Dear Friends: In this Edition of The Voice in the Wilderness we begin teaching on our 2015 Theme “Upon this ROCK”. It is critical in this age of false teaching, "rock and roll style church music" and a host of worldly trends to return to THE ROCK of TRUTH, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST for our authority. Of course the next question would be “which Bible?" Sadly I have already been in churches where multiple Bible versions are being used. In one Bible study class there was obvious confusion due to the reading of different versions. Keep in mind there is a major serious difference in "critical text/modern Bible proponents" from those of us who believe God promised and preserved His Word for English speaking people in the KJB. The "critical text scholars" believe their sources have errorstheir Bible has errors. Thus the science of "textual criticism" must fix the errors and produce one more, 100’s more Bible versions in attempts to get it right. That of course destroys absolute authority for them. Pastors and churches then have their "private interpretation" now for sin and righteousness. They not only have a new and improved version of the Bible but a new and improved version of Jesus. Worship, music, church, marriage, family, dress, homosexuality, right and wrong are now subject to the modern version not the Absolute Authority of God’s Word. The source of the KJB is pure and preserved. The source is not corrupt and fixed. The source is not compiled and eclectic. The source is not Catholic in preservation. The Masoretic (OT) and Textus Receptus (NT), source of the KJB was preserved just as God promised. We do not have a Corrupt, Compiled, Catholic Bible that is constantly being changed by men that believe the Bible is full of errors. Sadly the so called scholars of modern Bible versions do not believe in the inspired, infallible, preserved word of God. And with their "big money printing presses" they continue to crank out version after version to the confusion of so many dupped by the ever changing definition of truth. Praise The Lord we have the preserved Word of God for this generation. May our Lord help us see the Broken Hedge that poses eminent danger to our homes and churches that we stand up and stand in the gap. Jesus is indeed worthy of our separation from this world and our sacrifice to make a difference in these last days. Thank you for standing with us in this great endeavor. Sermon OF THE MONTH B roken H edge & C hinked A rmour • The Broken Hedge • The Broken Armour • The Broken Promise Dear Pastor Friend, (The Voice in the Wilderness has said much over six decades about the grievous departure by some from sound Biblical teaching. The Voice in the Wilderness 2015 theme is “Upon this ROCK” emphasizing Christ and the Truth upon which He has founded His Church. So are churches and families stronger due to the changes occurring in ministries? Could past church standards be outdated? Think about these things.) You may find this hard to believe, but it is the truth. Of all things, at a funeral home visitation a preacher friend I had not seen for thirty years said in our brief reunion that he and his dear wife were taking dance lessons. Our conversation had nothing to do with dance, but he seemed compelled to tell me about their wonderful experience and liberation. There is more to this abbreviated and grievous encounter, but I’ll say this - Their dance class membership was totally out of character for the preacher I once knew. The circle of churches this now, pirouette preacher had served in and fellowshipped with had been fundamental, at least conservative, in standards and separation. Sadly, that just scratches the surface in examples of pastors and preachers that have abandoned their long held convictions on many worldly activities such as dance, 4•The Voice in the Wilderness - Winter 2015 Quarterly Edition

social drinking, Hollywood theater attendance, mixed swimming at the beach and pools, tattoos and body piercing, just for a start. Now a list of do’s and don’ts will neither save your soul nor makes a Holy life. But be very clear on this, 1John 2:15-17 says, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” Just a few years ago these preachers were in churches where the leadership demonstrated a Biblical distinctive on the outside and in their attitudes. Their choir was filled with men and women that not only dressed the part, sounded the part, but also reflected the presence of God’s sweet Holy Spirit in their music ministry. The ushers and greeters wore coats and ties while Sunday School teachers were dressed in a modest fashion that gave visitors an unquestionable testimony that these church people respected and reverenced the One they served. As a matter of fact, those visitors regularly got saved, were baptized and soon thought Jesus was worthy of their dedication and separation. There was an apparent enthusiasm about church attendance, Bible study, soul winning, and simply living a life for Jesus that honoured Him and influenced others to be Christ-like as well. There is a whole lot right about that! Sadly, these preachers often did not have the backbone to say Hedge and Chinked Armour More on @TheVoice_NC or visit www.thevoiceinthewilderness.org •5 Broken

“no” to prodigal sons and daughters, possibly wives. A deacon wanted their divorced adult child re-married. After all, it was not their fault and they deserve to be happy. Business owners in the church began to sell alcoholic beverages. The Bible College gets soft on Bible versions, once prohibited dress fashions, and contemporary styles of music. On and on and down and down the spiral of disintegrating Bible teaching: Big name ministries, denominations, the apparently successful yet un-separated start to influence pastors and people. There is the false notion that holiness is legalism, rules are bad, and it takes a little contemporary, worldly, Hollywood, rock-and-roll to win them today. Authority and rules are out, “Let it go,” and live it up for Jesus, He wants us to party at church is in. Get rid of those coats and ties, trash the ancient hymnal, put on your Hawaii shirt, let your hair down, rev up the amps, bring in the drums, and we now have a good old boy Jesus. Zoomba, dance classes, alcohol socially is ok, the church campus is “build it and they will come,” along with baby showers for outof-wedlock moms, and even sodomy is ok if you don’t practice, but that is subject to change. We’ve not even mentioned the big screen super bowl Sunday and the sports god. “What! Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). “Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; and in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God” (Philippians 1:27-28). “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into 6•The Voice in the Wilderness - Winter 2015 Quarterly Edition

lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ” (Jude3 and 4). The Bible says much about separation from the world and the distinctiveness of God’s people. Certainly as the world’s perversion increases the difference that Christ and His Word makes in the believers life should be even more apparent. However, some seem to think the opposite. There is a precious couple that are business owners in a church where I have preached often. They told my wife and me that numerous older couples that frequent their business are living together outside of marriage. They said these men and women profess Certainly as the to be Christians and claim there is world’s perversion nothing wrong with their lifestyle. increases the By the way, these men and women are church members and in their difference that Christ and His Word makes sixties, seventies, and older. Is that just our modern sophisticated culture in the believers life indicative of the changing times or is should be even more that sin as the Bible says, said in the apparent. However, past and will always say? Would you consider with me the following? some seem to think the opposite. The Broken Hedge – “Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the Lord” (Ezekiel 13:5). “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none” (Ezekiel 22:30). There is a broken hedge and we have endangered our families, church and nation. Will any one stand in the gap and make up the hedge? God’s Word does not change and to violate His Truth brings Divine judgment. time to read Ephesians 6:10-19. It is impossible to stand against the wiles of the devil without putting on the whole armour of God. With chinks in the armour we are exposed to the attacks of Satan. The Broken Promise – “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10: 9 & 13). Okay, just think about it, if you will. When the lost soul gets saved, whom does he call upon? It’s obvious. The Bible tells us we call upon the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ is the One who saves us. We do not save ourselves by our good works, or our own righteousness. The Lord Jesus Christ saves us. So if we call upon the Lord Jesus Christ and He saves us, does that not mean He is Lord? Therefore we have given Him our life and acknowledge Him as Lord of all. Would it not be sin and the ultimate Broken Promise to say Lord save me, but my life and body are mine to do as I please--Absolutely not. Maybe there is an infestation of goats, tares and wolves in sheep’s clothing. “One of the most important documents a man ever signs is his Will. I can tell better what a man had in his heart by reading his Will than I can by reading his obituary. His obituary tells the world what his friends thought of him; his Will reveals what he had in his heart.” - A. M. Vollmer For as (a man) thinketh in his heart, so is he- Proverbs 23:7. Out of (the heart) are the issues of life - Proverbs 4:23. News Bits FROM HERE AND THERE Arafat’s Widow says – Once Yasser Arafat said, “We shall never stop until we can go back home and Israel is destroyed…. The goal of our struggle is the end of Israel, and there can be no compromises or mediations….We don’t want peace we want victory. Peace for us means Israel’s destruction and nothing else.” On the tenth anniversary, November 2014 of her husband’s death, Mrs. Arafat said, “Hamas has taken the people in the Gaza Strip as hostages. When I see what is happening in Gaza, its just genocide. This generation grew up with violence, without education, with only a hope of emigrating. I hope that Hamas will finally understand that it should work towards peace negotiations. They said my husband was an obstacle to peace. We saw what happened to peace after his death.” Palestinian leaders are saying they won't accept a peace deal that doesn’t give them control of half the city, including the Old City and Temple Mount. Israel My Glory 1/15 California needs Israel – California did not ask Obama for help. Gover nor Jer r y Brown has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to receive help from Israel. Israel is the worlds acknowledge expert on irrigation and water use. After three years of severe drought costing California’s economy at least $2.2 billion and ruined 500,000 acres of once rich productive farmland, California is looking to Israel for help in solving their irrigation problem. israeltoday.co.il P l a n n e d Pa r e n t h o o d – Planned Parenthood reports they did 327,653 abortions in 2013, an increase from 2012. In 2013 abortions made up 94% of Planned Parenthood’s pregnancy services. For every adoption referral Planned Parenthood performed 174 abortions. In the fiscal year of 2013-2014 Planned Parenthood received more than $1.4 million per day in the form of government grants, contracts and Medicaid reimbursements. 41% of Planned Parenthood’s overall revenue. Planned Parenthood reported more than $127 million in excess revenue and more than $1.4 billion in net assets. LifeNews.com America and Israel – Do you remember when some prophecy guru’s said Henry Kissinger was the anti-christ? Some may take his thoughts on Israel with a grain of salt. The now 91-year old Kissinger said it would be a mistake right now for Israel to pursue peace with the Palestinians. The United States must realize Israel has been, “a representative of the principles in which America believes. It is the one country on whose geopolitical support America can always count,” reported The Algemeiner. Kissinger continued to say America must keep in mind, “what it will defend or seek to achieve even if it has to do so alone….The survival of Israel…is one of those principles that we will pursue even if we have to do so alone.” (via Friends of Israel) Where is their moral compass? – There are more sexual assaults on college and university campuses [2015] because there is more sexual activity on college and university campuses. That is a statement made from a secular source and study of this problem More on on college campuses not by Bible preachers. Guess what the solution these educators, parents, and violated females have come up with? Congress needs to pass more laws. That is their solution. Yet the students want fraternities and sororities and campus parties rule free and free booze. When he is drunk and she is drunk and somebody says “no”, who will be accountable and face the consequences? This student party-crowd wants “no rules” but wants Congress to pass more laws. Quite frankly, one of the most fearful and stupid things for a parent today to do is send their child off to a government run school. Government-run schools are extremely dangerous places both physically, mentally, and spiritually. If colleges and universities teach evolution and atheism, where do they get a moral compass? Who is deciding what is right and wrong? If we reject God’s Word and absolute authority in our lives, to whose authority do we live by? Thus, the confusion of “no rules” and more laws. @TheVoice_NC or visit www.thevoiceinthewilderness.org •11

SOME CHURCHES I HAVE KNOWN It has been my privilege to preach and fellowship in churches across America and in numerous countries where our Lord is doing a mighty work. This is an article we printed in 2004 after a missions’ trip to India. I was reminded of each congregations uniqueness, yet the same faith in our One True and Living Saviour Jesus Christ. I trust this will be an encouragement to some of our dear pastors and friends serving in the local church. What a joy to fellowship with and preach to hundreds of precious people in the churches of India. The singing was enthusiastic, the preaching received with welcomed hearts, and as always, the hospitality wonderful. American churches stand to learn some much needed lessons from the churches in India, Venezuela, Mexico, and many countries we often call the “mission field.” Maybe we are the student and they are the teacher. The multitude of smiling faces and enthusiastic handshakes were refreshing. Talk about a singing church! Wow! These folk lifted heart and voice in praise to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The children as well as young people radiated with such a beautiful spirit. The Lord has richly blessed Terry and me with churches and preacher friends that have been such an encouragement to our ministry. From Maine to Florida, North Carolina to California, Texas to Alaska, Canada to South America and around the globe to India, it has been my privilege to become acquainted with some wonderful local churches. Whether preaching or just a visitor, I have always been attentive to the uniqueness each ministry offered. 12•The Voice in the Wilderness - Winter 2015 Quarterly Edition

It is not my purpose here to extrapolate the negative. Pastor—lay person, you just might glean a bit of good to take along to church with you next Lord’s Day. Sophie Muller wrote in her book Jungle Methods – “Some people say that it cramps the Holy Spirit to have everything written down in order for the services, but I know that it really cramps the devil.” I’m thinking of a church where I’ve preached several meetings. Hard work, prayers, and organization have been hallmarks of these meetings, as has the apparent sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. Souls were saved, and God’s people expressed in a spirited and reverent fashion the Lord’s work in their midst. I agree with Sister Sophie. Often, the lack of order is an excuse for laziness and an opportunity for the devil. One precious congregation forever touched my life. Halfway around the world in Calcutta when Howrah folk baptize, they truly praise the Lord. As each candidate rises from beneath the waters, the Pastor pronounces a powerful “Hallelujah.” A second time and finally a third, the Pastor resoundingly declares a “Hallelujah” as the congregation each time echoes quite enthusiastically. BIG CHURCH/LITTLE CHURCH What is a small church and what is a big church? Personally, I think a big church is one doing the will of God. At the Camp Meeting, Pastor “A” thought Pastor “B” had a big church with a congregation of 300, while Pastor “B” thought Pastor “C” had the big church who averaged almost a thousand in Sunday School. I even heard it said, “Well, I don’t like those big churches – don’t know anybody and they don’t know me.” Let me share my experiences in two churches that run about 2,000. The three of us (my wife, daughter, and myself) walked into this huge auditorium thinking, “No one will even shake our hands.” Were we surprised?!! We had barely taken our seat when a brother approached our pew, introduced himself, shook our hands, and warmly welcomed my family. I later found out that every pew was divided into sections and a member knew when a visitor sat in his/ her section. That individual diligently greeted newcomers, providing information about Sunday school, church, restrooms, etc. Incredible! More on @TheVoice_NC or visit www.thevoiceinthewilderness.org •13

DO YOU CARE – DO YOU WANT TO REACH PEOPLE? I’ve also been in a church where I could count the adults on my fingers and toes…yet not a handshake or howdy-do. To my amazement, the Pastor of one “BIG” church personally greets and shakes the hand of every visitor following the service. Every visitor is asked to stop in the Welcome Center, a room conveniently located at the auditorium exit, to meet the Pastor and his wife. Now, how about that! Do you ever get the impression that some churches just don’t want to grow? Well, it wasn’t true of these folk. If you ever darkened their door, that following week you will receive a letter in the mail, a followup visit, and a phone call. Absentee members get the same treatment. Too pushy you say. I kind of thought it was because they CARED. DRESS THE PART – LIVE THE PART There was no shortage of full-length mirrors at this church. They were the nicest looking bunch, for sure. Just imagine – the ushers all wore coats and ties. Now that was a novel idea. Try this on for size: Each Sunday morning they go through the entire congregation and ask how many chapters in the Bible did you read that week. Oh, but Brother Ronnie, that’s embarrassing. Why? - Because you did not read any? I’ll have you know there are strong, Bible-preaching, soul winning, separated local churches all around this globe. Can you believe it? I was even in a service where they played the organ and the piano and sang the old faithful hymns. Not a tape, CD, or watered-down ditty in the house! They sang with spirit. No dead, dry funeral dirge. “Victory in Jesus” had victory. “Power in the Blood” had power, and “When We All Get to Heaven” made you want to go there. Then, my – the preaching! He had something to say, and I believe God said it to him first. Isn’t it great to have been in the House of the Lord! DECENTLY AND IN ORDER The apostle Paul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit has taught the church that, “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints”. In no way do we want to organize God out of our worship services or church order. However, we do not through the lack of organization want to allow the devil an opportunity. Strict formality can certainly quench the Spirit and prevent the presence of the Lord moving in His people. Yet, the lack of thought and preparation can be due simply to slothfulness. The pastor is the worship leader and with prayer and forethought, he can assure the peace and order that God has intended in the church, as well as the liberty needed for the Holy Spirit to move in the heart of God’s people. The following calendar is simply a template that can give direction for various opportunities the church has during the year to reach the lost, as well as edify the saint. This is a month-by-month list of suggestions, not exhaustive, that can be considered in planning the church’s yearly calendar. Often missionaries, guest evangelists, as well as members of the congregation have advanced commitments that could hinder the church schedule. So with careful planning, the pastor is able to afford his congregation some very special blessings throughout the year that may not otherwise be available. We will just list month-bymonth some ideas that I have borrowed from other ministries for your consideration. Keep in mind; some of the preparation may start six to twelve months before the New Year begins. There are so many more ideas but this may be a little bit of help. Pray, Plan and Prepare. Just remember, each occasion on the calendar can be used for the edification of the body and a tool to reach lost souls for whom Christ died. From church to church, there may be varying ideas about special events. None of these suggestions are set in stone. Take note of the following calendar suggestions.
