MADE IN ICELAND JS Watch Company Reykjavik is a small Icelandic watch manufacturer whose exceptional timepieces promise to put the country on the map for something other than hot springs, Bjork and disruptive volcanoes. Icelandic Ingenuity The collaboration of a watchmaker, collector and designer has produced the JS Watch co. Reykjavik, one of the world’s smallest manufacturers of stylish, quality watches. Is JS Watch co. Reykjavik, from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, one of the watch industries best kept secret? All the watches are designed and assembled by hand in Iceland. Only highest quality movements and materials from Germany and Swiss are used to produce the watches and every single detail has been given the time needed for perfection. The quantity of watches produced is limited, giving them an exclusive and truly personal feel. Currently the watches are being worn on many celebrity wrists such as Viggo Mortensen, Quentin Tarantino, Yoko Ono and his holiness 14th Dalai Lama to name just a few.

HK Golfer Mailbag Time to Crack Down on Slow Play I have con f l ic t i n g fe el i n g s fol low i n g Pad ra i g Harrington’s win at t he Honda Classic in early March, which was his f irst victor y on t he PGA Tour for many years. Harrington, who won the 20 03 Hong Kong Open as wel l as t hree major championships, seems to be a popular fellow with his peers and fans alike; he has a cheery demeanour and is an engaging personality. But – and here’s my problem with the otherwise likeable Irishman – he is one of the slowest players around and watching him play is almost painful, such is the amount of time he takes to hit a shot. I am sure I wasn’t alone in yelling at the television: “Just get on with it!” The message that professional touring golfers who play slowly send out to youngsters is that it’s OK to take six hours to complete a round, that it is fine to look at a putt from 360 different angles before even thinking about addressing the ball. The effect slow play has on young players is one thing; the effect slow play has on golf ’s attractiveness as a viewing spectacle is another. Of course not all pros are slow. Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler are two who “just get on with it” and are great to watch. They are, in many ways, ideal role models. But surely the time has come for the Tours around the world to act. On the PGA Tour, there is a fine structure in place for slow-play issues, based on the number of warnings a player gets. But it has been said many times, nothing will really change unless players get penalised strokes for their slowness. As it currently stands, once a group is out of position, as deemed by the rules official, any slow time results in a one-stroke penalty. Players are given 60 seconds to hit if they are first and 40 seconds if they are playing second. While it might throw them out of their rhythm, the fear of a penalty will clearly get them moving. Taking his time: Harrington at the Honda Classic Most of the time, however, it never comes to that. The only effective way to get them playing faster is to make the threat of stroke penalties real. Tournaments c a n b e won or lo st i n suc h i n st a nc e s , a nd t he discussion over such penalties would serve as a very real threat. Thomas Hwang Kowloon Tong Doral Distraction With reference to Rory McIlroy’s club toss at Donald Trump’s Doral during the WGC event recently: my father taught me a long, long time ago that regardless of how important we feel we are, don’t ever do anything during a game that will distract others in the group. In other words, if you’re having a bad day on the course, make sure you don’t let yourself get in the way of the others. That is called respect. Pay it, don’t try and get it. If you’re going to shoot 80, do it with dignity. Bruce Monroe Via email HK Golfer on Android We’re delighted to announce that HK Golfer can now be downloaded on all Android and Apple devices. | DIVOTS Clarke Considering Ryder Cup Role for Steven Gerrard Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke says he would consider asking Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard to speak to the European side ahead of their bid for an unprecedented fourth straight victory at Hazeltine. Clarke's predecessor Paul McGinley arranged for former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson to address his team at Gleneagles last year, with the home side going on to claim a fivepoint win. And Liverpool fan Clarke would not rule out the possibility of using Gerrard in the same way. "LA is not that close to Minnesota, so we will see," Clarke joked in reference to Gerrard's upcoming move to Los Angeles Galaxy. "Paul (McGinley) obviously got a lot of help and advice from a lot of different people who have been in that position of managing people and looking after people, and I will be the same. "There are a few people that I am thinking about. We'll see. He (Gerrard) is a real legend. If I were to do something like that, he would be someone I would consider." McGinley famously left no stone unturned in his pursuit of victory at Gleneagles, even making sure the fish in the team room were of European colours. "I might have to find blue and yellow fish in America as well," Clarke added. "I suffer a bit from OCD as well so I'm sure I'll be doing the same sort of thing.” AFP Available to buy on the HK Golfer Store at hkgolfer.com Enquires to blunt@hkgolfer.com 14 HK GOLFER・APR 2015 HKGOLFER.COM
