encouragement and enthusiastic staff and Mytham children learn really well! If a child is finding their work challenging… we nurture and support them. If a child is exceeding… we challenge and stretch them. ‘Mytham staff are able to pick up on a child’s individual needs and help them to work to the best of their abilities, providing appropriate support where needed’ Y3 parent Parents as Partners We strive to have excellent communication with parents, as we strongly believe that working with you is one of the keys to our success. Parents can expect bi-annual Parent Consultations as well as a detailed annual report. Parents can discuss their child’s progress at any time during the year by making an appointment with the class teacher or member of the Senior Leadership Team. ‘Both our children have been extremely happy at Mytham It is a great school where the staff nurture the children’ Y6 parent 6

High standards of teaching and learning In July 2014 100% of our teaching was judged to be good or better by the Senior Leadership Team. Staff at Mytham have to work hard! Staff are well supported by Senior Leaders who themselves are outstanding teachers with outstanding abilities to develop teams and bring about improvements. Lessons are observed frequently and rigorous feedback given. After each monitoring round feedback is given with new targets. There are high expectations both in terms of pupil progress but also commitment to the school. The progress of students is carefully monitored throughout the academic year. Staff teams hold regular Pupil Progress meetings where every child is discussed and strategies are evolved to ensure that students are ‘on track’. No child slips through the net and this is reflected in our results. Staff vacancies are rare at Mytham but when they become available we are inundated with applications. ‘Mytham… where children come first!’ This principle underpins everything we do at Mytham. Every choice we make, whether it be curriculum, recruitment or resourcing begins with the question ‘How will this benefit our pupils?’ At Mytham we value the children’s opinions. Our ‘Young Leaders’ confidently consult with their peers about current initiatives. Young Leaders also bring their enthusiasm to meetings as well as an abundance of ideas of how we can improve the school. Pastoral support is a strength of the school. Parents frequently comment that we go ‘above and beyond’ for their child and that is the feedback that we value the most. If a child needs additional support either with their learning, behaviour or emotionally then our skilled staff find ways to help them. Safeguarding is a priority and we have strict protocols in place to ensure that we keep children safe in all ways. We teach children about Children’s Rights throughout the curriculum. Alongside this we also teach that if we have a right we also have a responsibility towards others. This principle permeates our ‘Positive Behaviour’ policy. Children are encouraged to make the right choices and are rewarded for doing so. 9
